Portland Tournament Interest

jetay’s just a hater

p.s. fuck a soul calibur as well as smash

I have more to say than the following, but just a few quick bullet points

  1. VF5 gets very few entrants, everywhere, even at evolution. The turnout seemed very small at PNW, If Brent can get me the exact numbers, but Im sure it was less than 16

  2. KOFxi as a side tourney, ie smaller pot, unsupported, got at least 16 people, I see room for growth there.

  3. KOF will probably take slightly less time to run than cvs2, and judging by tourney results as more viable characters than any previous kof
I would say the portion of the cast thats viable is at least around 85%. Also SNK deserves a shot.

  4. If we had more stations we could run more games, I want to have more stations so we can run more games.

  5. The time was my biggest concern for brawl. I think with more setups we can get kof 98 to run on time no problem. The only reason Random select took so long last time is because even though I said we were going to start at 12:00, people didn’t show up ontime!! at pnw it seemed most players were on time. So if that is the same we can run at least 1 more game on the number of setups we had last year. If we have more setups maybe we can run 1 additonal game, but brawl does take a long time, so maybe we couldn’t. For now Im thinking its safer to say no.

  6. I don’t want sc4 in. Since we are planning this now sc4 isn’t out, and we don’t know how good bad it will be, the inclusion can be saved for another date.

this kid’s voice summarizes my thoughts on the smash community

lol.

So for now unless I hear some big outcry I think the voice of reason, saying Time is the biggest issue is going to keep smash out.

I still would like to give KOF a try as a main game considering the side tourney had no trouble running along side the other tourney’s at Winter Showdown.

I think KOF 98UM will happen whether you guys make it official or not. 1/3 of the room last time had ALL KOF games with a decent sized tourney for XI which no one seems to like except for non-SRK posting mexicans who are immune to all the bitching that occurs online regarding SNK games. Just an observation. 3S, GG and Cvs2 were the usual powerhouses. VF5 not so much, and barely any for mvc2.

tru nough. So might as well make that KOF big time!

yeah, KOF 98 UM should not just be delegated to “side tourney” status…its THE KOF as of now to definitely be in the officialy lineup

Nobody is hating on you though… looking like a naked mole rat.

Only in Portland.

Bullshit.

Nope, you can thank those random mexicans though because they hold it down.

so we cant make KOF 98 UM a major game in Seattle for what fucking reason again?

This Portland my nig. For Seattle we need more than six people playing it. It is essentially the “SNK problem” where not enough people play. If that changes then it’s all good, but it will prove to be difficult.

If you want to go on a Dark Geese style crusade then go for it. It must suck to go through all that shit and only have 4-7 people enter up at Final Round for SNK games. Real talk.

Here is the point im trying to make. KOF 98 UM deserves to be at EVO 2009. What do games need for it to have a change at being on the EVO lineup? A verifiable legitmative scene with a dedicated player base. Thats what im trying to startup, im not going down the Dark Geese route and vomitting every SNK game that can be played for all to play, im keeping the focus as narrow as possible. KOF 98 UM for EVO 2009.

Tournament annoucement is up! <3

Also KOF 98 will be there! so get everyone you can to register and let the numbers speak for themselves!

Yea Alex people do play fighting games outside of PSU.

if tekken 5 & alpha3 are on the tables, i’m interested.
so will they?

yeah i’m down for SF3

i’m always down obviously, if you guys need any help let me know

Uh. I’m talking the tournaments. As in Winter Showdown and PNW majors. Unless I’m mistaken, VF turnout was tiny at both. If I’m wrong about that, then I apologize.
