Glad I’m not the only one. This is the reason Dhalsim is one of the (very) few characters I cannot play in SFIV. I simply cannot keep the two seperate. I try to anti-air with back-jab and shit.
I posted this on facebook for julian cause he asked people’s opinions on specific changes:
Ryu: Fake fireball is fucking. stupid. Julien Beasley and I think he is the best character in the game hands down with this chang…e. It takes the mind out of mindgames and is just stupid. It’s made even stupider IMO by the fact you can buffer super with it and it’s very low risk to just… do that.
Ken: Strong dp becoming 1-hit is good. I can’t comment on the added invulnerability. I feel like he didn’t need it because jab dp is godly and so is fierce but I am not a ken player. Reduced range on knee bash is nice as it’s still useable but the match is almost guaranteed over off one knee bash. Fierce DP larger arc seems unnecessary but again I am not a seasoned ken player. Always knocking down is totally a cool change.
Guile: RH flash kick with the crazy range is pretty cool, but I am biased because I like guile. I sure hate fighting him. Not sure that he really needed it but I don’t think it’s gamebreaking. His new super motion is too easy though, it’s practically just a flash kick! I don’t really like that change. Overhead is cool, since guile has short throw range I suppose it’s fair. It’s not too hard to react to but just fast enough to keep people on their toes.
Honda: Improved jump short is great, improved neutral fierce is great. Undecided on the ochio change because I liked how if honda ochio’d me near the corner he would put himself IN the corner and I could escape. Now that doesn’t happen. Easier hands is one of the few dumbing-down-execution I can vibe with. Now… jab headbutt. If you want me to truly write my opinions about jab headbutt I will need more time than I have. This is quite possibly the worst change in the game. Sooooo fucking dumb. Maybe 2nd place next to fake fireball.
Blanka: His changes are all good. I’m not sure that he really needed buffs to every single move he had, though. I never thought he was a bad character. I have a personal hangup against him because he jumps so fucking fast and his jumpins are so varied and godlike. I mained him for only a week and I was fucking wrecking shop. Blanka’s cheap. XD
Zangief: I like every single zangief change except for the extended-to-the-ground hitbox on PP lariat. Perhaps Nate can offer an (unbiased? :D) reason why I should be okay with that. I understand it’s really hard to get in on Guile and Sim because of their beastly low pokes but uh… both these characters lose the round once he gets in. It shouldn’t be too easy. >_>
Chun-Li: Chun-li got some of the worst changes in this game. The new SBK is fucking stupid stupid stupid. There should not be a move in ST that is meant to be “yomi.” You have to anticipate something for it to be effective and that is stupid. Anticipation leads to disappointment. I could rant about this more if you’d like at a later date. Removing d/f+mk is an awesome change, I’ll give him that. D/f+rh change is fair enough. Lightning legs nerfed hitbox is also fair enough. What’s un-fucking-acceptable is this bullshit aerial flash kick motion. Chun-Li has a rough matchup against Vega because of her odd anti-air options. Vega’s slide is, as you know, one of if not the best normal in ST. You have to frequently low block to avoid it. Chun’s main (almost only viable) anti-air in this match up is neutral jump hk. Go from crouch block to neutral jump rh and you get this bullshit, slow, USELESS fucking sbk that gets stuffed and then your momentum is fucked, vega is in on you and you’re just… done. Next round. Fucking useless stupid ass changes where sirlin was trying to be too creative with that overblown head of his.
Dhalsim: Nerfs are fair. Dhalsim was op. I hate the motion changes only because I go back and forth between games. I used to have slight issues with getting flame instead of fire if I wasn’t using my own arcade stick. Understandable so I can’t bitch much. One thing I personally would give up is reversal super if I could keep the old hitbox. He’s just a bit too vulnerable for me now, I’ve gotten beaten by stupid stuff. I’d gladly stick to my 1-frame-late “reversal” super and keep the old invincibility or perhaps a less intense nerf to his hitbox (or lack thereof). Being throwable from behind is perfectly
acceptable imo.
