Pokemon X and Y: Aftermath (GEN 6 Discussion, Tier Talk, Breeding, Meganite)

They’re not going to remake Hoenn. It’s the worst gen thus far anyway.

What’s SAV?

So cheating is accepted? LOL.

I used to love Pokemon as much as the rest of you, but when they introduced EV training it turned the game into even more of a massive time sink than it was. I’m a very competitive person by nature I can’t stand just being “okay” at a multiplayer game, if I play it I want to be the best, but with how time consuming it became to keep up being competitive I just said fuck it and gave up, and over time lost interest due to not liking turn based games much anymore.

LOL @ Garchomp and Salamence talk, I remember running them both in my teams, I raped most people with those two alone. Not surprised they were banned, which reminds me aren’t there like 600+ Pokemon in X and Y…how the fuck is it possible to balance them while also making each Pokemon unique? I mean at least a few dozen of them must be palette swaps and with that many Pokemon who the fuck regulates who’s banned or not? I’ve been completely out of the loop since Pearl, but with the sheer number of Pokemon there are now I don’t see how it’s possible to have any consistency in the multiplayer scene I’d bet my life savings that there is no uinversally agreed upon ban list, how could there be? The Pokemon scene is too bloated and subjective to be considered legitimate at this point. is serebii still popular? I heard about Smogon, is it still the retarded hive mind that treats the opinions of the few top players/mods as unquestionable fact, but then strike down differing opinions/analysis by unknown guys? For anyone who still takes multiplayer seriously how do you find the time to EV train and keep up with the stats and meta game and all that shit? It seems almost like it requires Korean pro StarCraft 2 tier devotion lol.

I appreciate anyone who reads and answers my questions, if it seems like I’m hating on you guys for likening Pokemon I’m not, I just see glaring huge flaws with Pokemon multiplayer that have warped it into something it shouldn’t be. Also am I the only one who wants a live action Pokemon game? I mean a game where you actually play as the Pokemon and can attack in real time instead of this turn based shit would get me back into it again. Imagine a Platinum Games developed Pokemon.

WARNING: Long-ass post incoming–
I’m really bored today and haven’t had anything to do, so I’ll try to cover the gist of it… Cheating is disturbingly very accepted by most competitive players and I’d bet a good 90% of players at the recent World Tournament either SAV’d or RNG’d their teams. (A lot of them skirt around the ethical issue by trading with well known “RNGers” to get their teams)

I’ll cover SAV-ing and RNG-ing in the spoiler:

[details=Spoiler]First off, PokeSAV is an external program that allows people to create and edit .Pkm files that can be downloaded to either an R4 cart or uploaded to a fake GTS server and downloaded directly to a legitimate DS game-- This is how the majority of competitive players create and modify their teams. Pretty much every competitive player does this and if done properly, these Pokes are indistinguishable from the real deal.

Matter of fact, the recent Wi-Fi event saw over 1500 players get disqualified for being terribly inept at hacking and getting caught by Nintendo’s very lax hack checks… Said players are banned from competing in the upcoming X/Y Test Competition, lol.

An alternative to this is to “RNG,” or use an external program to show you how to manipulate the game’s internal RNG*(by manipulating the in-game clock/pressing A on the perfect frame)* to produce legit perfect Pokemon right from the cart itself. The only drawback to this method is that the Pokemon still need to be EV trained, but GameFreak has made this extremely easy in B2/W2, and will be even more simplified in X/Y with the Super Training minigames. I can fully EV a poke in under ten minutes now, and it should be even faster in the new games since you can do it right from the menu
[/details]

As far as the competitive scene goes, Smogon is the same as it ever was(arguably worse)- full of egotistical, elitist trolls who proclaim anything that doesn’t match their vision of how the “metagame” plays as the “wrong way to play.” There a few voices of reason among the cacophony of idiocy, but they are easily drowned out by the droning mass of whiny scrubbery *see Bious’ link for the kind of crying that makes even the worst of FGD look sane by comparison
*

That, and the Smashboards-esque method of banning anything the crybaby horde deems as “overpowered” or “over-centralizing” (their favorite excuse) is the modus-operandi of the current bloated mass of failure that is Smogon.

