Post your cvs2 rant here!

drop athena for honda, blanka, ken, guile, kim, chun or rolento and you got yourself a team.

^^^ I was thinking the exact thing, but for my team I think I’m gonna swap in Yama and run C- Eagle, Yama, Sagat.

That’s a team I’ve tried out, it’s good. Gives you the ability to switch Eagle and Yama for match-ups, and Eagle’s level 2 cancel does more damage, but getting into Yama’s is brain dead.

Alright, gotcha. Anything else I should know about her match-ups?

C-Vega, Blanka, Sagat
N-Iori, Chun Li, Sagat

Two very solid teams IMO. Any ideas why there aren’t that many C/N players using those two teams?

doesn’t that only apply to a “running” Mai?

…wtf, why? Yeah, she probably works out better WITH run, but it’s not gonna make or break a match if you’re good (unless you picked morrigan).

and about the memory thing: if you need to write stuff down and read it to remember, wouldn’t READING the forums be the same shit? I think so.

I gotta read it more then once

Henry, you know you sit at home and beat it to SRK. Don’t give me that “I only read things once” crap.

man… top hater skills.

you fucking KNOW it.

C-Vega and C-Blanka don’t really have good level 2 cancels, not like Guile, Ken, Chun, or Honda.

Not that many people play N-groove at high level, but Iori/Chun/Sagat is pretty popular for N teams.

I know when i pick a team in C groove, i don’t base it on what their level 2 cancels are. Sure, that’s extra, but I really try to work on who I enjoy playing the most and making sure my team doesn’t have one bad matchup that can ruin them. That may not be the tourney mindset, but even still, that C team is really solid. Doesn’t run into too many bad matches and is well rounded.

Whenever I pick a Groove…which is usually C…I never factor in anything really except the character’s strength and weaknesses…never use RCs, Low Jumps, Lv2cancels, or any of those techincal stuff…I just go with who I like and how well I know them.

Oh, and to add on to that last question I had (about Mai’s match-ups), aside from the top tiers, I need to know about what her best and worst would be for the other tiers as well. It’s nice to know this as well…like…is she on par with Chun-Li, have an advantage, disadvantage, or what? This will help a lot…in both my playing skills (and knowledge) and with my faq…any help is appreciated there!

Yeah, C-Vega/Blanka/Sagat is a solid team, but like my team (team Mago: Honda/Sagat/Blanka) having Sagat as User makes better use of meter than Blanka. Unless of course you are good at hit confirming into Direct Lightning, and not just RC electricity all day.

RCs are a big part of CvS2. While they aren’t more important than having a solid gameplan, they ARE still of some importance. Learn to do them.

Level 2 cancels are almost always worth the extra damage (i actually can’t think of a situation where i don’t do some form of cancel after a level 2, and i mean specials as well, not just burning your lvl1). Learn what your characters have for level 2 cancels and use them. A lot of characters have good level 2 cancels that do almost as much (sometimes just as much or more) as a level 3. It’s worth it to learn and use them effectively, as you’re also saving yourself a lvl1 in the process.

Low jumps, while not in C groove, are also a nice addition to mixup games. If you’re using a groove that has them, learn how they work and use them.

Tetsuye: I usually have Sagat as an anchor, mainly because i’m flat out better with him than I am with C Blanka (and i’m more comfortable with C blanka as a battery or user than an anchor). I’m good at hit confirming into DL, so it doesn’t make much of a difference anyway. I’m not a big C blanka user anyway. The team i’m working on currently is C Eagle-Rolento/Yama/Sagat.

Yama and Sagat have permanent places in my team, and i don’t mind throwing the R2 to different characters depending on matchups. I switch rolento out for Eagle certain matchups, mainly any groove vega (claw). I throughly enjoy Eagle vs Vega match. It’s easy for me and I’ve played against very good Vegas whom my eagle gives a lot of trouble to. Rolento vs Vega is just brutal. I feel like i’m spending the whole match ACing him off of me, then running and building more meter.

Well, IIRC, N-Groove had them, and I used them very briefly whenever I use Mai (and only with her…since back then we used to play a lot of one-on-one games), but now me and my bud are thinking of trying to go pro in this game…so I guess I’ll take you advice and go for the RCs and Level 2 cancels (I KNOW that Mai’s Super Deadly Ninja Bees has a Level 2 cancel, and is a very good one…but I can’t recall if her Crimson Firebird Diver had one…bleh…).

And on the question of RCs…when exactly is the timing on those? First few frames? Middle of Roll? Near the end??? I have a feeling it’s during the first few frames (I think FSGamer told me…just can’t remember off the top of my head…)

between the very 1st frame of the roll and the 3rd frame. think of them like kara cancels in 3rd strike. very fast.

Hm…so…gonna need quite a bit of practice to pull it off correctly…wow…that’s going to be heinous to do, but…I’ll try it anyways…though probably won’t be for 3 more days before I can get back to CVS2…but I’ll do it then anyways.

So, do you know anything about the match-up question that I had posted earlier??

i wish todo had one decent poke to use outside of his waves. forward + mk is too risky (leaves you at -15 on block and if they jump straight up, ggpo) and his sweep has bad recovery (-12 on block). rolling/jumping through a wave is big trouble. i guess i’ll save him for P/K matches only. that’d be cool if any todo players could drop some knowledge (flash, sabin, or even buk with what you’ve seen in japan) because maybe i’m just not using him correctly.

fun fact- todo’s tiger knee guard crush custom in the corner works against the following characters regardless of an alpha counter- blanka, rolento, yamazaki, dhalsim, and chang. blanka’s AC has always sucked, and the rest of the 4 have AC’s that hit low, and since todo is off the ground, they waste their meter AND eat the CC.
