Poll: What to do if 1000 people sign up for SF4

I really don’t quite understand this argument. I myself work a traditional 8 to 5, 40 hour a week office job. We all have our routines, however is it that difficult to deviate from it for one weekend? Does something this epic not justify an inconvenience of a modified sleep schedule for a few days?

Is running single elimination until the bracket reaches the 256 neighborhood, and then switching to double practical? It saves the trouble of sleeping through a few scrub matches nobody wants to see anyway.

Should be are the key words here. everything should go according to plan, players should be right next to the people they are in a bracket with, everyone should not smell like shit while at a public tourney… unfortunately everyone knows a bear shits in the woods but thats means absolutely 0. anything involving human action and interaction will always lead to a change in course. i totally understand what you are trying to get at, but im telling you, impossible.

No, because people who get knocked out first round by Justin Wong and the like and be out early will be pissed off that someone playing Justin Wong later on will lose and still stay in.

Single Elimination all the way until losers finals, winners finals, and grand finals.
3/5, but make it 2/3 if you have to.

SRK can help with PS3, I’m sure people can help.

If you get 50 setups and can get enough people to run it, 1000 people shouldn’t be a problem.

Single Elimination 2/3 is better than a cap because more players will get to play and it will make winning that much more hype.

Can run it 24, but people need to know when they need to be up or most games will be dq.

Also most people register late because it’s unknown if they’ll be free at the time.

and also to all you guys who think you have the answer, srk staff is actually pretty damn intelligent. if all the players would just be in the spot they are supposed to be in at all times the tournament would run super smooth. so if you guys wanna somehow magically discover the key to all this lag… DONT WANDER OFF DURING YOUR POOLS MORONS. we dont need 500 people running a bracket but we do need the players who are supposed to play to be there when called. bottom line.

i am totally prepared to be where ever, whenever mt matches are scheduled… i dont care if it’s 5am or 4:20pm (okay i kinda care but watever)… as long as the time i’m told is accurate i’ll be there ready to fight… this is my first time at EVO so imma do everything by the book (sorta)

…also i’m no good at managing brakets and stuff akin to that (not that i’ve ever tried)… but if you need someone to emc (MC) for while… y’know keep the crowd informed and entertained… i’d do that in a heartbeat… i’m real good at getting crowds pumped… just offering my services

and lastly… are the pools set at double elimination as of now?.. or are they single elim?.. i’d hate to get smoked in my first pool fight and not even have a chance to redeem myself effectively… i’m trying to make a name for myself here!

I’ll be there at 5am.

It’s vegas for goodness sake.

I will be drunk or smelling like stripper.

man the shoryuken up

employ psychic DQ’s

perhaps even UME-DQ. no one should be safe.

Single elimination is whack. Why choose single elimination 3/5 rounds or 2/3 rounds when there’s already a poll choice for double elimination 3/5 rounds ?

edit: if you’re talking about single elimination 3/5 matches, that’s not even in the poll

I’m not sure what all this talk about schedules is about. Of course you can draft a schedule…that’s how we figured out that we would need to either change the format or run a very long tournament in the first place.

The issue is not schedule, but what option would players prefer.

I used to run tourneys all the time. Never 1000 people but you still need help which is why I am only asking for volunteers. No one person can run a tourney of this size and you are forgetting some key things in your arguments.

  1. There are 7 other events taking place in a 3 day span.
  2. There are not 1000 people signed up just the possibility.
  3. Things never go according to plan

The first thing that needs to be done is to get a good list of people to help out in case the tourney reaches monstrous numbers. Once it gets closer to Evo a schedule needs to be in place to accommodate the other games. It would be great to run the pools for 24 hours but then it leaves no time for anything else. I am sure that if there is a way to avoid 24 hour pools it will be done no matter what the vote ends up. It is great that you have planned for one scenario but there will be other games that have a lot of players as well. After May 31st a good number of people will have signed up so it’s best to wait until then before coming up with a plan.

alphazealot you have thought about this a lot. You have to show that you are willing to help out as well. So far only a small number of people have volunteered their time. I know how it is running pools at Evo. Most of the people running the pools usually do it for the entire day and fatigue does set in.

Whatever decision comes up everybody will have to deal with it. The best players will come out on top and if there is an upset then that is how it is. The best players at any game, sport or activity do not strive for top 3 they go for 1st.

Damn straight!!! Any one in my pools that wander off will be eliminated no matter who you are. I have DQ’ed my friends before because they were holding up the tourney. If you travel 1000’s of miles for a tourney then at least devote the couple of hours to play your matches.

24 hour + monster= WIN. And atleast one guy dieing of heart attack

This might be my first Evo, if I can get money and time and a ride/plane ticket. Assuming all that happens, I will not be sleeping. I will be playing as much as possible, in the tournament and casuals, to get all the experience I can. I probably won’t place very high, that’s fine. I’m going so I can get the experience that I can’t get in my area. Man up is the only answer in my eyes. I find it hard to believe that people can’t break their normal sleep schedules for just one weekend.

If man up is voted out by the Evo hierarchs, then 1 game, 3/5 rounds, double elimination is the only other sensible path. Losing in your first round and not having any other chance is just brutal.

Who is Registered

Can we see a list of who is registered for what tournament and number of players registered per game on the registration page so we can know when to register, etc.

yet again you are completely retarded in not hearing me out. read my posts and hopefully you can comprehend the english language enough to read that “I AGREE IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE IDIOT.” unfortunately there is more than 1 thing going on Mr. i staff 1000 person tournies. i dont give a fuck if you run 8 million man tournies, you dont know wtf is going on and you have tried to make your point while i have shot it down yet you still dont know when to stfu… YOU DO NOT KNOW WTF HAPPENS AT EVO AND YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL ANY TYPE OF SCHEDULE NEVER WORKS OUT. get it? now go back to running your “1,000 person tournies” and have fun. pz.

It is survival of the fittest and if someone dies, fuck em.

I ain’t dieing, off screen that is.

Disagreeing with the type of schedule you posted does not imply that it is impossible to run the tournament on time, it means that some people do not like your specific schedule and means for getting it to run on time. Everyone is well aware of how your events are run, but all your posts seem to be there just to reiterate your schedule and your way of doing things, with bonus shots taken at staff and players.

You can obviously make any type of schedule you want and DQ anyone that doesn’t comply, but IMO if you can make a schedule that the players can get behind, then there will be less DQs to begin with, and there will be more support for the DQs that do happen.

Man up, but if you do remember these two words “complimentary deodorant”. You’d need Old Spice sponsorship to handle 24 hour SFIV madness

Right now we’re assuming a single game (2/3) takes 167 seconds (derived from averaging videos from other tournaments), at least 2 minutes between matches for players to setup their joysticks, and some extra slop time to actually find people to play.

The rest falls out from there.

:zzz:there should not be a cap. if 1000 ppl sign up, i say run it normally, for 4 days straight if thats what it takes

only the strong can survive:karate:

and not fall asleep:zzz:

then again, im going to go 0-2 so it dont matter. im just a scrub with a dream after all…
