Pink Gorilla: sessions every Saturday starting at 3PM, MvC2/ST/A3

Slowly, I am coming to realize that I am not the best judge of whether I am sober enough to drive.

No Marvel players yesterday. Made me sad. Not sure if life is worth living anymore. Maybe I’ll just say, “Fuck it” to everything, cut my balls off, and just start playing SFIV. AFAIK, that is the only way to play SFIV. At least, I’ve never seen anyone do it any other way.

was it just an off day or has it been like that for awhile? One of the things I was really looking forward to on the breaks I have coming up when I get back up there is being able to get in some Marvel & ST.

I think there will always be a hardcore for ST, so I wouldn’t worry about that. We have some of the best players in the US here (not me, obviously).

It was a little bit of a disappointing turnout yesterday though.

anyone interested in some kind of tournament/event next saturday? doesn’t need to be for money or anything i just think it would be fun, maybe a round robin or something else depending on turnout?

Tournament would be awesome. Maybe make it best 3/5 double elimination rather than best 2/3?

Would be great to have 8 people enter if we can manage that…?

for honor

Fixed characters would be cool too

Come on now, why the hate w/ HDR?

lol you always show up to defend hdr

have you ever played arcade st? its just a completely different experience

Because having your throw be punishable if it’s teched is bullshit.*

  • And it’s even worse if, after 10 long years, you just leave it in.

How many times do we have to go over this? There’s so many fucking stupid changes. I’ll admit that there are a few changes that I really love and were totally okay. The bad changes are SO bad, though, that they outweigh the good ones.

I main Dhalsim and he got nerfed pretty hard and I still agree with every nerf he got. The character was too beastly.

Shoryuken - Fighter101 Tutorials for Super Street Fighter II Turbo - Renda Canceling, Reversals, and Super Cancels

Some awesome ST tutorials including reversals and different ways to do them, renda cancels, and super cancels. Worth checking out.

Why is it bullshit?

Because moves that are unsafe on hit are generally bullshit.
This goes double if it’s a basic, fundamental move (I think throws count), and it’s not just because you spaced it wrong, or something.

Sometimes throwing is the right answer. And if you choose the right answer, and you get it, and you still get punished and lose? That’s like the very definition of bullshit, in my book.

Other characters get untechable throws? Throw loops? Well, whatever. But I can be punished for a successful throw? That. Is. Bullshit. That is where I draw the line!

And I might forgive it for a game that’s older than half of the players at this point, but HDR? Should have fucking known better. You know what I want from a new version of SF2? Not having my throws be unsafe on hit. Capcom, take a goddamn memo.

EDIT: Also, you guys watch the HDR championships at SCR? Good games. Was sad to see the Chun player get fucking stomped when he got accidental air-SBK like three times. :frowning:

BAH. Whatever. It’s not like I even hate on HDR that much (especially since Chun’s throw is the same in vanilla). It’s just… a few things, you know? I don’t know what they were thinking.

at least you can throw the other direction and still be safe, so you’re never completely screwed you just have to be conscious of it

now if it was unsafe anywhere on the screen that would be a different story

we’re supposed to be talking about how hdr sucks can we get back to that topic

Poor Chun.

Of course. That shit sucks.

The End.

PS-Even made worse from the fact that it killed off ST in the US scene. R.I.P. ST, you will forever be my favorite SF game.

st keeps getting more entries than hdr at lots of tournaments, i like to tell myself its the beginning of a revival

but until evo brings it back it will never be the same, and that isnt happening anytime soon

if its your favorite game why havent you come to pink gorilla yet?!!

A few different reasons…

1-Playing so much SSFIV has effectively killed my ability to play ST.
2-PG is in Seattle meaning you have to pay for parking.
3-Since ST isn’t at Evo, my motivation to play it has been killed.
4-ST Chun will mess up my SSFIV Chun.
5-I don’t really play any of the games that are at PG.

But, if there was a ST tournament at NWM or whatever like major/regional/event we end up having, I would enter.

Doesn’t that just mean it was the wrong answer?
