Vega & Blanka don’t have easy guaranteed ways to land big damage outside A-groove but the good thing I see about this team is that you can turtle the entire match and build a lot of meter in the process (Vega & Blanka outzone a lot of characters in the game, which makes them well suited for that). Vega & Blanka can be very annoying and cause decent damage without meter, which will probably result in Sagat starting off with full meter.
The catch is that you have to have really good footsies and be very patient in order to play this team well (something a lot of players need to work on IMO, myself included).
Nuki uses N-Akuma, Chun, Sagat; Togawa uses N-Iori, Ken, Sagat; I’ve seen Buktooth using N-Iori, Chun, Hibiki several times; however I’ve only seen one Japanese player using N-Iori, Chun, Sagat but I can’t remember his name.
I’ve heard of several people who said they use that team in casuals but aside from that one Jap player and the Nuki/Togawa/Buktooth team variations I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody use that team in competitive play.
RCs & low jumps help Mai’s game a lot. No offense but it would be foolish to play Mai without using those things.
If you like playing C-groove you definitely should try stuff out for your characters in training mode, RCs, lvl 2 cancels, etc. That will help your game a lot.
Alright, I’ll try them out. Quick question, as I cannot remember off the top of my head. Does C Groove have Low Jump? Or which Groove is that that has it (I know N-Groove does, since I used Low Jump a lot with Mai there…the only time I ever use it…)?
I like C-Yun. If I could RC consistantly (mainly just grab and palm) I’d honestly consider switching to C groove. Yun has crap vitality though. I remember nearly perfecting K Raiden, then got hit by cross up jab jab xx double punch. Breath super. Dead.
I like C/A rolento. he can bait random super/activate,run away all day, build meter fast, godly poke strings, easy CC/link super and more. one of my favorite ! what are rolento’s bad matchups anyway ??
and why is everyone posting what they like on “cvs2 rant” thread WTF ??
Vega, Sagat, Vega, Blanka (not as bad), Vega, Cammy, Vega.
That’s just the top tier, I believe. His other top tier matchups aren’t as bad. I wouldn’t call s.jab x N a godly poke string, but it is annoying. His meter building is good. I wouldn’t say s.jab, low forward xx trip wire is an easy link…1 frame? no thx. CH is a different story.
Oh i forgot to mention, Vega’s a bad match for him too.
edit: i actually remember reading a long while back that Vega wasn’t a very hard matchup for Rolento. I’d say that’s a bit of bullshit, but if i’m wrong, feel free to correct me.
i can’t stand it when people i’m playing mess up a combo that might have killed a character, lose, then tell me that i got lucky. you fucking up doesn’t mean i got lucky, it means you fucked up.
I also hate P and K groovers that act like I got lucky because I had A groove and power of random activation. I dont say care when they are JDing/parrying. just play the damn game !
people that whines about roll super need to STFU ! stop mashing and you probably wont get hit by roll supers.
running (flying) fierce owns him because it goes over his slide and low fierce from the right ranges and he has a tough time anti-airing it. he has to do pre-emptive standing strongs to AA, which morrigan can just walk forward and low RH those. read buk’s N-morrigan FAQ, it’s outdated but i’m sure the basics haven’t really changed.
I’m not an ST player, but enjoyed watching much of the ST finals at Evo West. I think as a spectator, watching ST is very easy to digest. It’s simple, and the match length is just right. CVS matches are too long and it’s harder to “see the story”. What I mean is, when it’s one character (instead of 3-man teams), you can see the player’s reactions to problems more easily from round-to-round. CVS matches can tell a story, of course. I just think it takes more attention to appreciate it. (not that I mind)
