It was Ranma’s choice to team up with PZ/Emogear. Look at it this way; Ranma ended up footing the bill on one of the last Texas Showdowns…he needed support and sponsorship. PZ was willing to do that. Sponsorship. Unfortunately, it takes more captial to run a larger even like Showdown now.
Texas Showdown isn’t trying to be another U.S.-themed tournament where you play the same games for the umpteenth time, with the same format.
It’s now Showdown Championships, whether we like it or not. I know the consensus of the SRK community is pretty sour grapes with Emogear, but you’re forgetting the actual guy who is in charge/responsible for anything related to Texas Showdown/Showdown Championships…Ranma.
I know he doesn’t care about what you guys think, in terms of his reputation, because there will always be tournament support (even if out-of-towners boycott it).
I only speak as a friend who understands why Ranma chose up to team with PZ/Emogear a while back.
Personally I think it’s messed up that the top team isn’t actually going, but a 2 players and a PZ rep is, and I sympathize with Zinac not being allowed to go with his original team.
I’m sure there’s the argument that they wanted the strongest possible team to attend, and not be a regular squash match at SBO. Besides that, there are other possible reasons, but who knows, besides the PZ/TS staff.
Remember it’s a business, and PZ used its business connections to gain a spot…nobody else was going to freely “give” one out to the U.S.
That’s bullshit, sure it’s business, but businesses need to be accountable for their actions. They didn’t gain a spot, they stole a spot from a qualifying player. Can anything be done about it legally? Probably not, but it’s still bullshit.
Don’t try to use the ‘it’s a business’ line to justify an outright scam.
People from Mainland come to qualify in Okinawa. It happens all the time. In the end you’re not representing the arcade you come from. That has shit to do with it. Otherwise they would only allow people from the region they LIVE IN to qual in that area’s region qualifier.
And according to SBO rules IIRC if a member of your team CAN’T go for any reason you have 2 choices, either play with one less player at SBO, or give the qual spot to the 2nd place team.
SBO could enforce that the player who was on the winning team be the one to play.
SBO could take the spot away forever including this year and just have another japanese qualifier or last chance qualifier.
even if they say that he must go there is nothing to say that PZ has to support that decision and Zin could be forced to pay his own way to japan including hotel and such.
Unfortunately, that rule doesn’t apply in this case since they have not yet been told who won the tournament. Since the deadline is June 30th and SBO staff has no idea who won, Emogear can decide who was on the “winning team” and the staff wouldn’t even know.
if the players who love their game so much don’t want to corrupted by this mother fucker they need to man up and together deal with this and as a community talk to SBO directly weather it be through choi or otherwise.
My thoughts exactly, it’s unfortunate that players are the mercy of assholes who want to impose their own interests on pure competition. In the old days the promoters and the players were kinda on the same level, but now promoters have gotten some new level of power that allows for this kinda shit…honestly Tougeki ought to be contacting the players rather than the promoter, they should have a unbiased ‘proctor’ attending these events and recording the information.
I understand it’s supposed to be Emogear, but it’s clear that he can’t be trusted.
I’d boycott the mofo, but he’s going to get SFIV for PZ and I really want to play that. But as soon as SFIV releases on consoles I’ll never bother going again.
And King, if the guy wanted to put together the “strongest team” he could’ve stuck, say, FlashMetroid and Marn in there - they entered the qualifier. He seems to think if he keeps the actual winning team with one exception, it’s somehow OK.
And I will say this once again: I, and many other Guilty Gear players, would rather have no SBO spot than one determined by a scam tournament.
