God damn so many pokemon. I only know the first 150… and then some of generation 2 ones. lol.
Maybe they’ll make it to 800 Pokemon this Gen.
Still, instead of Gen 6, Stadium 3 and Snap 3D should’ve been released. I wouldn’t be worried right now if it were those. Heck, I would’ve already bought a 3DS by now in the couple of hours since the announcement. Stadium 1 was amazing. One of my favorite games ever.
In fact, that applies to pretty much any game. Too many Street Fighter games and 5 doesn’t come fast enough? At least it’s better then COD. Too many sports games? At least it’s better then COD (barely). Too much Wii and DS shovelware? At least it’s better than COD.
Okay, so you clearly don’t know why what you said is silly. Allow me to explain: your assertion of “oozing quality” is baseless, and the idea that Pokemon “introduces new things” compared to COD and “games like it” (I’m assuming you mean FPSes) is beyond ridiculous.
What new things? Breeding (a grind)? The useless contests (another grind)? EV training (an old grind retooled into an even dumber grind)? Shiny Pokemon (sub-par)? I’m reasonably certain we could compare all of these things to whatever particular new weapons/game types/maps each new COD introduces and find parallels real damn easy.
At best, both series are fundamentally similar: an interesting underlying concept marred by a bullshit grinding element (or, in Pokemon’s case, 17 bullshit grinding elements). At worst, COD sucks, but far less than Pokemon as a whole.
And this is coming from a guy who would rather play Pokemon than anything with “Call of Duty” in its title.
Two things:

Can we keep the Pokemon vs other titles arguments and whatnot out of here please? I’m not the creator of this thread, but unless I’m mistaken this is just supposed to be a discussion about the just announced Pokemon X/Y…
I just realized though. In the trailer, the main character is using roller blades. Perhaps this will be replacing the bike?

0:26.
And on another note, if you look at the intro to the video…looks like the region may be based on Europe after all. The camera zooms out to a view of Earth and it looks like the lightning is coming from Europe.
I like the fire starter…
That’s the only thing good that I can say about all of this. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the 3DS and this doesn’t change my mind.
Going into Gen 5 I felt like Pokemon was starting to suck. I didn’t care abouy most of the new Pokemon like the Trubbish family but most of grew on me after a while. The soundtrack and focus on story was cool (godlike low hp theme). Black 2 and White 2 made things even better. Gen 5 turned out A LOT better than I expected and is my favorite next to Gen 3. Even with all of this, it showed that Nintendo is running out of ideas.
We don’t know much about this new Gen, but the starters’ design seem less appealing and just boring except the fox starter. I started out loving Snivy and hating Tepig and Oshawott to loving all of them, but I don’t see that happening this time. Being a handheld game I don’t care much for the 3D upgrade. Now there will be like 50 ‘legendary’ Pokemon making them less special except Arceus being the god Pokemon that it is. There’s just too many IMO.
Maybe I’ll get it if a 3DS is handed to me on a silver platter but the Vita is the only device that can save my interest in serious handheld gaming.
Looks like i might buy a Pokemon since silver/gold ownage!
looks good.
wonder if they will include voice acting as well for both people and pokemon…
I honestly have no issue with any of this.
Gen 5 will be 3 years old when this is released.
Urgh, sorry for lagging behind on the actual Pokemon thread we have here. But anyway, I just viewed the trailer, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about it. However, these games are coming out WAY TOO FUCKING FAST this time around. Seriously, B/W just got released. Then, GF pulled a Capcom by releasing B/W 2 shortly months after. This turned me off a little bit, to the point where I didn’t even pick up B/W 2 because it just screamed like a money puller. Poison type gym leader? New legendary forms? Not appealing enough, though the last couple of “3rd Games” in a GEN have rubbed me this way. You would have to be foolish to think this won’t boost the 3DS sells though, which is already kicking Vita’s ass in Japan and Pokemon is still IMMENSELY popular there. I bought a 3DS solely for Fire Emblem, but I knew that I was going to pick one up eventually because of GEN 6 and GF is surely milking the franchise.