Vega: Fake wall dive is a stupid ass change. He did not need buffs IMO. I dunno, it’s been a while since I’ve played against a claw in HDR but I don’t really like the change. I understand wanting to give him something to make up for walldive not knocking down but… oh wait, no I don’t, vega is a fucking godly character.
Sagat: I like his changes but I think the tiger knee juggles should maybe do one less hit of juggle. Kinda excessive and really stupid looking for SF2. It’s not a juggle oriented game. Stop it sirlin. I like HDR sagat though.
Bison: Neutral jump strong buff gets the thumbs up. Fake slide is whatever, who cares. Didn’t really need it but… I don’t know that it’s really broken. His devil’s reverse, however, is broken. That is a really stupid change. Completely changes his ENTIRE fucking design (100% offense/ no defense)… You are supposed to play him well so that you don’t get stuck in situations where you need a gross free reversal. Why did he get this huge defensive buff without an offensive nerf? Fucking dumb. So dumb so dumb so dumb SO.
Cammy: Awesome changes. Perfect.
Fei Long: I will never forgive David Sirlin. He ruined my favorite street fighter character. Chicken wing kick is so. fucking. stupid. What I would have done is given rekkas a range increase that is less dramatic, and that’s it. That OR give him cancelable c.mk like o.fei without any range boost. I do appreciate that his mk/hk flame kicks knock down as that was unfortunate and stupid. I also like that is super travels further though I don’t know if it really needs to go as far as it does. Undecided there. I’ll never forgive him for ruining my favorite move though.
Deej: Improved comboability of dread kicks + damage nerf = thumbs up. I don’t like MGU eating fireballs. I think he is good enough in fireball wars because he can move forward while charging his godlike antiair dreadkicks (which lead to fucking super juggle!). I hate all these braindead options to having to think your way around fireball fights. I am not a seasoned Deejay player so I won’t pretend like my authority is all that worthy of credit though.
T.Hawk: So close, yet no cigar. O. Hawk normals is dope. DP knocking down is dope. Whiff on 360 WAS necessary. Definitely, definitely necessary. What’s stupid is his new dive. Not knocking down? Fucking gimmicky and stupid. It was meant to be a high risk high reward move imo. He changed it like he changed chicken wing kick and it pisses me off. I don’t really play tea hawk though I will forever parade that my pink tea hawk rapes julian’s pink tea hawk. Kekeke. ?
Akuma: Dumb. At least he tried. I guess. No actually he should’ve left my fucking ST alone. HDR gets me kinda riled up to talk about.
In summary: Sagat, Cammy, Deejay for the most part, and Gief are okay. I can live with all their changes really.
Unacceptable are: Ryu, Chun, Honda, Bison, Fei Long.

I can teach you some cammy stuff. I think you’d like her in this game. She’s actually really fun (well shit everyone is in ST). I think she has the fastest walk speed. Watch some nakamura. I know a couple other names but they have escaped me, will post them when I remember.
I agree with this logic 100% but why can’t you flip it around for people who don’t have fun playing HDR? Imagine playing a version of HDR where zangief was erased from the game. Some of our players feel that way about their characters now in a way. A bit drastic but it gets the point across.
Sirlin tried to change what HE wanted to change. Want to know what I really hate? He got together a ton of top, TOP players for advice, ideas, changes, etc. After they spent hard work discussing, theorizing, and thinking a lot, he threw their ideas out the fucking window and did what he wanted to do. That’s why HDR is so fucking hateworthy. He got butthurt because people shot down his bad ideas. So he’s like wanh wanh I’m davod sirloin I do what I want I’m an independent woman like beyonce bitch.

Actually, for once bokkin is spitting truth. It speaks volumes about HDR that someone who didn’t play ST can play it, then play HDR and feel how gross it is.
