That’s my new main shell (Nova/Trish). Those two have crazy synergy. I use Task on the end though because…I like Task lol.
I think Trish,Nova is a better order though and I’m switching to that order once i get better with Trish. That order gives you the unblockable setup with Round Harvest super, similar to what RDK uses with his Trish team
I was using Peakaboo with Nova but I am experimenting with using Low Voltage because its a better horizontal assist for Nova than Task H.Shot. It’s good for corner pressure though. And since Nova can carry people to the corner pretty well, its cool. Call that assist in the corner and trust the opponent will be afraid to stand up. Then instant overhead with Nova and you got a combo lol
I play Nova(b), Dante (a) and Ammy (b) for quite a while now, and I am starting to feel the limit of this team. It just doesn’t do enough damage unless you pop them raw with Nova (DHC into Ammy does like no damage and its impossible to go into Dante without losing red life, heck even the air exchange combos sucks) and it really lacks horizontal pressure. It really struggles against team with good and fast beams or run away. The bright side is the lock down is very strong once you get in and the incoming mix up is also very good. It also has extremely powerful team super (Nova, Ammy/ Nova, Dante/ Dante,Ammy with xfactor), but I am not sure if its worth it anymore.
Sometimes when I play against the derpy teams with the Zeros, Mags, Striders and Vergils, I just feel like why do I have to work so hard to get in when they can just mash out a random j.h or buster, or helm breaker or just teleport+beam all over the place with zero regard of thought and still get a random TOD. I am tempted to replace Dante with another character thats not Spencer, Doom, Vergil and Taskmaster, but the remaining characters doesn’t seen to feel the bill and I kind of miss the Jam session extension to my combos:(
Nova/Dante is pretty great man. You can raw tag Dante anywhere pretty easily for unscaled for one, and though people mentioned that it’s difficult to DHC? It’s not. If you’re able to end your combo into Cent Rush M. You can follow that up with Rocket Punch L into Nova Force which will allow a DHC very close to the ground and you’ll be able to connect million dollars after. Which btw is one of the most damaging DHC’s in the game. Not to mention Nova/Dante team super is fucking godlike. You can’t traditionally DHC as easily, but with a modified combo you can DHC anywhere on the screen. I’d actually recommend if anything choosing between Ammy or Dante.
What do you guys think of Nova/Dorm? And who would be a good anchor in that instance since Dormammu doesnt necesarily provide the coverage that Nova needs?
Secondly, how in the world do I combo off of dark hole? I have the timing down, bbut if nova’s combo carries all the way to the corner, i can’t seem to get enough of the hole to extend it.
It’s not the best pairing. The only real positives are that Nova builds bar really fast and really easily for Dorm and DHC’s into Stalking Flare well. That said, Dark Hole does absolutely nothing practical for Nova and thus requires you to have a good neutral assist in the back. I don’t even bother with the assist and use Liberation instead since it’s more consistent for combos, scales less, and is just better when powered up. Obviously Doom in the back with either Plasma Beam (ideal) or Missiles (ideal for Dorm but not Nova) is good, but I think Sentinel might be one of the few assists that really benefits both characters. Not an incredible anchor, but whatever who needs that shit.
edit: Cent Rush M is actually a pretty decent assist for Dorm too, since he can lock down with Flame Carpet while calling the assist for an easy unblockable, and it extends combos pretty decently as well.
Nova Dorm is sleeeeepttttttt on. Nova to Dorm DHC is BROLIC. You dont even need the assist…dont even stress that. Use it to eat projectiles or some shit. Do any Nova combo that ends up in the corner, OTG with Nova Slam, S, j.H xx Super Nova xx Stalking Flare, Teleport above, j.S for hard knockdown, flame carpet OTG with Nova assist, Dark Matter, Dark Hole, Super…Not sure about the damage but the pair is ridiculous. With that said, I would put Doom in the back with Beam.
Stalking Flare, Power of the L, Power of the M, meteor shower, call Cent Rush M assist/Flame Carpet, Dark Matter, Dark Matter xx Dark Hole xx Chaotic Flame
(I’ve only hit this twice in a match and I should be doing your version every time :x)
edit: Just tried doing some Stalking Flare mixups both with hard tags (incoming) and Speed Tackle (neutral), works pretty well. Even if they block Speed Tackle, you’ll recover before the full ball runs out and can go for a high low.
yeah i was just wondering if dark hole assist was really necessary, and I realized today that it isn’t.
their DHCs are OD when put in both ways. If you do the right combo, Dorm carries to the corner also, so a Super Nova (is that the proper name?) DHC is always possible. It’s serious haha it’s just that Dorm’s assist kinda blows and scales
Yeah, Dark Hole is only good for particular characters like Taskmaster and Hulk. I’ve been screwing around with Nova/Dorm/Sent since your post last night and I actually like it more than with Doom in the back.