This, and the complete hypocrisy and inconsistency of what they choose to ban is the moldy, rotten cherry on top of the smelly shit-cake-- The fact that Blaziken, who at one point was floundering in the Underused tier, is in possession of two abilities, the standard Blaze(grants a boost to Fire type attacks when health is low), and the currently only widely available to Japanese players hidden ability Speed Boost(increases Speed stat by 1.5x at the end of every turn it is in play) is COMPLETELY BANNED from OU play regardless of ability*(due to the aforementioned cries of “over-centralization” from the Speed Boost version)*, while the notorious Garchomp is free to roam so long as it does not have the Sand Veil ability, but using ones with the hidden ability Rough Skin is fine, is case in point why any opinions regarding fair play and expertise on Pokemon coming from that place is met with a roaring laughter, mockery, and acidic vitriol from the majority of players here.

TL;DR: Fuck Smogon. They are a cancer to the Pokemon playing populace and their futile attempts to regulate a game as volatile as Pokemon is the true definition of insanity.

where’s my king’s rock

The difference here is that these cats were centralizing because they were good at what they did but weren’t unstoppable, while Chomp was over-centralizing to the metagame. It demolished everything in standard play with one free turn and didn’t have any true counters unless the user made a dumb/bad play.

Think the Big 4 in CVS2 (i.e. Sagat, Blanka, Bison, Sakura) being the top tiers of the previous Pokemon gens (really good, but not unbeatable), while ST Akuma being Garchomp.

The problem with smogon is that they didn’t know when to stop. Soon any pokemon that were simply effective were getting the banhammer because players were too lazy to deal with them an adapt. Wanting to ban Scizor is perfect example. Scizor is damn good, but not some invincible monster. It has clear weaknesses and a limited offensive movepool. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it should be banned.

Speaking of SAV’ing… @Infernoman, I owe you an apology.

A while back we had a discussion about EV training the old-fashioned way vs just hacking them to save time. I believe I said that EV training, breeding, etc, are what make the game fun and what it is; just hacking them is lazy and for people who want things handed to them without working for it. I still somewhat feel this way, but here’s what happened:

In W2, I planned out what team I wanted with the moves, items, abilities, EVs, and everything. The first Pokemon was a Shiny Haxorus that you catch in-game. I SR’ed for an Adamant one, then saved after I got it. Little did I know, the shit had Rivalry instead of Mold Breaker… There was no going back, so I just went with it. Next, I fucked up the Roserade I bred by evolving it before it learned Toxic Spikes… Instead of breeding and EV’ing it all over again, I just changed the set. The worst was the Eevee that’s gifted to you in-game with its DW ability. I evolved it into an Espeon w/Magic Bounce and EV’d it, but it had the wrong nature, and it was Male(I wanted to name it Psylocke, and males don’t pass on abilities). Eventually, I came across an app that let me redo all this shit in seconds call Pokebuilder. I’ve been using it ever since instead of wasting more time doing it the hard way. However, I quickly lost interest in the game, as the app gave me everything I needed. I didn’t even have to grind at the PWT for BP to get Life Orbs, Choice items, etc anymore. I didn’t do any funny shit with the stats or anything, though. I made them as legit as possible, just shiny, but I still feel like a semi-hypocrite.

Tl;dr - I’ve seen the error of my ways, and I apologize.

So it’s the hell version of SRK?

Basically. Except SRK populace doesn’t do dumb shit like ban SFIV Akuma because he’s too good or whatever bullshit excuse scrubs come up with.

When you choose to ban something, you walk a very slippery slope… Smogon has long since tumbled off that slope and slid into the abyss… The fact that they continue to have any influence at all is an embarrassment to Pokemon players everywhere.

On the topic of hacking/SAV/RNG-- I don’t care. I actually enjoy the breeding aspects of the game(I enjoy most aspects of Pokemon, save for the plot, which improved in B/W, and some elements of competitive, obviously), so seeing someone produce a flawless team in mere minutes rubs a bit raw, but I’m not gonna give them shit over it.

