Picking up seth , is it still worth it?

Only really good players will punish DP FADC consistently because the timing to punish is super fast… I land tons of DP FADC SPD still.

You’re too close to do a divekick after a crossup whiff after DWU. Instead, do meaty cr.mp/OS cr.lk backdash/meaty Tanden stuff.

I made an incomplete Google spreadsheet of Seth character specific combos, it should be buried in the Seth combo thread. It should be in the first post. If not, use the search function.

I don’t really know about that man. Yea you can still dp fadc spd people online, but offline, most people punish me for it, the few times i risk it.

Are you refering to the deleyed divekick i was talking about after spd? i can post a video if that’s the case

I think I misunderstood the discussion, yeah. I know you can totally react to DWU with a high divekick to safe jump.

Eh, I realize my opinion may not matter that much since I haven’t touched Seth in months, but you make it sound very factual, when for instance, for me, at the end of the day, his state makes it worth it for me to drop 2.5+ years of experience to pick up a new character instead.

They took away almost everything I enjoyed about him, mixed in with stuff like making his SRK the only SRK in the game to lose to an EX SPD, removing tanden cancels etc. I wasn’t great, but I wasn’t terrible either (eh, I am too bad for tournaments so I guess closest estimate is my ~4k pp/10-15k bp back in AE on PC.)

I dunno, I’ve had to put in a lot of work to do anything at all with Viper, but as for me I’d confidently say it’s very worth it to drop Seth if you want to be rewarded for your effort/consistent. Though, as long as you have fun and enjoy him, that’s all the reason you should have, but I strongly disagree with him being worth the effort. Even nowadays with Poongko’s actually quite exceptional play at times (his performance in Ultra has been excellent) he still just straight up loses some matches despite outplaying his opponent significantly.

I would actually strongly recommend anyone who still struggles with character identity issues in regard to Seth and his current incarnation to consider Viper, as she definitely offers me more of what I got from AE Seth than Ultra Seth offers me.

Is there any interest in Omega mode/Seth changes for Omega, or is that just entirely ignored by the community?

^I’m very interested in Omega Seth and hope that there will be the option of using an Omega character for tournaments without being totally broken. (I don’t think Omega mode will be broken since there will be a compromise regarding universal mechanics by doing so).

I think that anybody who uses Seth in Ultra anymore is only doing so as a matter of pride or being able to prove their abilities. One local player here hates just about any character I use because I “don’t play smart with them” or “press too many buttons” but he respects my Seth. That’s probably because you can’t press too many buttons with him and you HAVE to play smart.

But like comparing Seth to Dudley, like it’s not even funny how much worse Seth has it both in damage and stun output, and inability to take hits, and inability to easily get through fireballs. There are plenty of characters who can confirm high damage combos better than Seth. Even Zangief can get more out of the fierce cross-up he was allowed to keep.

But this all suggests there’s a theme to the game and Seth, getting progressively worse for each version, is mostly due to the fact that he’s the boss. Capcom wasn’t going to make the boss very strong in the first version and then continue to make him stronger in each version. So yeah, keep playing Seth if you take pride in it. But drop him like a dish rag if you want consistent wins.

I’m also very curious if he’ll make it into SF5 or if Capcom will be leaving out a lot of the cast from 4 (which would still be awesome IMO).

I would argue that EX Legs, U1, Sonic Boom, and a great focus make Seth a great anti-fireball character still. That’s the only thing I disagreed with in your post, though.

He’s… decent at getting through fireballs. But EX legs requires that you have meter, that the other player is within range of getting hit, and won’t recover fast enough to block it. If Seth is thrown full screen, he still pretty much has to thread the needle or fight fire with fire; which isn’t fun when you have to make a comeback. But at least his U1 is scrub-tier good now even though most players will start throwing fireballs reactively when I get it.
