What’s with you and raccoons?
Sly’s counter is ridiculous and invisibility is annoying as fuck lol!
Don’t forget his s1 has armor as well…
He’d do well almost guaranteed. Despite Kratos being “predictable” he has too many tools and gains AP too fast with little consequences. Compare his moves to Nariko for example, his are all safe and are even longer reaching than hers. He would definitely be a good choice to compete as his supers are good too
I’ve been making a comparison to Marth from Smash for a while now, I think that’s around how he’ll function competitively.
Oh, another thought. I came up with some fun buffs for Daniel Fortesque that aren’t just “more AP build” or “Buff supers vaguely” that would make him a bit higher up on the goodness list.
-No pushing the opponent back on his f1, might lead to grab setups off his f1 on hit.
-Allow level 1 to be done forward and backward on inputting the direction (yes, that means truly a comboable super, and yes, his level 2 and 3 will become obsolete, but it would be still be okay for that to happen), if they wanted him to be even better give the startup on the super a bit of armor. That would be pushing it though.
-More shield “health” (it breaks from a full assault rifle from Radec, that’s just silly), OR, if a shield breaks, don’t put Daniel in a sitdown, instead make him able to move or attack or block immediately after it breaks, then low health on his shield makes for some interesting plays.
-The fish effect on throws, aka, if he throws someone, and they get hit away, and another character collides with the flying throw target, they get hit and lose the same amount of meter the throw victim did, OR, give him fully invincible throw animations so he can actually use them on FFA.
All of them at once would make him unbalanced (not in the “way too good” way, in the “too many bad tools and too many good ones too” way), but one or two little changes in this direction would give him some niches that dedicated hipsterish players would be eager to jump on. Right now the only ones maining Daniel aren’t low-tier heroes, the ones maining Daniel are Medievil fanboys and masochists.
His supers are indeed lacking though I think his Level 3 would still be viable and his partner can set up level 1/he can use it to punish.
Still, everything about Kratos’ moves are so solid that he surely must be very competitively viable in the same way someone in a regular fighter with godly footsies but maybe not the best combo potential is.

Has no one mention the fact that people can roll out of Coles level 1? even though you caught them in it…
This this and this. The shield is supposed to be a boon, not a possible passive window to getting combo’d or killed. Smart players who understand the shield mechanics and have the ability to break them quickly could all too easily take advantage of this. Characters that come to mind are the Coles, Radec, Dante, and Nathan. I plan on going into practice mode to see if any of them can actually hit confirm a shield break into supers (my guess right now is the Coles and Dante can do it into both their level 1’s and 2’s, Radec can do it into level 2, maybe level 1, and Nathan can do it into level 2, level 1 with very specific spacing). It depends on how quickly they recover from their projectile animations.
Honestly I’d say the shield only taking 3 hits isn’t necessarily underpowered. You get the AP from the projectile by absorbing it that the attacker normally would have. This is a huge boon to Daniel’s AP gain and enemy AP denial. Also, while any character with a rapid fire projectile (The 5 mentioned above) can break it quickly, many character’s can’t. Characters like Toro, mirror Daniels, and even Sackboy have a more difficult time breaking Daniel’s shield and will end up feeding him a lot of AP before they do so. Speaking of Sackboy, there’s another reason the buttdrop needs to be removed. Daniel already has the slowest movement in the game, and I need my shield to keep his projectiles at bay - add the buttdrop and that little bastard is damn near impossible to catch at all. I’d say a perfect shield would absorb 3 hits, cause no effect to Daniel on a break, and 1 last gripe: Pressing Circle with the shield active shouldn’t put it away, it should just pull out a new shield.
Confirmed, I am both of those.
wat
That’s just not true. Tested.
I think Sly and Ratchet can dodge SD’s level 1 point blank. They’re so short.
And I am a proud Sir Dan mainer. I’ve seen fairly good SD’s online. I feel like SP2 is the way to go. I can usually net 2-3 kills with it. But at the same time it really isn’t hard to dodge it either.
Sir Dan’s super 2 is really easy to dodge. They need to make the little beads travel a little faster if its going to be useful against good players.
Kratos can build his level 2 as fast (if not faster) than some other characters can build level 1, and he can combo into that or use it as a really easy tech trap. Kratos is good. Waaaaay good. Not that he’s unbeatable- bad Kratos will hit s.1 all day, and it’s just a matter of short hop air dodging through it and punishing him on landing.
That’s why I find it a little hard to judge Kratos. Yes I find him to be great (especially now that I took the time to use him in 5 minutes and see he has a comboable Level 1 no one seems to try >> ) but because although I see a Kratos in my match 80% of the time I very rarely see a GOOD Kratos. But the more I look at the character as a whole yeah I feel he should be the next one to receive slight nerfs, really just to AP build (or raise virtuallly every other character’s build) and the tracking chain grab.