Yeah i demonstrated similar combos with Nova Doom Dorm but with 3 charges prior to the combo.

Not a Dorm player so I didn’t know you could just do LM charges…good shit…i needa check that out
They work quite well because of the Stalking Flare DHC combo that Dougiie mentioned, they both do great damage, and they both want a horizontal assist. I saw mention of the charge red, charge blue, meteor shower on DHC. This works very well when DHCing from X-23’s Rage Trigger or Firebrands purple OTG fire thing, but doesn’t seem to work very consistently from Hyper Nova. On the other supers they get juggled on the very top of the ball but after Nova’s super they fall onto the ball so the hits get used up a little more quickly, this makes the timing extremely tight. It can work but I don’t think it is very practical.
I play this combo and use Strange as my anchor. He has a strong assist for both Nova and Dorm and provides great DHCs. I’ve tried quite a few characters in the back and Strange is my favorite (but I’m a huge fan of Strange comics, so I’m always trying to squeeze him into teams) but if you don’t go with him I think Akuma, Task, or Hawkeye are all strong in this slot.
…Don’t do it lmao…Spencer Akuma is pretty cool …Nova Akuma is alright I guess but all 3 together…na…
Pros:
-You have Nova Spencer which is okay for damage (I say “okay” because once again I’m spoiled with the luxury of having Taskmaster)
-You have an assist that eats some projectiles and is good with rushdown characters (Akuma)
-Akuma assist is good lockdown which is always a plus for Nova
-Akuma should allow for nice mixups/pickups with tatsu assist
Cons:
-The kind of damage you can REALLY GET with Nova Spencer is limited with Akuma (as far as I know)
-No horizontal coverage which is basically all the Nova players here agree is a MUST
-Glass cannon anchor
-The team doesn’t maximize Nova potential
-Less mixup opportunity
I’m sure a more experienced player can give a better explanation but basically, don’t do it. If you want Akuma assist with Nova (which is no problem at all) you will need a horizontal assist. Something like Nova Drones Tatsu isn’t too much of a bad idea…Drones…are drones…and they extend Nova’s combos nicely. Nova Task Tatsu is cool…Nova Task ALONE is one of the best Nova shells in my opinion because it gives Nova an assist and damage out the ass and when Nova dies, Task has tatsu assist which is pretty good IMO.
Overall, Nova Spencer is really good for damage but the shell is so limiting that you HAVE TO HAVE a horizontal assist for both characters. I play the duo because I know I’m not skillful enough to use the assists that really help Nova like Cold Star, Drones, Jam Session, etc. so my basic logic is “Okay, I’ll just touch you and body your shit and on to the next character”. Nova with Tatsu should be pretty good but like I said earlier, you HAVE TO HAVE a really good horizontal assist…and you will (in my opinion) be doing way more to kill characters but will sacrifice damage for crazy mixup potential.
Assists and characters to replace Spencer:
Doom - Plasma Beam
Hawkeye - Greyhound
Taskmaster - Horizontal arrows
Drones - Drones
Dr. Strange - Bolts of Balthakk
Assists to replace Akuma’s lockdown
Ammy - Cold Star
Dante - Jam Session
Drones - Drones
Frank West - Shopping Cart
…I was just popping in to comment on how good Drones are for Nova, but you already said it for me lol.
I looked into Nova/Akuma for a while. Tatsu does two things that Nova likes (comes out fairly quickly/safely and locks down), but it just doesn’t lock down long enough and it’s not effective from full screen. I agree with dougiie that you’re gonna want an arrow or beam in there, and I think Taskmaster fits the bill perfectly. He’s also really, really good with Tatsu himself so that’s a plus.
Anyway, Nova/Dorm/Sent is the shit. I was getting soooo tired of Dorm/Missiles that Drones make the character feel fresh, allows for more flexible offense and combo extension. And Nova gets so much off them that I’m almost willing to say they’re better than Cold Star… almost.
I don’t know how to use Doom’s beam with Nova on point. I’m used to Spitfire being like Drones so I have time to hit confirm off of it. However, Doom’s beam is a lot different, being faster and causes a tech roll, making it harder for me to confirm. What is the use of Doom’s beams for Nova?
