Pittsburgh: We got balls for days!

Ya I think the big two should be about that much (20) that def sweetens the pot and makes things interesting, did ranbats have a venue fee?if so how much and should we stay at that rate? Speaking of venue where are we playing at ha

Venue fee was a mere $3, basically a donation right to CMUken. Obviously a real tournament would be way more, though how much more should probably be determined by how many people we expect.

As for a venue, beats me. :-/ I don’t know the greater Pittsburgh area well enough.

$5 venue + $15 or $20/game, maybe?

also, corey, do you know how many setups we would have from gameon?
i could also lend a 360 and lagless monitor if needed, although jago’s in possession of it at the moment and i need to find out when he’s coming back to pittsburgh so i can get it back

and would this be on cmu campus?

32 would be optimistic for each game. How much money do you guys need?

We’re meeting this Saturday at CMU in the Danforth room at the University Center building. From 7:00pm to midnight. Get in there.

Can we pull 32 for every game that would be amazing

If everyone wanted to drop money on every game they’re familiar with we could probably get around 15-20 just from the regulars. COME ON POT MONSTERS. I know you’re here!

I’ll even be willing to be one of those guys for AE, and everyone can watch my stunningly bad Makoto or my somehow even worse Cody.

I am going to speak to game on today about how many they can supply,he saiid they have ample setups esp ih the 360 dept, and from what I would assume it would be easier if the event was held at cmu question is would we have enough people for a two day event or would we be able to get the venue for two days even?

If 32 people per game is our goal, I don’t think that warrants two days. With enough setups and efficient bracket running (we can’t just have poor Herb and Jason chasing people down) we could get through the brackets in a day, I would imagine.

It’s tricky, since you don’t wanna plan for one day then have a crapass load of people show up, but you don’t wanna schedule two days and barely get more competitors than a big ranbat (for us).

For reference, in our last Ranbat, we pulled in 17 people for AE. And this was during the summer, too. If this tournament happens during the school year, I think we could probably get 20-ish for at least AE and UMvC3.

I also agree that we could probably run 4 32-man brackets in a day provided that we have most of that day. Our Ranbats was from 8pm to 1am. If we had noon to midnight and more efficient bracket running, I think finishing 4 games in a day is totally reasonable.

What about bringing people outside from other communities? If we do that it might be feasible to make it to 40 man brackets for AE or marvel.

I’d think bringing people from far and wide would be what we really wanna do with this, the question is what can we do/offer to make people say “Hey, that looks worth my time” and “Hey, that tournament in Pittsburgh was fucking godlike.”

Yeah I definitely hope we can bring in the Cleveland, Columbus, and Buffalo people.

As for what we can offer… uh… maybe some special events? Do some team battles, hype it up, put on some luchadore masks, and put on a good show?

if there were hot girls, everybody would come running!

but that’d be a lie if we were hosting this at cmu

also, are we paying game on for providing set ups at all?

It all depends on whether we can get enough donated setups. If we can’t, I guess we have no choice but to. Also need to keep in mind the amount of consoles that we have will speed up the tournament

Ok I got some info from game on,now money wise to reserve their setups which he said they have 20 xboxs and he said he couuld get enough games for the setups it will be all together about $400 now the catch is that its 400 if we run the event at his lan center and his max capacity is 50,it sounds like we may have more so for them to use their mobile unit it will be 600 and we could have it at cmu, sooooo where do we go from here?now I spoke to him about the pot and he said he likes to put 40 percent back into the pot of whatever he gets so feedback is def needed asap

well holy shit.

So, if I understand correctly, $400 for lan center at max of 50 people, $600 for mobile unit where we can run at cmu. We get to use about 20 consoles and I’m assuming monitors as well.
About 40% of the $400 or $600 will go back into the pot.
Assuming about 50 unique people, we’d need a venue fee of about $8 to $12 to break even.

By ourselves we could probably scrape together about 10 setups, we have 6 monitors, 4 360s and a ps3. I have an evo monitor and a ps3 as well. Hopefully we can scrape together 3 more lagless monitors and 6 or so 360s from the community.

Though, I’d like to work with Game On if only for the publicity and maybe reaching new people. Any way we can use less stuff for less money?

I have a evo monitor that I’ll be bringing up. I think I could borrow Kyle’s 360 and possibly his evo monitor as well. How big are the brackets at console combat? We could probably do something similar and just have it as a day tournament sort of thing. Also jason we also have CRTs but those are last resort things. Also that used 360 that you’re getting.

Also keep in mind copies of games is important. We could always split different games to another system like say p4a and vf on ps3 or something like that

Money.

To save money/have bigger pot bonuses the best way to do it would be at CMU. If you get enough people on board to provide set-ups and get more time set aside than your typical Thursday evenings to run it then a 3 or 4 game tourney is very possible. I’d be willing to throw money into this thing as long as it happens on a day I could attend.
