Kind of off topic but I think some games try to do too much after reading Nini’s post. I honestly did not like GTA4 at all because while it did a lot of things, it didn’t do them well. The driving didn’t feel that great and the shooting mechanics were meh and it’s weird for me saying this because I love the Yakuza games which are basically a beat-em-up version of GTA without being the (sociopathic) asshole part. Even though I like the Elder Scrolls games, I remember reading somewhere, “What do Elder Scrolls and Minecraft have in common? The combat.”. And sadly enough it’s pretty fucking true .
Nini have you tried Ghost Trick? I see you like the Ace Attorney series and Hotel Dusk.
Tony Hawk 2 and Underground were the best, but the franchise was ruined when they started to bring more and more pointless games (the board games were a disaster), the same with Guitar Hero, more than innovation i think it was a huge risk without any backing support.
The Mmos now follow the modern standard created by Everquest, WoW was the first to take the lead after Everquest and his successful formula, Rift and SWTOR are more of the same but with different environments, at least Arena NET is doing something good with guild wars 2 (some people who worked with vanilla wow are working there) at least some asian devs are trying something different like TERA
European and North American devs are huge monsters with a lot of talent and resources, but one country can’t compete against 2 continents, Japan has big studios but you can’t compare their resources against America and Europe, of course Japan is now behind because of people without balls who don’t like to express themselves and try to share more ideas (i can remember that Itakagi said this before in some interview), but at least i think is right to give them the benefit of the doubt, Gravity Rush looks great, Platinum Games, Inafune and Itakagi are working on new proyects, etc also western companies taking guarantee money from games like COD is not different than japanese publishers taking money from SF, FF or Dinasty Warriors, also the asian tastes are different, did you see how the entire VITA library wasn’t successful in japan but here is popular?.
I can see new Japanese Ip’s in the future i really hope they can do it right.
I have Final Fantasy Tactics on my iPod touch. Those things are powerful and the games for them are good.
Call me crazy but I get the vibe that Sovi3t thinks Japan only makes RPGs…
He mentioned buying Bayonetta but skipped the rest of P*'s awesome catalog. Cathrine was great, unique, and a new IP. Shadows of the Damned rocked. King of Fighters XIII is a great fighter. Demon’s/Dark Souls, while not my kind of games are really good, difficult breaks from the JRPG formula games and on my Wii Muramasa, Madworld and Skyward Sword where all incredibly good games. That’s a decent number of games off the top of my head that encompass a wide verity of genres and are all Japanese.
But people don’t like to actually look into stuff. It’s much easier to just discount everything and throw it under a blanket of hate. If you’re not finding games that suit you it’s because your too fucking lazy to look, that goes for everybody including this Fish guy.
Blanket statements are pretty much always fail because they are pretty much always wrong. When people make blanket statements like that it more or less tells me they don’t know what they fuck they are talking about.
I mean look at meta gear rising game had potential had it stayed true to twits roots and offered a completely unique perspective in the mgs world post sons of liberty. They instead took an opportunity and made it into a Bayonetta esque game eschewing all what made raided and the mgs universe unique in comparison.
I just want to see a Japanese game that doesn’t either hold my hand, isn’t extremely linear, and really makes me feel empathic toward the characters plight .Im not asking for a shooter that is over the top and reminds me I’m playing a parody, nor am I asking for some crazy ass over top action game .

More like Platinum Games being the exception in the entire gaming industry. They’re the shining example of making GOOD games because they WANT TO MAKE GOOD GAMES. They’re creative, innovative, and successful in a market of oversaturation. Capcom can’t make good fighting games anymore and is greedy as fuck, Bioware is now lazy as fuck and has on disc DLC as well, and let’s not get started about other stupid DLC bullshit like $20, 3 map DLC packs for CoD.
What does Inafune want? For JP companies to make DLC: THE GAME like Western companies are right now? Fuck the gaming industry right now. It’s garbage.

Yeah MGS:R had so much potential that is was in development hell for something like three years before they finally canceled it and made a new game. Yup. Potential. Those damn JP companies canceling games that weren’t going anywhere!
lol u named one of the games i did, then the Street Fighting genre I mentioned. GThanks for pretty much stating what I did. wow, u enjoyed mediocre games that likely didnt sell well. Woah boy! Stand back western developers, and stare at aww at anoher Gundam game…
Of course, Infinity Blade is another example, but i don’t share the comparison between Handhelds and Smarphones, a handheld is designed for gaming as a whole, an smartphone is a versatile machine but it has its limits because is not designed for games only, is like comparing a pads with arcade sticks for FG or the mouse/keyboard combo with pads on FPS, a dedicated control will be superior depending of the genre.
In each one it comes down to which faction you join. However its not that clear cut. In the first one the best ending achieved by essentially joining both factions.
In the 2nd one, there are two factions, and the “common people”.
The 3rd you can still get used, I saw it the other day in gamestop.
Id say play it, that’s the only way you’ll know if you’ll like it.
They are fun though and there’s different movesets for different stances. Prob 15 total combat styles with a few different movesets for each one.
For jrpgs wake me when there is a rerelease of the first Shin Megami Tensei.
Any way yeah most indie games are platformers, its too the point one indie dev said if you’re going to make a game copy your favorite game but change the sprite.
