Pokemon General Discussion Thread - It's Lit(ten)!

I… Mawile confirmed Uber

Got 4iv hella jolly outrage gible, impish fire fang/DD tyrunt and modest deino spitbacks get at me with offers

That is the most adorable gif I’ve ever seen. I’m gonna go catch a Mawile just because of this

I finally did it… I finally fucking did it…

Alright, I’m at Battle 50 against Nita. I used Kangaskhan, Gliscor, and Delphox to get this far. I honestly thought that I would get murdered by water types but it never happened.

But I did have to survive THREE count 'em THREE Veterans b4 this. One of them wasn’t too bad, but the other too were near mindfucks. If I didn’t have Choice Scarf Delphox with Switcheroo the match would have been over. I’m declaring my custom Delphox as standard for competitive battling!

The last Veteran had a Landorus that took out my Gliscor with Smack Down then FISSURE… I had no words.

So… I know what Nita runs thanks to Serebii, and even though I know exactly how to play it no matter which Genie she leads with, I’m still hesitant to continue.

What do guys think? Can I body her free with what I have, or should I consider changing it up. Honestly if I had Rotom-W her entire team would be irrelevant minus Confusion from Hurricane.

About the poison jab vs iron head, wouldn’t you say that iron head has its uses too? That 30% flinch rate is sometimes too good to pass up. Then again, poison damage can net you a critical KO after your attack.

This is a tough one.

At the end of the day it really boils down to what your team needs to take care of and ehat you lack coverage on

Rotom-W seems like a good call. I wouldn’t factor in the confusion from Hurricane since it’d have to hit you and confuse you, which has a 7% chance of happening.

they have no uses on garchomp, there are only 6 or 7 fairies you should worry about
earthquake hits mawile and klefki harder than any other option garchomp has
stone edge hits togekiss harder than any other option garchomp has while also doing the most damage to mandibuzz (another prominent flyer)
this leaves azumarill, sylveon, florges, and clefable as the only other faires out there, using either poison jab or iron head means you have to give up using stone edge, fire fang, or fire blast

stone edge is so that togekiss doesn’t wall the living shit out of you while also covering mandibuzz and gyarados
the fire moves are for those steel types like aegislash, ferrothorn, skarmory, and genesect who would otherwise wall the ever living shit out of your garchomp without it, using iron head or poison jab makes their job easier

outside of azumarill, EQ is always a 3HKO just like poison jab or iron head are, while it does do a little less damage, a 3HKO is a 3HKO, which means you’re not beating them anytime soon

leaving azumarill the only reason you should run poison jab in which you go from having a 94.1% chance of 2HKOing it with EQ to always 2HKOing it with poison jab, i’m fairly certain i’m not alone, but i’ll take that 5.9% risk of not 2HKOing azumarill instead of running poison jab which outside of azumarill, literally does nothing

poison and steel are still bad offensive types to use if they don’t have the STAB bonus thanks to not having strong moves and the one move that does has very unreliable accuracy and terrible distribution (gunk shot), the only reason focus blast is used on some pokemon is because they can’t get around certain targets without it

yea this should be in competitive, but seriously, don’t use poison jab on garchomp, don’t use iron head on garchomp, you’re limiting his effectiveness and making the opponents job easier

I have a jolly honedge for you. PM me when you get some Gibles

Well i just got Glameow, Castform, and Finneon

If anyone gets one of those 6IV Japanese shiny Dittos let a dude know.

Are those going around on Wonder Trade or something? Sounds awesome.

Some online communities are cloning them and giving them away, so they’ll eventually get more common.

Quick question what would be the ideal nature for Yamask? I have one with a bold nature and I’m going to start breeding for IV’S.

bold or careful are ideal natures, 90% of the time you want bold

(Late reply @Iduno - I already knew what a hermit crab was. I just wasn’t sure if Crustle counted as a crustacean given it is Rock/Bug Bug/Rock and not a Water type like the other three aforementioned crustaceans are. Then again, having looked at it given I avoided Gen V, that’s pretty obviously what it’s based on and, if we’re going to get picky, then among other things, the various spiders shouldn’t be Bug type, so…)

Speaking of crustaceans, holy Hera, mother of gods, does Crawdaunt hit fucking hard now with Knock Off. Between the boost to the move–even though it’s still taking a while to get used it not affecting the Mega items–and Crawdaunt having apparently gotten Adaptability somewhere along the line with its already sky high attack and STAB, I can’t think of any non-Mega that wants to switch into that attack coming from it; not that things not named Ferrothorn like switching into Knock Off as it is, but still. Even the Mega-capable pokemon get scouted if they don’t lose anything since none of them have Sticky Hold or anything like that.

…Which is why I’m tempted to just be an incredible asshole and build a team around a Choice Band Crawdaunt with the name “Knock It Off”.

Also late in this reply. I see. Thanks.

Castform not getting a Rock type form for Sandstorm is a small blessing given Rock has unfortunately been one of the shittier types ever since Steel’s bloated ass reared its ugly head back in Gen II. Even the Special Def. buff given by Sandstorm didn’t ever really help any Rock type pokemon aside from the already good T-tar and maybe Cradily even when Sandstream used to kick up an infinite Sandstorm. Additionally, Castform not getting a form for that type of weather makes sense since even though sandstorms are recognized as meteorological phenomena, they’re more based on ground conditions than anything happening in the clouds really, which is what Castform was made for.

To improve Castform even now they could just give it a type change to Ghost or Fairy or something other than the ironic placeholder for weirdness that is Normal type. Having thought about it recently, I’m not really sure if its ability would allow it to have a second type without something “breaking”, but changing it to like Normal/Ghost or Ghost/Fairy would give it at least a bit more mileage. This even though Gamefreak likely won’t ever give it an evolution, thus causing it to likely stay niche.

It’s still better than Kricketune at any rate. Ugh. Kricketune’s very existence still depresses me. How can something that isn’t Unown and that’s fully evolved be so bad? Even Delibird and Luvdisc and Farfetch’d are more threatening.

That’s pretty cute, I’ll admit. My cynicism had me expecting her to fly at the screen at the end and try to eat you with the “fake” mouth though.

I’m still surprised Mawile got any attention at all after three generations, much less a Mega forme.

Kricketune isn’t THAT bad. It gets Technician after all, meaning it can do a thing. I feel that Castform was made to warn people about the weather-tastrophe that was gonna happen 2 gens from then.

crawdaut’s only problem is that it’s frail as shit while being pretty slow, seriously only reason why he’s not used much

kricketune is pretty asstastic

Sorry to stir an old pot, but do you really think you’ll be consistently hitting anything multiple times in a row with Stone Miss Edge ?

You’re not wrong Mood, but Stone Edge isn’t OHKO’ing Togekiss (2HKO), Gyarados (2HKO after -1 attack due to intimidate) or Mandibuzz (3HKO) even with Stealth Rocks on the field (2HKO at best then), so you’d likely die 1v1 against either one these pokes regardless (dat gleam, dat ice grill, dat foul play) unless you’re lucky and clutch hit 2/3 times or get a hax crit.

Iron Head is meh imo, but Poison Jab for me is good money on predicted non-steel fairy switch ins that were expecting Outrage/Dragon Claw as you get to outspeed them and pick them off next turn. But I use a Bulky Sub non standard Chomp soo…

In other news, how many people here are still looking for a 6iv Ditto? I gave one to ShinBlanka but I have a few more to give away as long as you have no moral objections to cloning

Ill take a ditto if you have one IGN: randy savage.
