Pink Gorilla: sessions every Saturday starting at 3PM, MvC2/ST/A3

How else is Chun going to beat someone who’s just sitting there and blocking?

How very zen. And correct.

How about on Sat at 3pm at PG!

Yeah i played it when it first came out, i hated the whole Supers & i ended up stop playing SF altogether.

I really dont see why HDR gets so much hate, its a great game…Why do ST players have so much anger towards HDR, why can you not enjoy both games? Its a hella lot better then SFIV…

Im willing to give ST a shot, ill go to Pink Gorilla one of these days when Real Life isn’t killing me so much…Just curious what are the changes you guys hate so much?

This is hilarious to me.

Your opinion claiming one game which is looked down upon by alot of OG ST players then you immediately go after SF4. That’s pretty gross.

Axel is right every post is HDR related and then I always see a sad attempt to dog on SF4 claiming you haven’t opened it or some shit. it’s understandable you don’t play SF4. Who wants to play a popular game that has big tournaments alot of press, getting people into FGs, and just get smashed on repeatedly. You should keep it closed. Or give me the disc. Having it for PS3 would be nice.

Speaking of getting dominated in a game. I’ll prob head down again sat if nothing is too terribly important going on. I’ve been looking into alot of cammy related stuff and how to properly do jump ins/throws/combos. I like the subtle super technical side of this game.

i dont think enough thought was given to what the original designers intentions were when going through with a lot of the changes

people like to say that the sf2 series only turned out good on accident or by chance, but the original sf2 team really knew what they were doing. can’t say the same for hdr or sf4 unfortunately

take the motions for example, every motion in st was planned and set up that way for a specific reason. despite what sirlin tells you, execution barriers in fighting games can be a good thing!

in the end it’s still sf2 at the core which is why so many players are willing to put up with it. and while i appreciate that it introduced a new generation of players to competitive sf2, i think st was plenty healthy as it was. maybe one day i’ll win the lottery and start a million dollar st league, until then i guess hdr at evo is all we have to look forward to

and to top it all off the graphics are about as ugly as they could possibly be lol

It’s kinda like, why play a worse version of ST when you could just play ST?

I just really really think that shit sucks. :amazed:

Who are these OG players you are talking about? Were you even born when SF2 came out?

BTW, i did open SSFIV last month & only played it once since…Its a huge improvement compared to SFIV but still not a game I care for. Im pretty sure majority of player who play SF2 dont care for it either, im not the only one. People like competition & im not blind to see there’s lots of comp that comes w/ SFIV.

Im sure if i devote enough to it i can get pretty good at it, but why play a game i cant have fun playing?

I keep hearing it sucks, i dont like the changes, etc… but can you guys be more specific? How different can it be?

Sirlin tried to compress the characters & its really starting to show. We got Gief winning Evo & now Guile & Cammy in the top 3 in SoCal tourney…

Fuck you, too!
Good answer though.

Seriously though? I’m all for playing the game you have, not the game you’d like it to be. But being punished for a throw is either an obvious oversight (which ST has a few of), or it’s the worst intentional decision ever. If you have to play around it, fine. But as long as you’re going through the game and fixing stuff, that should have been taken care of. I would put it on the same level as ‘Some characters can’t do a reversal super.’ … which was fixed, thankfully.

ugh srk ate my post, here we go again

we’re not necessarily seeing those characters do well in tournaments because the characters have improved that much, it’s because really amazing players have picked them up and learned them 100% in and out. hdr is just what happened to bring them into the scene

snake eyes is an incredibly smart player who would excel just as much in st as he does in hdr, if you are able to win with zangief in hdr you will be able to win with him in st

i dont think i need to speak for daigo guile at scr, he was playing a really solid st guile, hdr guile might as well not even exist to him. you might argue that guile’s bad matchups have improved in hdr, but really they haven’t changed significantly at all. blanka is the same, claw is arguably worse, dhalsim is slightly better but still extremely difficult

i’m not trying to argue that the tiers aren’t more compressed in hdr because they definitely are, but that is not the only criteria for a good game, i would go as far as saying that it doesn’t factor in at all. i’ve never lost a match in either game that i thought was because of the matchup and not because the opponent outplayed me

i purposefully dont mention specific changes because you have to look at the entire game as a whole and how the changes interact with each other to determine whether or not it succeeded in improving the gameplay. in my opinion hdr failed at this, other people think it succeeded, nobody is going to change the other’s opinion

rcaido please just give arcade st a chance, theres really just something about how it plays that has to be experienced to understand it

sorry if this post is hard to follow! phone posting rules

Wow really? I feel the opposite. Like say O Sagat vs Chun, I think that’s a very very bad matchup. Also ST chun vs ST gief (although I guess Jodim fucked me up in that matchup so that would prove your point)

i might be exaggerating a little there, and i only have the perspective of a single character, but there is always something i could do different that would put the match in my favor. the other player might not have to work as hard as i do, but it will have to be the player that beats me and not the character. i’m stubborn and terrible at actively changing how i approach things so i still lose bad matchups all the time, but i never feel like i’m at a disadvantage before the match starts. maybe guile’s matchups are all just winnable enough for me to feel like that, i really don’t know

the obvious example of balance != good game is third strike. would it be a better game if the tiers were more compressed? maybe, but would you be willing to risk ruining what all the best players have come to know and love over the past ten years to improve something that no one thinks needs improving?

That’s it. I’m out.

don’t you want to talk about third strike with me keith?

i don’t even know what the hell we were talking about in the first place, posting drunk on a phone works like that, whoops

does anyone ever go to pg on the weekdays?

Im actually trying to get myself ST for my candy cab but cant find a decent deal on it yet…If only Airthrow sold me his i would have snatch that but glad he sold it to Pink Gorilla as now there is a SF2 scene again.

I was kinda just into HDR but i would rather have any kind of SF2 then what our current fighting scene is now which is SFIV or nothing. I mean look at how SRK is now, its all about making money & SFIV…Its pretty sickening to me. They abandon SF2 which is greatest game ever made.

The best thing to do is continue to support ST & HDR…That way SF2 will live on forever!

word, it’s all sf2 so we have to support whatever version of it we can

I’ll rape Sagat with Chun Li.

Oddly enough, i’m at pg more on weekdays than saturdays

BBH. XTG. Raiden Fighters 2. Co-Op 1 Credit rape, if done correctly. Flying Ray, All Day.
