dustin, how is KOFXIII’s netcode?
Great. SNK didn’t fuck up this time around. I still had great games with people at 2 bars.
I’m dropping Magneto for Nemesis until I can get his ROM loop down. It’s just too hard for me right now. Firebrand is great with meter, and his assists are more about opening up the opponent more than anything. His damage output sucks, but he does some interesting resets with a suprise Cap. America shield, as long as the opponent isn’t aware. Captain America can do a very efficient relaunch combo in the corner, his L. Shield Slash OTG’s, and his Backflip has some invincibility, so he works well as an Anchor now. I really can’t wait to try my ideas on an actual, live opponent.
I was visiting Nashua on Black Friday. My family and I visited a place called Chunkys. After the movie I immediately got in touch with management to get info on holding an event. Since finding out about the fighting game community, I can’t help being somewhere and thinking about how the establishment could be set up for a tournament. In my mind what the New England community needs, is to continue growing the local scenes throughout the various pockets in the region. I would like to get an idea of what the community thinks about the scene as a whole. Specifically what can be done to grow it. Maybe we can plan for a group skype call/chat? I would like to know what the reality is on the ground from the people who have experience organizing successful tournaments. If your interested in getting together either online or face to face send me a message.
Tito I’ll respond to your post about our scene in a bit when I have the time to sit down and write.
Also KOFXIII netcode has been getting… worst. Like the button delay is horrible now with some games. Try to find some east coast players. It’s really the only way to play.
Tito, what part of Maine are you in?
I’ve been keeping tabs on this thread to see when and if something is going to happen but there doesn’t seem to be a lot in the way of actual meetups. I know I’d love to get some irl sf4 time in.
I went to one small meetup last winter I think, and it was cool, seemed like a good group of guys but we only had like 5, which is over half the crew I take it but still. That’s how it’ll start.
Tito, our scene is a small one. We got about four players in Sanford and four more spread out in Southern Maine. I used to run tournaments over at Culture Crew Gaming when I was sponsored. I tired getting a few new faces to come into the FGC, but they are highly discouraged when they find out how much work they need to put into the genre. Running tournaments is all about having connections with the owner of the building. Only two of us really go out to tournaments to compete, J5 and me. The others are busy with their social lives like work, family, kids, etc. What can be done to make Maine a legit scene? I dunno, I’ve been trying every trick in the book.
My team…Wesker, Akuma, Taskmaster. It just works way to good for me to not use Taskmaster. Xfactor, and you can basically chip everyone to death lol.
Also, unfortunately the Maine scene is not going to increase in size, no matter what ideas you guys come up with, its not going to happen. Ive been competitive gaming in Maine since 1999 starting with Counter-Strike. The way it works is, if people arnt into that genre, they arnt going to pick it up. Like Dustin said, no one wants to take the time to start from scratch and learn now when everyone has far exceeded what they will ever be able to do. Its sad but thats the way it is. This scene will continue to shrink if anything, but I see no possible signs of growth in the near or far future.
This^. Sorry to interject, but this is a good conversation to have and I tend to have a bit harsher view than most:D. At the end of the day Tito, the players have to want it to warrant any effort on your end. NH is just as small in terms of our core group, but not enough of the players outside of that core want anything to warrant much effort. PWA fell through because it was hard enough getting someone to make a flyer, let alone want to consistently help run the tournaments. It’s a shame because the venue would bend over backward to accommodate us and the one tournament we did run in August was a hit amongst a variety of communities that attended. On an aside, the hope is to approach PWA again in January in hopes of revitalizing the tournament series we never really got off the ground. More to the point though, whenever something is announced like “Fighter’s Den” or “Salt Mines” which I hold at my apartment, it is entertaining to hear excuses that people have for not showing up. Ironically those that do not show tend to be the loudest about there being nothing going on in the community…
The point again is that the players have to want things like a venue, gatherings, leveling up (even if they don’t intend on competing at a high level), and camaraderie in order to help a community thrive imo. Mass is the only place where that is happening right now and that’s because the players show up, plain and simple. No excuses. If you have taken a trip to GU on a Friday, or even Tuesdays there are people showing up from over an hour away to play for a measly two hours after work. They want it. That’s what’s needed around these parts too. Not only new blood (no pun intended), but players that aren’t lazy, and want to contribute more than just their occasional presence. With that said I would love to be apart of anything you come up with, and do not have a problem traveling a couple hours to play a set of casuals:tup:. Very interested in others thoughts on this stuff too of course.
On a more recent update, me and my fiance have split up. I am currently looking for 1, a roomate, or 2 my own place. IF I manage to get my own place soon, I will be hosting fight nights, no maybes or possibilities, they will be happening at my house. Ill keep you guys updated on that front but till then…ya
Just a coincidence, but I’m looking for a roomate myself. My number is 206-4751. Gimmie a call if you’re interested in finding a place together.
If you need fliers made up I may be the guy. I would love to be able contribute something.
Might be upsetting news to you guys, but I might be moving out of Maine at the end of winter. Maybe moving to Albany NY. Gonna visit there first in Jan and go to Next Level arcade and see how I like staying there for a week.
I wont be that upset
It does suck that we will just be losing another player to the NYC scene like that needs any help haha. Least you will be able to get some premium practice down there and really up your game if you continue to love fighting games. I just got my apartment and I move in this week so I will be hosting my own fight nights now, its gonna be dope.
I’m always going to love fighting games. 2012 is going to be huge for me, I’m also going to Winter Brawl and Japan. Going to really try to level up my game and rep Maine while I’m still here.
Eeeek, Japan ? thats a little much lol.
