Man, i’ve been playing this fucking game for two years.
considering how broken this game becomes online, it’s actually amazing people can put up with it for so long.
Cool. Thanks guys.
It’s like Applejacks. We just like it.
The salt fuels us.
It’s exciting and unique, it may not always be fun and despite how broken it is (even more broken when players like Claw are present since their lag seems to actually negatively impact the overall room) there’s always that thought “what coulda been”
I know every time I load the god damn disc I feel like “it couldn’t possibly get any worse, could it?” and it gets worse every single time. It’s both frustrating and hilarious.
Last night weegee and I spartan defense’d inside quicksand and it insta-filled our rampage meter. It basically hit our shields 30-40 times before closing so I’m thinking you might be able to tank dragon flamethrower, enlightenment array, microwave array, all for rampage meter. Needs to be tested.
How did he tank it, and how do you tank those?
Also, it never gets worse for me, not much seems to change whenever I jump back in.
A few fresh faces, but that’s about it.
Only thing that actually legit makes me mad in this game are lag Bayos.
spartan defense
What the hell is that?
It’s a 2P guard in tag deathmatch and tag battle, both you and your partner hold guard and a massive impenetrable shield surrounds both of you. It can block almost everything, poison gas and ballistic missiles still penetrate it for some reason though.
and don’t forget, rampage chip damage can still get past the barrier & the barrier itself can be broken with enough force (though i don’t remember whether it happened bc 2 people on rampage, some bayo on charge attacker, or due to lag).
Nahh Spartan Defense can hold off 6 simultaneous rampages if it needed to, my running theory was that the CA Bayo managed to wedge the H-H-Hc in between both players, pushing them far enough apart that they couldn’t hold up the Spartan Defense anymore. That, and lag. ._.
Oh, that.
Didn’t know we had a name for it, and I didn’t know it was that useful.
Small update to the guide revision I’ve been working on, SLOWLY WORKING ON. Update mostly focuses on jack + barons section, small fixes everywhere else.
Any of you have that one character that you just cant wrap your head around.
A character(s) where even though you know the combos, and the move traits, and the attacks and all of that, you just cant seem to pull any high numbers online?
Nikolai just doesn’t flow for me, for some reason.
Garuda, Max, and Jack are similar, but I either do amazing or horrible with them. Rarely an “ok” match, even with Jack it’s either straight up online destruction or frustrating struggling.
It’s all in how you approach the character, some playstyles are just less suited for certain mindsets. I can’t play female characters because I’m too used to AAc now that when I play females, I try to AAc and just get the empty jump cancel they have naturally and I let the combo drop.
It’s like how I used to have trouble with Zero until literally yesterday in CM with Fear because I was so used to not using TC as Douglas that I didn’t really implement it when I switched over to Zero. Once I did we were back in business.
As for Nikolai, you just need to know that his jab and shift are a LOT better than pretty much everyone else’s. That shift is just pure magic. Throw in a Twitch Launcher and proceed with the combo.
Ohh, and please make note of the “pretty much” I put in there. He’s still Nickels after all.
Jack and Nikolai are similar in playstyle and execution. Nikolai just has more tools. They both have issues finishing people off due to their combos either being incredibly basic or incredibly difficult to use. (lkw cancels, twitches, aacancels)
- Good, fast dash attack for shield damage
- Good charge HKW’s (killjoy is even slightly viable on nickels even though he wont 1-shot very often, his blitzes have lots of range)
+Fast Shift Weak (you can AAc out of this), also doubles as space creation with guard cancelling. - Nikolai isn’t forced into lean extender like Jack is, dash attack doubles as mobility (not as fast as LE twitching, obv) I thought this was pretty important to note.
- Electric element over fire element, despite 6 characters being electric you can still follow up with something fairly easily even against a character with the same element. Power Leveler is a good choice.
- Standing jab (non lean) comes out at a speed that rivals barons, zeros, and jacks jab speed. Nikolais jab set is actually pretty good.
- HKW glitch with hardknockdown (Nikolais best combo is literally H-AA-LKWx2-Glitch HKW because it guarantees a cutscene as opposed to adding another anti air and two air weaks, won’t cutscene so you get less overall damage.
-air HKW, HKW and blitz HKW all glitch out in lag for less damage. Hurray!
-Slow anti air (trouble linking things like W-W-W-AAc)
- Trouble breaking shield even with cancels n stuff.
- Trouble putting out overall enough damage for easy kill combos (basically your opponent needs to be below 60% which means they are already playing a bit more defensive, not good)
Aside from those notes you basically have to play as aggressively smart as you can. Don’t just YOLO air HKW or killer weapon strings. Try and be the best basic electric marshmallow man you can be.

Fear you have Abandoned Mine as a Kraken location in your guide update. Just so you know to fix it.
welp thx dz it’ll be fixed in the next update. so kraken-san is only spawning in 3 levels. Not sure why I thought it was 4 at the time of writing.
