Photoshop tutorial?

I have never seen a thread that talks about templates and Photoshop that takes art cut-off into consideration with regards to Skeleton buttons.

All the Skeleton button threads I’ve ever read have been about HOW to cut the art and put it under the plungers.

I think people are just eyeballing and cutting art off the print-out without taking into account what it is that’s being cut off (AHEAD OF TIME) many times.
If you’ve planned it so that the buttons – Skeletons or solids – don’t overlap the faces, you, of course, avoid the cut-off problems. Sometimes that’s NOT possible and you have to figure out what’s going to be lost AHEAD of time.

Right now, the way that image looks Chun Li’s left arm/hand will be cut off/partially obscured by buttons and a chunk of Felicia’s face might also be blocked off/cut off by buttons, too. Also, the tip’s of Chun Li’s right thumb and her left foot are going to be cut off from the framing, too. Right now, unless the framer is comfortable with this, I’d say it looks awkward. You want to try to avoid framing images that cut off heads and extremities (limbs, feet, hands) unless they’re absolutely not necessary. With that Chun-Li pose, I do think it looks awkward to cut off the right thumb tip and head of left foot. At that the very least, I would scale the image down a bit if it’s on a separate layer in Photoshop. (EDIT => TRANSFORM => SCALE unless it’s changed since Photoshop CS2…) That would be the easiest way to resolve the issue.

Is that what the person planning to print that art really wants??? I don’t see any pre-planning for the button layout, period. No indication of what kind of button layout/case style other than “looks like a custom”. As nice as art is, sometimes there’s some art you just can’t use because of practical composition reasons and hardware issues (ie, button layout).

@D3V - I was using the Morrigan pic from Google so I guess I’ll use the original one you linked to me.

UPDATE @D3V - Should be exact now. But I feel as if Chun-Li needs some sort of a background. Any suggestions? (By the way the Chun-Li picture is luckily in PNG form so I can put a nice background on her.

I’ve noticed that the rubber holders on the back of the template can literally rape the faces of Morrigan and Felicia. So I decided to improvise a bit moving them to the safe haven zone. Just me or Morrigan went out of proportion AGAIN!!

Somewhat. Don’t use the transform tool when moving stuff around.

Yep then I’m not paranoid about her shortened proportions. I only had to widen her and lengthen her by a bit and now it looks much better. Shame that I had to take a lot of her off, would have loved to fit both of her legs and arms if you know what I’m saying ;D? (Sorry for the many questions and same pictures over and over again lol,. Please bare with me

Does anyone have any tips on what this artwork needs? I feel almost as if it is missing something… Suggestions would be nice

The post above this is the most recent edited artwork so that is the final product atm.

if you want, i’ll send you that you Morrigan with no background, then they’ll all match…white background…and maybe, just maybe, get rid of john talban in felicia’s hair, then i’ll be happy…lol…

Hmmmm I’ll give it a try. You think it couldn’t hurt if I put the MvC 3 logo in the middle?

Also this is a Tek template meaning I will send it to him. So perhaps when I get the picture I won’t notice a blur if I were to look at it from a close view?

The Morrigan picture you provided me was a bit blurry (I did shift click so that’s not the issue) but this is just a rough sketch one what a full white would look like. Overall it’s okayy… but I prefer the old on better. Perhaps a background for Chun-Li would do the trick.

Yeah the white just looks too bland. Got any suggestions for a Chun-Li background? I might use the Felicia picture you provided to replace the old Felicia pic on my June 3rd post. For a Chun-Li background, I was thinking of getting three pictures of her in different poses and make the one you see right now a bit opaque. You think that would look nice?

That’s one of my approaches. The three Chun-li pics is still in wip as I need to find ones I like and match with the current one.
