I really don’t see the harm of them being at the same event. Tekken had nothing to do with Capcom fighters, neither did MK but there they are. Granted, Smash is different but if I had to group it with a genre for events it’d have to be fighting.

Not really since I’ve never claimed it was a baby shit easy game, I’ve always said it was boring, and that I don’t want to play a boring game snd that my specific problem with Smash as a competitive game is that it is fucking boring. Smash is tough, I’ve never said other wise, but tough doesn’t automatically equal fun, and I play games to have fun. Smash Tournament Rules are fucking bring as shit, and I am not obligated to play your game to prove I’m good at it (I’m not) in order to talk shit about it and how fucking boring it is.
You don’t get to set some magic fucking rules about what reasons are good reasons for people to not like you’re fucking game. Since I never said your game was baby shit easy, I’m not beholden to need to prove it’s easy baby shit in order to say I don’t think your game is worth my time.
In fact no one here is beholden to any criteria you set for anything about Smash, period. The conversation isn’t even about Smash being easy or not, you’re derailing the conversation.
No not really. I get paid okay for what I do. Not as much as I want but I’m not exactly broke. I don’t want to spend my free time getting good at a game to make money I can easily make doing something more fun and adventurous like getting a freelance assignment.

Also real talk. This talk about Smash players hygiene. Is it actually the problem ya are making it out to be? Or was it just like a few dudes who just ruined it for their community?
No, it’s a requirement.
And this proves why Smash should never be alongside fighting games, much less considered one. What fighting game do you know of that intentionally disregards a built-in feature for which the rest of the game is designed to work alongside of? You don’t see SF tourneys banning all super moves, wake ups, special moves, throwing, etc; unless this tourney is hosted by children who also added the rule that you can tell your mom on the opponent if they use any of these banned moves.
For as long as I’ve been here (and I know even longer than that), there’s been a philosophy of “play to win”. Part of this includes using all the tools a game gives you, and either using them to your advantage, or finding a way to beat them. Not “uh let’s all agree to never use this because we can’t be bothered to figure it out”. Only in the most extreme circumstances would you ban a specific character or a specific move, but even that’s rare, and I can’t recall it ever being as broad as to ban a mechanic entirely. You wouldn’t ban items from Mario Kart, because your scrub ass is gonna need that red shell or super star to make up for how shit you are. I recently watched competitive F-Zero GX where the players use custom cars, and exploit the mechanics to try and win. With the exception of the obvious air checkpoint glitch and maybe snaking they just take what the game gives them and roll with it.
So why is Smash the only game that does this? Notice I said “game” and not “fighting game”, because you’re not a fighting game if you have to take an existing non-fighting game and fake it like a Smash player’s girlfriend to make it “competitive”. I’ve played Smash without items too, I just don’t call it a fighting game at that point, I call it half-assed and boring, which is why I won’t watch a half-assed and boring tournament at EVO again. People want to see everything a game has to offer and how these features are used at high-level play. Flat out rejecting an entire system of gameplay makes it look like the players just don’t want to bother trying to use this ability that players of other games have called learning, and then strategizing around them. And then their delusions demand that the rest of the FGC accepts this stripped-down version of a game as being the same as the games that use all their features.
And I don’t want to hear shit about “items can hurt you too”. I play FPS games. You know what most of those games have? A rocket launcher. You know what a rocket launcher causes? Splash damage. You know what splash damage can do? That’s right, damage the person who fired it. I’ve seen plenty of times where a player in a 1v1 match frags themselves (either accidentally or intentionally) by either weapon or environment, yet at no point have I ever seen anyone demand that splash damage and lava and slime and the void be disabled. Because these would be demands only a pussy who can’t be bothered to learn how to avoid damage makes.
Maybe if Smash started using items and showing off its full ability as a game, then maybe Smash players can start using items in their real life adventures such as their brains. Or at the very least, soap and water.
