Special attackers have gotten shafted since this thing’s inception, to the point where Mewtwo ran Submission in older gens to even hope to get past it. And while it’s much more managable now with things like Psyshock and whatnot, physical attackers have only gotten better and better, with no physical Blissey to deal with, much more spammable high power moves, and almost every form of priority is physical. Not to mention the best special boosting moves Quiver Dance and Nasty Plot have much less distribution than Swords Dance and Dragon Dance.
Not R/B era. Remember Amnesia Snorlax, Amnesia Mewtwo, Starmie, Gengar, Hyperbeam Dragonite? Special being one stat made shit was horribly unbalanced.
G/S was the only Gen I can say was truly physically oriented (largely due to stat uppers like Curse being mostly physically typed), and even then it largely didn’t matter since all stats could be maxed [out via Box Trick], so the weren’t any polarizing stat spreads past the base stats. (i.e., Most OU Pokemon could take hits on both sides of the spectrum fairly well.)
R/S and D/P was the era of the Salamence Mixers, but most of the game changing threats came from the special side of the offensive spectrum, esp. since the advent of that retarded move Draco Meteor in D/P, hence why Blissey was still the ultimate Special Wall for those gens. Boltbeam/Blastbolt + Hidden Power covered a lot of things that Special/Mixed Attackers weren’t really meant to cover and made many of their natural counters moot. I don’t recall Natural Gift ever seeing such usage.
B/W was a mixed bag, there’s Keldeo Secret Sword, and Psyshock, but also the disgustingly offensive physical attackers like Terrakion and Haxorus. Then again, I hated that Gen thanks to ridiculous amounts of power creep, so meh…
But back to battle mechanics, there are a lot more physical checks, period. Traits, moves, and status effects all centered around reducing ATK stats which are more widespread and feasible to use. Special Attack “counters” are largely situational and based more on resistance/immunities than actual checks.
Okay guys… So I’m thinking of making #TeamCuteAsFuck. And I have a few that come to mind that. So I was thinking Sylveon, Blissey, Goodra, Aurorus so far… I really like how Aromatisse and Slurpuff look, but they’re both Fairy and I already have Sylveon… (Might throw them in there for whatever)… But, yeah. Some feedback would be cute.

Game just confirmed I need to have Slurpuff in my party. This dress is amazing. This is the dress you get from the Painter girl. Any of the ruffle items you get from Anistar should be fine. The outfit I used was:
