This final run-up to the X/Y release has me feeling nostalgic, so I ran down some old forum posts from the olden days. Ran across a classic “Should Mewtwo be Banned” debate topic…
It is amazing how many people fought tooth and nail to leave RBY/Stadium as is and let the metagame grow around it rather than the current Smogon-dominated hodgepodge that seems akin to throwing darts at a dart board when it comes to determining what’s fair game and what isn’t. Why Ubers isn’t an anything goes environment shows you where their mindset is
There was that growing ground swell of anti-Mewtwo/DT sentiment, and there were those that argued that to ban anything was weak and scrubby… I felt like I had come home. That style of playing is a lost art these days. Team building, counters, adaptation… The strategy and insight these guys had is sorely missing in today’s competitive circles.
Why couldn’t these guys have stuck around and led the community instead of the scrub factory named after the Smog Pokemon?

What can I say? I hate Smogon with a passion and am mildly annoyed that I can’t battle anything goes without someone using the terms, “OU”, “Smogon”, “Uber”, “banned”, or “hax” whenever something lucky happens.