Some of the problems with GEN 5 was the massively retarded bases on new Pokemon. Remember when 125 base ATK was consider GDLK? Well, not anymore. It’s seen quite average now with so many Pokemon breaking into damn near 150s. That’s ridiculous, why does GF feel the need to make Pokemon so damn powerful now? So many Pokemon can OHKO it’s not even funny anymore, it’s quite sad to see how the power trip has skyrocketed. This make other Pokemon that are too weak very expendable, with no clever low tier tactics being utilized in game play for being redundant or hard to setup. Pure fire types are getting hammered, even Steels don’t block the shit that we have been accustomed to seeing in the past. From a competitive aspect, weather was way too powerful in the metagame. It changed the tiers, made Pokemon bases even more threatening, and was ridiculously easy to setup permanently. Sand Storm was a problem in G4, but all weather was a problem in G5. I still feel like Dragons have an advantage type all Pokemon in the game–me and white shadow IIRC talked about how there needs to be something like Ice Rock or some shit (similar to Stealth Rock, but with Ice properties) to tone them down. Speaking of Stealth Rock, that shit is still annoying too. But, not as much as it was in G4. Thank god some at GF thought about Magic Bounce, or that shit would still be dumb.
Looking at the starters, ugh I dunno man. The only one that looks appealing is the Grass one, but the last couple of Grass starters haven’t been doing super hot late game. Why does GF feel the need to do water, grass, fire every single time? Why not mix it up with psychic, dark, and fighting? Also, the last couple of fire types have ended in fire/fighting. There needs to be more clever type combinations which was one of the more appealing things in GEN 5. I want something like Fire/Water or Ground/Fighting.
I didn’t mean to shoot up a wall of text, so I’ll just level off here. Pokemon is still fun to me, but some of the recent shit has me questioning where it’s going over the years and I don’t like some of the dumb shit GF has been doing.
wrong
pokemon black and white was released 3 years ago
the 3ds was in development before then , apperently this game has been being worked on since around that time
3 years is the gen cycle
remember what happened with the ds
when they just released leaf green and fire red and then the ds games came out, the only reason it seem soon is because its a new system
calm down
black and white was released 3 years ago , thats the gen cycle
You all understand why it’s “X and Y” this time, right?
X and Y can refer to dimensions.
Dimensions…3 Dimensional…3DS…
Yeah.
Please for the love of christ link me to a bigger version of your AV
NA market makes it close to two years–I don’t live in Japan. Even though I exaggerated with B/W 2’s release it was still being put into development way early in B/W’s life span.
Yeah, I was wondering why people were bitching about it being “too soon”. It’s a 3 year Gen wait like before, and the perception of it is fucked up due to localizations from before and the fact that it’s on a new system. It seems hella fast for us because IT’S THE FIRST WORLDWIDE RELEASE. We’re no longer lagging 6 months-1 year behind Japan for getting these games which really makes the perception of “OMG too soon” come in. It will be nearly 2 years from BW2 if not over (don’t remember exactly when they got BW2) before X/Y comes out over there. The timeline is fine, especially since I doubt many people actually pick up every single Poke game.
As for the game itself…3D overworld, about freaking time. People might be annoyed with the grid system being kept in but it makes things smoother when it comes to trainer/wild poke battles and such. No more sprites, I can get behind that. The Pokes themselves…everyone loves the Fire starter (Fenneken)…myself included. Other two pokes can grow on me. Also, the possibility of all three being Dual-Typed from the start intrigues me. Fenneken at the least definitely looks Fire/Psychic…hopefully GF decides not to screw it like Ninetales. I like the theory being thrown around where it’s not only a Fire/Water/Grass Trio but a Psychic/Fighting/Dark trio as well. It would bring a new, interesting dynamic to the starters and possible Rival Battles.
I’m intrigued Game Freak…very intrigued.
You can ask any real PMKN fan that it just has the feel of being rushed with shit popping all over the place though. I mean 800 fucking Pokemon, that’s a lot. Some can’t even get past the original 150. Hell, 250.
Though it seems like I’m complaining, I’m very hopeful that GF will deliver yet again. I thought B/W was a fun game, outside some mechanics.
EDIT: Also, get rid of the team preview thing stupid shit see this is what I was saying
So what’s the official Pokemon tally now?
Well, if you get a lot of the Pokemon games then I understand why it would feel rushed. If you don’t though, and again I’m assuming the majority of SRK doesn’t, then it’s not that big of a deal and Pokemon never struck me as a franchise that you SHOULD get every game for. It seems more built for every so often.
And yes I know a lot of people can’t get past the 1st/2nd Gen Pokemon. Nothing really I can say about that.
Not fond of all 3D games, but I’ll reserve my Judgement till it comes out.
That grass starter is cute though.