I understand what GameFreak was trying to do with the IV/EV system, but it is antiquated and needs to be overhauled… The damn in-game Battle Subway throws mons at you with perfect stats, for goodness sake… The fact that people have found ways to manipulate the system to their advantange is just a mark of the incredible obsession and dedication people have to be the best.

Banning should only be reserved for deliberately broken nonsense or unforeseen glitches or hacks that ruin the game.

from experience i can say that after a good 30-45 min investment, you can start RNG catching perfect IV pokes in like 3-6 min each and 15-20 min for breeds. Not too bad considering you are getting a legit fully perfect poke (you can control shininess and ability too)

tis ok good sir. See man it wouldn’t be like this is Gamefreak just make them visible and allowed us to not feel like everything in the game was broken down to basically gambling with stats. That’s not how a good RPG should be. Problem is They and again Nintendo use this crutch as a poor excuse to “balance” game by making random chance the only way say a shitty pikachu can Crit hit a pokemon it has no business even fighting.

I spend a LOT of gen 3 breeding for my perfect pkmn but because i grinded for days back then just for a team of six, it truly was killing my love of the game. I love the battle aspect and the idea of strategy. Too bad they force you to take chances for no reason which is why I just hack my legit team because I honestly just have no time in my life anymore to actually work for it. Too much work for too little reward. Breeding for perfect pkmn shouldn’t be a chore, it should be fun.

We all have that moment where we’re contradicting ourselves. At least you admitted that you did. heh most cats on just here alone wouldn’t ever do that. I tip my hat to you but trust me when I say, I too didn’t want to admit what I was doing wasn’t cheating. I know what I’m doing isn’t technically fair but I at least don’t make them godly pkmn that are untouchable.

Coro coro drops in about two weeks (it may leak early though) and we’ll have the fairy type chart.

… Taking bets on the amount of Smogon/Aero/AntiVirgin tears if they’re immune to dragon.

In the words of the immortal Bart Scott, "CAN’T WAIT!"

I haven’t been this excited about Pokemon in a long, long time… The Smogon tears have rejuvenated me; I feel like I’m 12 years old again, lol.

I hope that every time a Smogoner goes online everyone they play has a MegaBlaziken(which we all will, thanks, GameFreak!)

Banning Gen 4 Chomp was probably the last good decision Smogon has made, it’s been that long. Ugh.

Back then, 103 base speed was very decent. But, even moreso it was decent on a pokemon like Garchomp. With the evasion boost, 100% attack accuracy were dwindled down to a measly 73% or something. That’s almost the equivalent to a focus blast or non-hail storm blizzard. Derp. Getting SD and S/R resist was the icing on the cake, but the ones that REALLY annoyed me were the Subs Chomp in SS. That’s like the biggest bullshit ever. Shit, Weavile and Ice Fang Gyarados went Top Tier for awhile just to counter him lol.

I wish there was a BL tier as compliment to what is drastically powerful in OU but second tier to Uber. Throwing shit in uber solves nothing, it’s just smogon’s way of shutting everybody up.

Ubers isn’t even a real tier, though: it’s simply the ban list for OU.

Just use vanish then x-zone on smogon.

A Pokemon-Based Nintendo Direct is scheduled for tomorrow (11AM EST.) Don’t know what it’s about, but it may have the type chart.

Fuck this mega evolutions for charizard, blastoise and venusaur. Can choose between Charmander, Bulbasuar, and Squirtle too in x and y later on in the game. Fuck Pokemon Bank with it’s cloud shit and annual fee. Store up to 3,000 pokemon in the cloud my ass. Pokemon Transporter to transfer old pokemon it’s another program too.

Mega Venasaur has Thick-Fat.

Mega Charizard has Drought (Lol.)

Mega Blastoise has a new ability called Mega Launcher which increases the power of its moves.

FUCK YEAH MEGABLASTOISE! now he got 3 water cannons! ahahahaha! oh man Gamefreak just be like “fuck smogon! we’ll evolve pokemon mid battle and ain’t nothing you can do about it!”
