Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Announced

Pretty good actually, starting up combos with short hop -> aerial down X is so good. Even with his Banana setups and popup launcher (down x).

Sounds awesome. My work apparently had a mini-tournament for it today before playing their turkey bowl but I didn’t wake up in time. I really wanted to try him. lol.

And hopefully this means a new Ape Escape game for PS3 or Vita (one can hope. I fucking love Ape Escape.)

So how does the game fair from a competitive standpoint? I admit I haven’t really been following it’s development at all. The only thing I really know about it is that only supers can KO someone, which seemed odd.

Do you guys think it will be a competitively viable game or just a party game (which isn’t a bad thing)?

When the game becomes 1v1, people become much more turtle-y and hit and run. It’s also much more difficult to land lvl 1 supers. Of course you want to build meter and prevent the opponent from doing so. Matches become much longer when this happens. I think this is why everyone is pushing 2v2 for this game. If one person dies, the remaining partner will most likely get swept and the match will remain fairly short.

If we start to see people turtle for long periods of time, which I’m sure we’ll see on occasion, I think the game won’t fare well.

I think most people are turtling because of unfamiliarity with the game and it being hard to land level 1 supers is mostly because people don’t know combos or setups yet. There’s plenty of ways characters can combo into or set up a level 1, some characters have really good level 2’s for that or just in general, people just don’t know yet. There’s no reason Heihachi, Raiden, Dante, Big Daddy, Parappa, Spike, or Sweet Tooth should be turtling, and besides the obvious turtle characters, most characters don’t play a 100% turtle game either.

So how exactly does guarding work? I heard there are sweeps so is there a low guard or are they just moves that knock opponents down? I know it depends heavily on the attacks but can you block a string of attacks and then retaliate a la a Fighter, and/or get a free throw after blocking somethings a la Smash bros?

Infinite protection = whenever you gain 100 AP from a combo it auto ejects them and gives you 30 bonus AP.

Anyone else think that Sly Cooper and Raiden are in desperate need of some balance tweaks?

Drake - Mid range barrel combos into level 1. Up throw combos into free level 2. Level 3 is usually 2 kills in 1v1.

The rest of his kit is monstrous and if you can land supers he is terror.

For being too good or too bad? I’m real interested in playing Sly, but probably will never touch Raiden.
I had some general questions about balance but I feel it is way too early to start that discussion right?

Too good. I’ve seen Sly Cooper players stay completely invisible and pop out of nowhere and start attacking people, and Raiden’s pressure is ridiculous.

Once people start finishing their combos and finding more solid setups for their supers, you’ll see matches get a LOT faster. Level 1 supers are intentionally harder to land, meaning you have to make a good read or land a slow crumple hit like Kratos’ fully charged D+Circle. Most characters can reach lvl2 super in 2-3 combos, then you just need one more opening because lvl2 supers tend to much easier to combo into than lvl1 supers.

Also that 2v1 situation you described doesn’t exist in Kill Limit mode, which guarantees a true 2v2 match all the way through. That’s why i think Kill Limit is much better suited for 2v2 format than Stock. But 2v2 matches tend to be much faster in general because two players who work together can do very mean things, not to mention there are twice as many targets to kill.

Raiden can combo his level 1 extremely easily…unless I’m missing something his side+square from a throw or naked will lead to free level 1?

I was using Sly, won nearly every FFA match. Made the switch to Nariko and its a challenge. Though her air combos are pretty sweet and build great AP.

If anyone wants to 2v2, 1v1 or FFA here’s my psn

I’m still learning but trying to nail down an effective spike offense.

I spend most of my time 1v1 or 2v2. JZombie24 is my PSN if anyone wants to play some matches.

I’m looking at maining Sir Dan, still messing around with him in training.

Sent ya a friend request, looking to stay with spike as my guy. He has some fun short combos with his boomerang that are fun to mix up with.

I’ll add you guys. Looking for some 1v1 sometime.

Has anyone played this game in addition to a DS title called Jump! Ultimate Stars? Wondering if anyone felt any similarities. I’d also bring up the DS title Draglade but I think that is much further of a stretch.

Is there any other place to talk for this game? Like a newer thread or even a subforum somewhere?
