DanielRGT and I will be probably running brackets anyways, so it’s all good.
man up obviously. or cap, don’t screw over the biggest tournament of the year with single elim of 1 match 3/5 rounds.
Great post. Leave that EC bias to sports, and sports alone ,’)
I feel for the staff on this one. This will be by far the most unique year of Evo/B’s. If more consoles & TVs are used to create more setups, will that cut into the BYOC? I certainly hope not. I know FMJ suggested (if I understood correctly) utilizing the BYOC area during the regular tourney hours and have BYOC during the wake hours of the night. I also hope that does not happen as well. Regardless, should the staff plan on changing the BYOC in any manner, I hope that they will notify the community asap.
I’ve been going to Evo since the B5 (yes, I know it wasn’t referred to Evo back then), and the BYOC has been the best part of the event hands down for me. If the BYOC will be removed or the hours of operation drastically changed, I would like to know well ahead of time so that I can decide if I should still set aside that weekend for Evo (make reserv, plan, etc) or if I should pass on it this year.
wtf, 2nd at wcg with 50+ hours without sleep. to that I SAY MAN THE FUCK UP FRED :smokin:

Hey, I still play HDR.
Thank you, agreed. I’d volunteer to help run a pool, but I don’t have any experience with doing so. But, if there’s nobody more qualified to do it, I would step in!
It is ok if you have no experience. There are many people that do have experience including myself and if it comes to having an army of volunteers, there could be a meeting of some sort to get everybody on the same page.

To those that want to know when they will be up. The answer is when your name is called. If you check in with your pool then you are obligated to stay until it is concluded. I myself never want to DQ anybody but if a couple of people are holding up the entire thing I will not wait for them. What’s worse is that I call matches before and people still manage to disappear. It is still not known how many people will be signed up but we still need more volunteers so step up people.
I have tournament running experience, and I manage a night crew from 10p-6am. If you’re taking volunteers for the 24 hour pools should you pick that option, I’d love to volunteer.
heheheh… is this like a SRK call to arms?.. friggin sweet…
Some updates:
- We will not cannibalize the BYOC to run SF4
- We will probably be able to give people a time window of when their pool will run. Ideally this information will be available shortly after signups close, before Evo even starts.
- We’re going to formalize the bracket judges job for SF4. There will be judge training either Thurs night or Friday morning before the tournament.
I’ve run brackets at evo 2005 and 2006. I’d be happy to run them here. I’ve already signed up and whatnot so I’m a lock.
I also usually run tournaments myself over here in little old VA.
I can also donate a PS3.
If worst came to worst run a 2v2 Team Tourney

Cannon ask urself if you ever thought there would be a fighter to eclipse mvc2 or 3s?
I posted earlier, but again I volunteer to run pools for SFIV. I don’t have any experience but I would love to help out. I will actually be in vegas a day early, on thursday. So I could make the training if it’s on either day. Please let me know. :]
Man up! It sucks for the tournament organizers and people running the pools, but if we want to see our community grow and continue to grow we must welcome all tournament players regardless. If anything we should be excited to have that many people register to play SFIV @ Evo2k9 because it would definitely bring more attention to SFIV and the fighting game scene in general.
I think that’ll work out great by giving out “time windows” when you should be around!
Fucking cry babies!
Man the fuck up!
Great news and good decisions on all accounts. And yes, count me in as a volunteer to help run the brackets so long as I can still compete in SF4, I am generally a strong organizer and with a little bit of training I am confident I can do a good job of this.
How does it work with those running brackets participating in the tourney themselves? I assume you just run a different pool. I certainly want to compete myself.
Pools 1 game, 3/5 rounds, double elimination
Some of us are working stiffs and 5:00am is a ridiculous.
I’d personally like to see a 1024 bracket with say top 32 seeded and the rest randomized. It’d make for a fantastic visual and the most balanced approach.
‘Working stiffs’ isn’t a great reason. I work a night job, day pools is hella unfair to me. 5pm is the middle of my sleep time, I don’t complain.
It’s great saying Man Up and we want our community to grow but by not helping out it actually can do harm. After seeing how the Gamestop tourney finals ended up I am sure people are going to expect a level of professionalism and organization when handling a tournament of this size. If new players show up and there is a lot of waiting and not not knowing what is going on they will most likely not want to participate again.
I am not the tourney organizer nor am I SRK staff but that doesn’t mean that I can’t do my part to help out. Every year a bunch of people post after Evo about how it could have been run better. The answer is more bodies to help out. Just like the plan of having everybody in the know for their pool assignments, it is equally important to have judges ready so that the event goes smoothly.
I have run my pool and played in the past but it is not ideal because you then aren’t focused on the match at hand.