And yes that is why I cannot take Sir Dan too seriously (which is disappointing because I really like a lot of his moves). His best Super for killing is one that people can simply air dodge to beat. I know it can be set up like every other super, but still.
My god, that damn move.
1v1, that move is free because you can predict it in a bad Kratos, but 2v2 or FFA, people just don’t have the wherewithall to dodge that yet. As a result, Kratos’s win without a single shred of knowledge about the game, and get to rather high ranks, because they’re just holding towards the baddie and mashing 1, which, if I recall, is how people who never play video games play smash day 1. However, in this game they’re rewarded for it. I find that just a bit unbalanced.
Also, last night I held an experiment. My housemate went on 2v2 online and played a bunch, and I watched and counted whenever Kratos did a f1, air or ground. I ended up changing it to whenever he did not do a f1, and it was very very rare, and almost always an up1 in the air.
This 100%. I agree completely. Smart Kratii (I guess? lol) in 2v2 will use their s.1 to interrupt nearly any combo or momentum you get started on their teammates. Kratos is one of the best 2v2 partners imo, and a Kratos&Sackboy/Evil Cole? Fugeddaboutit.
That said, I think it’s more of a flaw with how the game teaches people to play - it rewards a lot of nonsense online that crumbles in the face of players who are, at minimum, semi competent - I can’t tell you how many 300 + s.1 spamming Kratii and Level 1 tossing Raiden I’ve seen that were completely free, but they probably win a lot against random players who simply haven’t learned the game very well. We need a 1v1 mode!
Yeah. I dunno how it works 1v1 and if I have a bad Kratos isolated I can start punishing it and such but I do not see why it just has so many properties on that one move. Having their forward poke and highly consistent anti-air on the same button just seems absurd (it’s like if Jak could OS his Blaster and Peace Maker if they jump or not except he builds 50 more or so AP with both options too).
As a Jak player my main objective is building to level 3 while interrupting players with my mobility to prevent them from getting enough AP to kill more than my Lv3. This is an incredibly difficult task at the moment with Kratos not only because he builds it so quickly, but because if you do not pick the perfect time to jetboard in or find near max range with Blaster and interrupt him or else he can just turn around and chain and reset his combo on you (also all his moves that cover both sides of him, especially in the air, make this near impossible if Kratos knows you are coming OR is just spamming the spinny airchains).
I do not even want to think about the fact that in his S.1, Kratos pretty much has around the same interruptive power that Jak does in his whole arsenal which is meant SOLELY for that purpose…it makes me sad.
I think we’re all in agreement here s.1 is a ridiculously good move lol. Personally I’d like to see the game develop a bit more (coughcough1v1 mode online pleasecoughcough) before proclaiming anything as OP, but Kratos is undeniably really good, probably the best in the game atm, partcularly with Sackboy’s nerfs. I really don’t want to see Kratos get nerfed too heavily though - instead I want SuperBot to give other characters buffs to even up the cast. I think only a few characters in the game at the moment are in dire need of this (Sir Dan, Jak, etc.)
Imagine if Jak had some super armor on his j.s.1…Or better yet, I would settle if his moves built more than 5 AP a pop
Edit: Actually, on second thought, I don’t think Jak is in desperate need of buffs, but having more AP gain would make his level 2 much more viable - at the moment it feels to expensive to pass up for the guaranteed kills off the level 3 instead of getting 1 (2 if you’re lucky) kill off of a tech chase.
The more I play Jak the better I think he is too. He could use a little more AP gain or a slight buff to his Lv1 and Lv2 supers but that is about it. He really is solid in his role as a 2v2 character, building just enough AP to Level 3 or a few 1s and a 2 but primarily a)never being killed himself and b) constantly thwarting the opponent his partner is not comboing from doing anything so that it results in a) his partner getting AP really easily (man he’s great with a Dante or dare I say it Kratos) and b) having his opponents never get enough AP to compete. Have you seen footage of pre-release Jak at his height Grace? It’s absurd true, but why even after nerfing most of his tools and AP in the last two weeks of development they removed GravityxxLv1 I will never know.
For me I think that it really is Sir Dan. Even if his normals are underrated the name of the game is Super kills and he just cannot compete there. His shield break leaving him prone to combos when it is supposed to be one of his greatest assets is also an issue.
If I had to throw out another name I’d say um…I dunno. This game really is a lot more balanced than people give it credit for and it looks like because of 2-3 prime offenders. Reminds me a lot of early SFxT.
how is sweet tooth doing?
