Please play Marvel

Agreed. My sentinel is slow and I use him differently too make up for my lack of skills with his fly/unfly stuff. All I am really trying to do is get in a few HSFs do to some serious damage and maybe kill an assist.

If you have a good understanding of the game and what the god tier are capable of, you can hold your own even with low tier characters. Of course, once you get good you will want to use buff teams anyway.

Just because you know how to ROM, it does not mean you have already won the match. Learning to properly apply such wickedness is the difference between the good and the great players.

Every week I go to gw and I tell myself I am going to learn marvel some time later. Really, though I couldn’t even figure out where to start. It’s not even that rape is discouraging. I’ve been going to gameworks and getting raped for about a year now in 3s so obviously I’ve no problem losing every game every night.

I’ve a copy of marvel for dc but no stick, and I don’t see how I’m going to learn by jumping in thursday nights.

Like some have said other games are easier to watch and replicate but there is so much going on at once I’ve no idea what is going on.

Would I like to play marvel? Yeah, I just can’t figure out where to start I guess.

When the game first came out in 2000, I just went ahead and played. I got served hard for a good two or three years, even though I had it at home. I wanted to get good so I kept playing. I think a month after it got released at my arcade, I went out to the old Gamer’s Edge out in Tacoma and got my Dreamcast modded and bought the JPN version. hahah

Just gotta keep at it, I guess.

ling (cross hand guy) has an awesome understanding of the game. his fast fly, not automatic; storm, ok rushdown; but he knows how to zone and just play the game. he knows how to block, and he knows how to cover assists, never gets reset. he’s beaten me too many times just flying around and punishing everything with capcom – it’s one of his trademark comeback tactics…

if you really want to practice, i think you need your own stick. i played for a few years now knowing how to tri jump, but after getting a stick, it came within a few days…

Cross handed guy is fucking garbage. Only reason he hangs is because of storms dhc. He learned the magnus’ triple fierce because that is all he could do thanks to the retarded way he holds the sticks and even then just ran away with him. His sentinel is nasty and full of randomness. Cross handed guy and awesome should never be in the same sentence. I hate playing his dumb ass, fucking random. Please believe.

Harsh… :wtf:

Anyways, I’m pretty much done with marvel for a while. No point in practicing if you haven’t got a stick (mine is currently converted for USB), and it’s no fun against the comp.

I disagree with a lot of stuff said here. First of all, being able to do fastfly/unfly stuff is, though not key, quite important to have in high-level play. Having solid fundamentals is great, but when facing someone with solid fundamentals AND advanced execution, you lose more often than not. This is because solid execution and advanced tactics are so useful in dealing out more damage than the other player. Sure, you can get that 8-hit air combo off every time, but when you hit someone twice with it, he hits you once with an infinite into a super, then a DHC for the kill.

Facing off against a Sent with good refly/fastfly gets you chipped down at the other side of the screen while you are forced into the air to escape his ground fierces, only to be met with the frying pan in the air.

You get the point. It really is, as Kieth has said before, who controls all the variables the best.

Just to throw this in, sometimes it can just be about being good at taking opportunities. There are a couple of incredibly good Marvel players in Bellingham that I almost never win against, but the times I win aren’t when my fundamentals are particularly great, or having great execution, but seeing opportunies. For example, someone using MSS brought out a storm assist while rushing me down with his mag, and I saw an opportunity to pushblock and dash in for the snapback, killing off storm and guardbreaking the next two characters for the win.

If it weren’t for those moments, I probably would’ve given up on marvel by now.

aw you don’t like cross hand guy?! he’s just a cool guy… he’s the one who taught me about unfly mode, and when i first started playing he’d sandbag just to keep me interested.

better yet, he plays marvel! he comes to the hub to hang out.

you’re right. overall, you need to pretty much have it all to win consistently.

Learning how to fast fly and ending it with rocket punch is gay, sometimes…

This doesn’t entirely apply to Marvel buuuuuuut…

I don’t find myself playing as much becuase, even though, most is “casual”, people be playin’ serious as shit. Sure, I’m no good, I know that. Sure, I SHOULD be able to be decent as I know what I’m doing, but I don’t ‘ave the execution down (mostly due to lack of play). The thing is certain play styles jus’ piss me off to the point where I’d rather: go out, get a milkshake, and watch hot chicks walk around downtown; as opposed to playing against a runaway player spamming assists and DHCs.

Yes, I’m WELL AWARE, that getting be by such tactics are my fault. This jus’ leads me to play less. This lack of execution leads me to play games less becuase, I"m not nearly as serious about playing to the point where when it becomes bothersome, I go do something else. This applies to both 3s and MvC. As far as GG is concerned, it doesn’t get any play but I don’t feel this way nearly as much (even in Japan against, much better players than I’ve ever encountered). As far as Tekken is concerned… that game is BASED upon fucking up, IMO. That’s a whole 'nother thing though.

I digress. My team of choice requires a ton of effort, I’m quite aware. I"m sure that when I become more proficient, it’ll be more worth my time waiting in a 8+ man line to get destroyed by the likes of Seattle’s finest.

BTW, I had most fun, so far, playing against Madnel (yes, I think that name suits you Deezo… “Mad” hahahahaha!) and Pablo’s low-tier playing friend.

Im still trying to find a third team… Don’t know though.

Haven’t seen any Tacoma players in a minute.

I’m all about playing Marvel, unfortunately I am missing two key components: 1) any form of competition and more importantly, 2) any place/way to play Marvel. If I could get those problems solved, I’d be all about playing Marvel again.

Puyallup! god dammnit! lol! Hear me!

Fine. But if you guys are going to play, give me at least a day’s notice so I can start traveling 24 hours before hand. My lack of transportation means it takes awhile for me to get anywhere. Lols.

Any Marvel going on this week? I was wrapped up dealing with women last week, and I’m suffering from gaming withdraw once more. I need to DHC someone or something. Also need to work on my patented GHVB, make sure David doesn’t get a leg up on me in executing it. I hope I won’t have to resort to attending Gameworks come Thursday.

marvel IS like crack once u start playin’ it!
one of my fav games for sure!
but im stuck playin’ it on a DC controller:sweat: cuz tha arcade in oly closed down…
lothar that’s a tite ass av…but i hate the spurs!

Im trying to get something crackin…we’ll see…

When possible, you will receive rep. Excellent post sir hahah.

Third team? Look no further than Fishscale. You know what’s up.

That team is so boss…

Wtf are you talking about, of course unfly is important for Sent, Unfly combos are what I said weren’t necessary, which is true. Basic Fastfly is super easy, but even fastfly isnt NECESSARY to play sent. Were you even here while Stilt was here? His characters were all hot garbage but he still got wins alot of the time, thats one prime example of what Im saying, Im not sure I ever saw that dude break 6 hits without supers but he would beat people. I know ogs around here that still could compete with slightly modified 2001-2002 tactics against good players, cause they have fundamentals. Against most people honestly if you can block well thats half the battle right there, a mid level mag that knows every reset every combo and can do them with his eyes closed in training mode gets assraped against someone who can actually block and play defense. Marvel is a steak dinner, you’re worrying about the dinner roll and the steamed vegetables, worry about the meat.

That was BOPtastic!

I am never scared going into battle, I thrive on the challenge. That feeling is like crack to me.
