all your little time frames are cute and dandy but when you have slackers and laggers involved aside from everything else at evo all time frames get thrown out the window. there is no chance you will be able to set a time frame for anything and even with the most generous amount of allotted time things still manage to get behind schedule somehow. mind you staff of evo is very competent and still has problems every year. you can also thank capcom for not making sf4 button changing friendly like hdr this year while youre playing your pools at 5am. pz
Gonna have to agree with Watson on this one. IF THERES ANY ONE THING THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE ITS THE DAMN BUTTON CONFIGURATIONS. If you have a custom stick, make sure you have your configuration memorized, saved on your blackberry or tattooed on your forehead. Whatever you have to do so that I’m not watching hours of button configs. DID I MENTION, MEMORIZE YOUR BUTTONS? Im all for running 24 hour brackets (Mine wont be that long) but I’m gonna DQ people real fast once their alotted time has ran out. AKA if I call your name, you have so much time to respond or your out. Also, every year people come up to me and ask," Do you know what time I will be up?" The answer is NO i have no idea so just STICK AROUND. I know the temptation to wander is high but if your name is called and your not there, GG.
The problem with DQ is … well “names” just don’t get DQ’d at most tournaments… maybe EVO should set an example for this.
I voted for man up
seriously
man the fuck up
Well if they need people to help out, I’m willing to attempt to help in some way. I’m not anybody known so I don’t know if they’d want me to help out but yeah just throwing it out there.
Seriously, 1 game, 3 out of 5 rounds, double elimination is reasonable, plenty of time to adapt and to sleep…
Man up? Obligations > then games, ;[
Man up! I’m probably going, not sure if I’m entering yet.
I’d be willing to loan out my PS3 for Evo if I had some sort of assurance that it wouldn’t get jacked.
Poonage and Jan are right, let me recover from a hangover in the morning. 3 out of 5 rounds is enough time to adapt or steamroll into the next round. Just get some more set ups. FRXII started around 5 pm Saturday and went onto 11 pm with around 8 usable set ups for at least the first two sets of the winners and losers bracket. 10 am to midnight consisted of the rest. I’m pretty sure that with more set ups and the 3 out of 5 round double elimination set up that everything will get done with 4x the amount of people FRXII had.
What obligations to people have on a weekend in Las Vegas?
Work?
yeah, the crappy button config was one of the first things i noticed about SF IV…was it really that much of a hassle to do it right (like HDR)?
Like I said in my earlier post, I have volunteered to run pools at every Evo and yes you can DQ anyone no matter who they are. Once you have checked in with your pool it is your job to stay until you are eliminated or have advanced. In the past it was more difficult because multiple games were taking place at the same time but last year only one game was going and people still couldn’t make it. I voted for 24 hours but not to compensate for people’s inability to make it but to allow the time to get these games in.
For the people that voted to man up, don’t get angry if you get DQ’ed in your 5am pool. I have been pretty lenient in letting people stay but once the tourney is held up I place that person in the losers bracket and if it happens again I eliminate them.
Time tables never work because sometimes you get a pool where every match is competitive and other times its massacres over and over.
Taking over BYOC for that time period would increase the capacity of the event. A lot of the players are going to be trying to get their fill of SF4 that weekend, and it would seem strange for us to be playing SF4 tournament matches at 5am while there will most likely be constant SF4 exhibitions running next to it the entire time.
Keep byoc open all night and use it during the tournament to speed things up.
To be safe “man up!” and if things are going well (if enough time permits then maybe at that point you could change over to a timed schedule
it would also be nice if your bracket is posted to give an idea of when and how long you should hang around your bracket
 shizzle gonna be a crazy year!
man the fuck up!!!
Evo is about the spirit of open competition for everyone without regards to such feeble logistical issues. There is no reason why pools cannot be run overnight, especially if those that are going to be involved in such pools receive advanced notice, they can plan their schedules accordingly. Evo staff may do well to run 12-hour shifts to ensure full coverage.
Logistics should not stand in the way of demand if at all possible. Again, with advance notice, I see no reason why there has to be a “closing time”. Something as huge as this shit should justify staying up past your normal bedtime.
MAN UP!
Hope it turns into a 24-hour pool thing since i get no sleep at tournaments anyway. Would we have to give our contact info like a cell#? or something i know most people won’t want to stay in main room the whole day/night/morning.
I voted for mannin up, but I 'd be ok with db elim too. The evo staff would have to make a HUGE sacrifice to have a 24 hour pool. I honestly wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to do that. Plus, you know that folks are gonna be salty when their alarm doesn’t go off at 4 am and they miss their pool.
Just for the love of everything holy, please don’t do single elim pools. People deserve at least two chances against two different opponents for the amount people are paying to come to evo. Don’t cap it at 512 either, because then the pot won’t be as big for the champ, and lots of people will be denied.
Is it possible to do pools on both Friday and Saturday for 12 hours apiece or is that too hectic?
Yeah, but this is one weekend, not every day. And again, if you know ahead of time that your pool is going to occur something with a certain timeframe (example: between 1 AM and 3 AM) then you can plan your sleep schedule accordingly.
Remember, this is Vegas, there’s a reason casinos do not close.

Seriously though, I voted for 3/5 rounds, double elim. Single elim is awful, so double elim/1 match is the lesser of 2 evils.
The solution is an easy one. Let everybody know when there pool is going to be. If you’re pool is at 3:00 then show up early and stay in the room where the tournament is. I find it funny how everybody talks about manning up. Pretty easy if all you have to do is show up and play. So far reading this thread there are only a couple of people willing to volunteer their time. If you really want this to be the best tourney ever then be willing to help out. If not then don’t complain.
As for the time issue, it is not an issue of matches taking a certain amount of time it is the issue of people not being present. If your bracket is being played then you need to stay there until you are out or advanced. Some people have complained that they didn’t travel across the country to be DQ’ed. If you aren’t present when your name is called then you deserve to be DQ’ed. There is no reason anyone can’t stick around for a couple of hours to play their matches.
alphazealot brings up the points on how effective a time table can be but it won’t work without anybody to implement this.
So far the volunteers to run pools are
ShinJN
Bacardi
Hoonyo
J.D
Shadow Blanka
Anyone that can volunteer to run pools needs to if the event is going to be this big for this game. If you want to volunteer then post that you will be willing to. Inkblot is following this thread and having enough staff to help out will definitely be beneficial.
