Want me to tell you all what its really about I believe?? Ranma is part of PZ Staff I believe, KING is good friends with Ranma, who also helps Emotiongear…so you are hearing more than just KING’s POV possibly what I believe he’s possibly being influenced… Remember Flash, we are in Texas…
(KING=DFW, Me=Denton)
And I personally think Ranmas a cool cat and I am trying to stay out of this shit since it is dividing the line between friends and enemies in Texas… and I thought like Arturo said to me that it would be a good idea to buddy up with Emogear for the SNK support etc because he’s loaded (Proof Thai you dont know a goddamn thing what you are talking about!)…but as me and Arturo see, this guy is NO GOOD.
Yeah I was just addressing the stupid point KING and other people brought up. But yeah you’re right, it just makes no sense to replace a player with who they think is stronger.
None of this drama surprises me in the least. EVERY North American arcade owner I’ve ever known has been a shady ass motherfucker.
I know the guy who owned Ace Arcade down here in London was dodging taxes and shit and was generally an asshole.
A lot of you people defending Emogear/PZ sound like a bunch of sellouts trying to play up semantic bullshit.
I agree with Aion… what’s the point of having a team tournament if you’re going to break them up if they’re not from Texas? People would have saved the trouble of going to this tournament if they were clearly aware of that fact (not small print that hardly anyone reads).
You might as well stated off the bat, “NO TEXAS OUTSIDERS ALLOWED IN OUR TOURNAMENTS”. That’s pretty much what PZ is saying.
oh yes i do. keep dreaming that this is some conspiracy theory shit, kiddo.
oh shut the fuck up. i’m not biased towards either side at the moment, since i can see where both sides have their arguments. i’m not blind.
you’re an uncle tom as anyone here in Texas would know. stick to just drooling on the sidelines, outside PZ’s door when your beloved SNK games hit the streets.
nope i’m not. i speak my own mind. i could care less what others think of me. back on topic, please.
Texas people need to realize that in the long run we are better off with a console scene than with this shady motherfucker running things.
Any competitive game needs to be fucking NAZI-LIKE when it comes to even the slightest rumors of dishonesty, much less actual deeds. Look at how vigilant sports are toward betting on games…hell, in baseball they wouldn’t even allow certain retired players at functions because they worked at casinos. While that particular case was excessive, it’s better to err on the side of caution in this instance; all you need is one or maybe two incidents like this to tarnish the reputation of the entire fighting-game community. And that sort of image can take years, maybe decades to rehabilitate.
Hi everyone! We have what is called an ad hominem argument.
Let’s refute Marn’s points here. I’ve got an HTML file called “My Documents/AIMLogger/arlieth/IM Logs/thatguymarn.html” that I’m reading off of. Every time Marn has messaged me, it was to request help (plane tickets, hotel rooms, translators, etc). I’ll post a snippet of the last conversation that we had.

THAT guy Marn (12:52:15 AM): crow wanted to know
Wow, I totally forgot you tried to pin it on Crow. You know, the whole log is pretty funny and makes you look like a dork. I could post it (including your ineptitude) in its entirety, it’d probably make for a great Alpha-ISM show and Bunkei owes me for prank-calling me on Christmas.
Oh, wait, wait.
THAT guy Marn (12:58:54 AM): but im being so serious
THAT guy Marn (12:58:56 AM): you dont understand
THAT guy Marn (12:58:59 AM): how much i’ve been googling
THAT guy Marn (12:59:04 AM): “How to get laid in Japan”
As for the incident in Japan, it was 2005? I forgot what year I went to Japan. We were all asked to say something to the Japanese audience at the end. As a joke/dare from a friend of mine, during our interview as Team USA, I yelled out,
??? Ore no ikizama wo… misete yaru ze!
To be honest, I don’t even know exactly what it means, except that it’s a smack-talk line straight out of a comic book. The audience had a pretty good laugh at it. :V
Of course, that was like, three years ago and I never had any fallout from it, either from that trip or my subsequent trip a year afterwards, with any of the players or the organizers like Matsuda(Game Newton) and Yamagichi?(Beat Tribe).
Anyways, the primary reason I was concerned was because of a Shibuya incident that occurred between players in 2006 that could’ve landed us in a Japanese jail cell. Fortunately it was resolved, but my primary concern was to make sure we’d still be able to get a spot next year, and by that, I mean by not acting like idiots.
Arlieth (12:57:31 AM): because you are going to japan to represent the US in GGXX
Arlieth (12:57:43 AM): not so you can fulfill some otaku fantasy of getting a japanese g/f
In any case, in the rest of the log I actually implicitly trusted Emotiongear’s judgment in keeping you out of trouble, but I notified him via email that you’d be up to something like this. You can’t blame IRC, or Crow, or anyone else about all of that. How this relates to Planet Zero’s non-standard interview policy for an SBO team, I have no idea. But it says a lot about your character, Marn.
Or a new arcade run by people we trust?? Coming to an Austin, TX near you this summer!
Believe you me, not every TX person is thrilled with how PZ has handled SBO stuff. Still, Emotiongear is an okay guy in person for the most part, PZ is a pretty nice arcade, and it’s pretty much the only real arcade option for a lot of TX peeps… for now. And as much as people say “it’d be better for us to play on consoles,” you know that deep down inside… we’d prefer an arcade over console if we had the option.
Not defending all the stuff that’s going on here… just saying, there’s a cost for everything. Some TX people are caught between a rock and a hard place as far as PZ is concerned.
Destroyed!!! Let Also Add This To The Mix. He Also Cried At Final Round Cuz His E-gurl Left Him… Hold Them Tears Back Marn, Hold Them Back… Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! hey arlieth tralare you drop the http://youtube.com/watch?v=jmbmPalsRi4
By the way, for the record, I actually am not against the idea of an interview. However, an interview process needs to be transparent to the public (unless all players agreed to keep it confidential if there was any private or personal information discussed during the interview). The PZ decision, on the other hand, seems to have taken advantage of the situation under this premise of character review, with no guidelines, transparency, or summary statements of decision as to why that conclusion was reached.
An interview process, if used, is to protect the integrity of the community. Instead, it has only raised more questions about the impartiality and the politics of the qualifiers as a whole. If it wasn’t for Choi working as hard as he has been behind the scenes for our community, SBO in the United States would be non-existent. What upsets me the most about this incident here is that, as a representative of the United States, it makes Choi’s future relationship with SBO that much harder to deal with.
