Grinding games a lot for execution is accrues 0 benefit to your life. No one wants to waste 6 months of their life perfecting a combo because they will suffer a pay cut because of it.
I like grinding games I enjoy and I don’t mind the more difficult aspects of the game if it is fun. To this day I still do MvC2 and Vampire Savior training mode because it is a fun hobby to me. SSBM learning how to l cancel all day then learning perfect movement to play a neutral game that is honestly not very rewarding fun wise. The game literally put me to sleep last year and I woke up in the middle of marvel. I don’t get why smash players always brag about the skill needed in the game. People that play other games REALLY don’t care at all. Honestly more concerned with grinding to get into med school than grinding endlessly on some game.

I know there was falcomist in MvC3. Locally there’s a dude who plays all the melees and Guilty Gear. Not a knowned player by any means but those are in an extreme minority. There is more overlap between the scenes as far as players playing multiple games casually but that may also be attributed to the fact that sessions in smash involve smash, sessions in the FGC sometimes involve multiple games but rarely do FGC sessions have smash set ups and I doubt that smash sessions have set ups for other games (although this is an inference I don’t know if they do set up consoles for other games).

CRT is actually cool for their intended purpose that still does one thing way better than LCDs that never plan for this and don’t care about anyone’s community. This whole post just shows a gross misunderstanding of Smash Bros.
Besides the obvious: Why was USF4 allowed to disregard Edition Select? USF4 was boring without v.Sagat!
Let’s take a little lesson on Smash itself, first of all there is no wrong way or right way to play Smash Bros. No one can claim there is an official set of rules. Smash has about a million options and the game gives no guidelines. But it undeniably needs a standard.
So why are items off? Unlike everything you mentioned (except MK, that has a scene?) items drop in random spots at random times and it could be anything. You could be charging a move for a punish and an exploding capsule falls right in front of you before the animation ends and there you go. You lose the match. There’s adapting and then there’s “fuck you, be clairvoyant”.
By comparison, moves in SF are things players are in control of. Things you could reasonably guess, you think if SF had a random explosion option it would be set on? The community bitched and moaned about gems in SFxT and those were largely shut. Why? They’re in the game.
Oh rocket launchers can hurt you? But who fired that? You or the sky gods? That’s right, you! You made a choice, it backfired. It didn’t fall from the fucking sky at random. You fell down or hit lava? That shit was easily visible in advance, that is your fault.
Again, imagine you were playing an FPS and there was a pretty fair chance something would fall right in front of your gun mid shoot animation and blow away half your health, you’d probably toggle that shit off wouldn’t you?
