Petition for arcade release of SSF4

What if they debut SSFIV on a linked arcade cabinet and hold a small private tourney there? How would that be for an announcement?

I don’t understand why some people have voted “No”. What could they possibly have against this getting an arcade release?

Give people choices and there will always be people who have to pick the choice not chosen.

Heh. This reminds me of a phone-in poll on Teletext (people in the UK know what I’m talking about. It was something like: “Do you think Jordan is wrong to treat Peter Andre so badly?”

The results were:

Yes: 60%
No: 25%
I don’t care: 15%

15% of people actually thought, “I don’t care about this! Where’s the phone?”

Takes all sorts.

There are still arcades? Madness.

i do believe that if they don’t announce an arcade release at the national tourney they are not going to release it. here’s hoping!

This joke is so funny in every thread or blog post about arcades on the whole Internet. You should start a comedy troupe with people that post similar zingers such as “What’s an arcade? lol” and “I’ve never seen an arcade in my life, so they must not exist in areas besides my own”.

Salty!

There’s a claw machine at “Denny’s”, that = the US arcade scene outside of the major cities.

Sad, but true.

(the claw machine is sometimes Sega brand, my heart goes all pitter-patter when I see that. glory days, glory days…)

It would be great if the arcade release is announced during national tournament.

But unfortunately this is SFIV at Togeki so I think SSFIV won’t be released before on arcade (september 2010).

Eh, I don’t think so. The original SF4 was released in Summer 2008 (early July, I believe), but it wasn’t at the 2008 Tougeki tournament because there wasn’t enough time to run qualifiers. I’m sure it’ll be the same thing if this game is released in May/June. They’ll play SF4 at Tougeki 10, and then SSF4 the next year. I don’t think Capcom will plan their release schedule around one single tournament. Plus, I’d imagine the summer months are the best time to be running arcades, so they’d want to get it out there if they can.

^^ are you serious?

the feeling you get at an arcade is different to lounging around the place, even if you go to a friends house it’s not the same…theres a reason they all go there if it wasn’t so good they wouldn’t…they’re not retarded

Lack of arcade releases killed Soul Calibur for me.
It may very well do the same for SSFIV.

People who actually read teletext are probably so bored that they text pointless replies to polls for fun.

From the new info thread : http://www.hadoken.net/?p=1391

If an arcade version is really coming then that’s pretty damn cool of Capcom. The arcade version of Sf4 lost them a lot of money but they are willing to take the risk again for the fans/community. It’s not often you see a company do something like this.

Meh … no more credible than any of the prior speculation.

^^^ Nakky has been strongly hinting towards it in her blog. Seriously if they announce anything other than an arcade verison of SSf4 its going to be a major disappointment. I don’t know why Capcom would set themselves up to purposely disappoint fans.

I’d be REALLY surprised if it didn’t happen, it’s what, a hard drive swap?

You’ll get an arcade release… minus the console characters, of course.

SF4 arcade lost them money? That surprises me. Is there a source on that?

If it’s true, I guess it’s because of the high cost of installing those Viewlix cabinets. Even more reason to try to make money off a sequel; relatively low cost (compared to SF4) to install the game, and an opportunity to make some money back.

I always thought it would be pretty difficult for Capcom to ignore the arcade base right now, almost like a small-scale corporate suicide. Arcades are slowing down, even in Japan, but… we’re not at the stage yet where they can just be safely ignored. Press from Arcadia magazine and good PR with all those people who bought your Viewlix cabinets still should be something worth keeping.

?adjective
5.pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific appeal: niche advertising.

I miss the days where every single strip mall had an arcade throughout America. I can understand them not doing an arcade release, but it would be really nice for the folks who are close to places where you can appreciate it!

There’s this sense of “well, I don’t give a shit about a console release, I have an arcade locally, they should clearly do a release!” For the console gamer in Georgia or Kansas or wherever, the sentiment is mutual.

I don’t see how they can ignore the arcade fanbase at all.

The arcades may not be their biggest money makers, but they’re essentially what drives the community and the tournament scene, and even the evolution of the game. If they had not released SF4 in the arcades, the console sales probably would still have been very high, but the community probably would have moved on by now like they do with all console games. It’s the people who get together in person and challenge each other and start tournaments that keep the game alive.

The arcade and the PC are probably the only two gaming meduims left that consistently create truly timeless games, and they are both dying. You don’t see console gamers playing shooters that came out a decade ago, but there are PC gamers that still play Counter-Strike every single day religiously. SF4 is big on the consoles now, and SSF4 will be big with it releases, but there are still people in Japanese arcades playing SF3 like it was their life (and SF2 for that matter). It’s still one of the top 10 arcade fighters in Japan, and it’s JUST behind SF4.

Even though there’s very little chance that I would ever play SSF4 in the arcade over a console (or hopefully, a PC), that doesn’t change the fact that they are important to the longevity of the game itself. COME ON CAPCOM, WE NEED AN ARCADE RELEASE (AND A PC RELEASE TOO)!!!
