I do like this. Iâd actually be tempted to pimp this out to people who demand to have Windows, yet have been curious about Linux.
It just seems like the best of both worlds (at least until Wine gets better): Windows software compatibility + the usability of some of the good open source *NIX apps without installing additional tookits. And amazingly, it looks like both GTK and qt look decent in it.
How hard is it on memory usage?
Naturally, I assume Windows viruses are still an issue with this, since it is running Windows, and not Wine? Granted, most of my friends run a decent security setup, and it wonât matter to me, since Iâve been running Linux solely for a while, and have just recently started finding zero use at all for Wine (GGPO may change that), but you have got me curious.
EDIT: I should have caught on to the fact that it was running X11 before I even asked, as thatâs obviously Compiz effects running.

It involves hacking the registry IIRC, I just donât remember what keys and what values.
Someone might actually have an easier method, so Iâll sit this one out. If the registryâs the only way, be very careful. I screwed my Windows up royally doing so.

get a program called tweak ui
you can get it from microsoft
it will delete the recycle bin
everything else you can just stuff in a folder and put it in your docutments which you can access through the start menu.

Thatâs my motivation. That and a few intriguing programs that donât have windows ports. For a general purpose internet box, Iâd be perfectly fine running linux w/wine, but thatâs not really the case for me currently, and I tend to use a lot of niche hardware at times.
Heh, itâs funny you say that, since my pidgin is windows, and i just grabbed a theme for it that matched absolutely perfectly with my windows visual style. But yes, lookswise, itâs absolutely seamless, except for the fonts, and Iâm working on that.
I should screencap my task manager while I have some linux apps running. But, on install, you can give linux a certain amount of ram. My laptop has 1 GB, and I have 384 set for linux currently.
