Is it better to play a game you really like and try to play it as to as high a level as you possibly can, even if you have very few people or no one to play with?
Or is it better to play a game everyone is playing so you can get some regular competition even if you don’t particularly like the game?
Personally, even without competition I’d rather play with a smaller group of people in an unpopular game I enjoy, rather than play a game I don’t really like because it has a lot of people playing it.
Pick whatever option you’d have fun with, I guess :looney:
I can enjoy a game greatly but if there is nobody around for me to play it with then I don’t really get a chance to play it much. I will also play a game that I only mildly like if I have somebody to play it with and have fun.
Well there was a time i used to play because of comp even if i had to play a game i disliked (zero3 3rd strike kof98) in the end i gave it up and went back to stuff i really enjoyed even if it means nobody will play you at the stuff you like, the bottem line is what are you playing for?
To me unless it’s making you a living you should just enjoy yourself and play whatever you like whever you have 0 or 500 people to play, after all it’s a game there’s far more important things in life
Seriously, there are lots of people playing Chun’ in 3S who don’t actually like the game. If you want to be able to perform well, but don’t really want to invest a lot of time in to learning the system, she’s a great go-to character.
Ken falls in this category too. You just need some basic footsies skills and simple mixups to make him dangerous.
As for the question of the topic, I started playing 3s because it’s the most played game here (in France), I did not like the game at first but it’s starting to grow on me. However, if the most played game was soulcalibur or kof then I would be playing tetris instead.
You should play a game because you like it and not because it has more people playing it/more popular.
Kind of like jobs. Do you want to work a job that you hate just because it pays well/established name? Or do you want to work a job you love even if it doesn’t pay as much or have as big a name?
Well it’s a little different for jobs, since working is an obligation (for most people). When you play a game it’s only because you get a pleasure of some kind when you play it. Choosing a game and choosing a job are 2 different things.
Competition is very important in fighting games. Playing a great fighting game is pointless if your only competition is the CPU. I think most people can and will play a game because it has competition even if it’s not their favorite game, as long as they like it a little at least. For example even if you’re not playing your favorite SF, it’s still SF… it’s not like you’re forcing yourself to play a completely different game (ie. a wargame, a FPS…).
not necessarily. i have fun competing so ive picked up competitive games even some i hate. but as long as i was playin and winning or playing someone good ive always had fun. but when youre playing a game competitively just to boost your ego and start losing but still considering yourself great is when you shouldnt be playing.
I play cs1.6 cause im good at it, and cause it’s fun. If i played source instead, i’d be making a hell of alot more money out of it, cause it’s an easier game. But 1.6 is more fun for me, so i’m sticking with it.
Well no duh dude answering the questions posed tells you what you have fun doing. If you like competeing and thats where you find the most fun then you just might have to pick up a game you may not like much but gives great comp but if you don’t mind playing alone then play a game you think is the most fun to play.
Just playing and playing competivly for fun are two diffrent things. When playing alone your just playing. When playing competitivly your not really playing the game. Your playing your opponent.
The question is what do you have MORE fun doing. Its a simple question I didn’t think it had to be spelled out honestly. I figured you would all be smart enough to figure that part on your own but i guess some of you need it explained.
I would say a little of both works. For example, I hate 3s, but I can and will play it if there is no one else to fight on other machines. Thankfully, marvel is so awesome that it will be played for years to come.
The thing is, playing good comp helps tremendously.
