Lucas has an amazing upsmash, it’s hitbox is huge! Ness finally has killing power in his yo-yo and landing his bAirs is still insanely satisfying. I prefer using the Lucas “branch swing” over the Ness “bat swing” simply because of the lower start up time. Sure, the bat does more damage, but anyone who’s played Lucas knows that the branch still packs a lot of heat. PK Thunder on Lucas is way easier than it is on Ness. The fact that the turning radius on the shot is tighter makes recovery 10x easier.
Yea, Lucas is pretty awesome.
I need to learn combos for Lucas, and Ness, too.

Our resident PK Users Lucas and Ness are similar but what they can and will accomplish and their goals are completely different.
Ness has to get kills fast and his move set caters to that. PK Thunder and Flash accomplish this quite well.
But Lucas has to pick his spots. But he can hang if the right person is handling him. Unlike Ness, Lucas has a lot of tools to shake the haters so he can get into prime position to kill.
Best ways to crack open Smash Balls:
Ness’ PK Thunder (Normal and Ness Projectile), Air Forward+A and PK Flash
Lucas’ A-Air AKA the PK Screw Flip and PK Freeze
Other shit:
Lucas’ PK Thunder does the most damage on the last hit. Be sure to make that shit count. Mainly in 4 Player Brawls. Pile that damage on.
Lucas’ Tap Up+A Pure Nastiness. Hits around him and a can hit about a full character away. So abuse that shit. One of the ways to keep Lucas safe. And the best one by the way.
Don’t forget about the Lucas’ PSI Magnet. Can also be used as an attack as well as eating those projectiles.
Ness does one thing well…Damage and lots of it. In some cases twice as much as Lucas can. But speed, control, and some fluidity are the things Ness gives up in trade. So train with his PK Thunder cause it’s his best friend. And his best way to do damage fast. And gives him needed mobility when used correctly. And being able to take a hit or 2 doesn’t hurt either.
This is just a little taste of what the Mother characters can do.

A few questions regarding Lucas:
Overall, in my grand search to find a main, I’m really looking to try Lucas in a higher sense. He seems competitively viable (i.e. not low tier), and he’s quite fun to use IMO. I can’t guarantee that he’ll be my main yet, but still, it doesn’t hurt to try characters out.
Okay, so I’ve been playing Lucas online and I’ve noticed a few things. He’s neutral A in the air is killer. I’ve chained that a bunch of times. Throw in an instant dash attack and it’ll send people flying.
I much prefer to stand back and lob PK Freezes at people and PK Thunder snake smashballs. Lucas shines in 4 player but I think in a 1v1 Scenario I’d pick Ness, Yoyo comes out faster also in two parts. You can setup a PK Cloud KO after someone gets back from the edge or use it to keep them from UP+B’ing their way onto the stage.
This is my first smash game so I’ll keep playing around and report in if I find anything.
Found something unique with Ness (don’t know if this is old or not): His Back Aerial is like Snake’s in that his entire body is the hit box. Also, he also has that insanely quick down tilt (I think it’s faster than Lucas’s!). I’m guessing Ness is much better than he was in Melee, but still not as good as in 64. Unlike in Melee, I’m actually kinda interested in the Mother characters now. I just have to learn how to PK Thunder recover in tight situations.
So what I’ve been using with Lucas is Neutral A in the air then his AAA combo followed by an IDA smash. On larger people you can just jump a, fast fall, jump a, over and over for obscene amounts of damage.
Ness has combos that work almost exactly as they did in smash 64, Jump in Dair followed by Uair fucks my friend up all the time, we’re building quite a rivalry with our
Ness vs Lucas battles. I need ways to get around his Up and down smashes though, I find bringing him into the air is the best way to do this, but Lucas’ neutral air move is fucking annoying.
So I “Give 'em a back-kick*”
*I guess you can call it an in-joke or meme that my friend started. Most characters have a back air kick and… ah you get the picture.
Ness fair is good to combo someone stuck in a DI float
bair is good to KO at decent percentages
wavebounce pk fire seems really good with Lucas for runaway
I think Ness and Lucas should have seperate threads as they’re very different characters, but whatever. Ness’s downb has a bit of knockback when you release it. It can send catchable projectiles at weird angles. Ness’s dair and uair autocancel. It’s really obvious with his dair as it has a ton of lag if you stay in the air the entire time. I think nair also autocancels but I’m not sure.
B-sticking seems useful for Lucas, doesn’t do much for Ness.
Hey everyone. Lucas is probably my best char right now so here are some things yall should know:
Short hop PK fire approach owns. Short hopping eliminates lag on the pk fire so you can follow it up with whatever.
And Zap jumping is a very powerful technique. Watch [media=youtube]2q7RqH1Lfu4"[/media] The way to execute it is to use PK fire and second jump at the same time. The easiest way to do this is to assign an unused button like the L trigger to special, the use X/Y to jump. I hope that made sense.
Lucas’ bair is a spike if you time it correctly.
I have some common Lucas BS. If any of it sounds retarded, it’s because it’s 2:30 AM and I have AIDs.
nair > utilt/(possible uair if you’re in the air. I don’t know if this is 100%)
dtilt > fsmash - I really like this one. I’m not sure if it’s really even a combo or not, but it’s worked for me every time I’ve done it. It justs feels weird, because it looks like your opponent has time to get out of it.
short hopped fairs are godlike.
short hopped pk fires are godlike, like somebody mentioned. And if you fastfall… uh… faster, you can fake pk fire. Lucas will make the sound and everything, but nothing will come out. I guess this could be used to psyche people out. O_o Either that, or you just whiffed a pk fire.
And then there’s his Thunder, which has limitless possibilities. Note that the head does knockback, and the tail does a lot more damage. Don’t be afraid to abuse this, if you’re at a reasonable distance, because the whole point is to flip it around in the air, and limit your opponent’s movements. I wouldn’t recommend shooting it straight at somebody, unless they’re really far away or you’re just a crazy asshole. It goes without saying, don’t give your opponent enough time to catch up to you while you’re in recovery.
PSI Magnet as an attack is iffy for me. It looks like you just tap the move, and then it hits. I’m not sure, though. It has amazing horizontal knockback, but I found it hard to connect. But I kind of suck, so Iduno.
Watch out for mario’s fludd while you’re recovering. That move is pretty much useless, aside from that it gimps the hell out of Ness and Lucas’s recoveries. Mario hates small children.
Special stuff:
Up taunt is super fast, and awesome. Abuse this.
Watch out for Falcon’s final smash. Falcon likes to use this on Ness and Lucas, because he likes running over children with his car.
dair into utilt into usmash. This is so my B&B with Lucas. I usually just get one kill with this and run away the entire fight.
Ness’s bat can reflect projectiles, which is pretty sweet.
same with Lucas’s. Fun to use against a pikmin spamming Olimar.
So I’m going to be maining Lucas, and I just wanna know, what aerial I should be using the most. Because I’ve been using FAIR the most.
I’m no expert, but it seems like fair and nair are his best aerial attacks.
I think we should start a separate thread for Lucas since he and Ness are so different?
