Petition for arcade release of SSF4

^In an ideal world. And OMG TEXT! Not to be negative, but:

Do you actually think that one console manufacturer will be willing to agree with the other on something this big?
= No

If they do agree to this, the ported console will become the lesser simply due to sub-par ports in the past.
= more people will buy the developer console.

/signed for arcade release because we still need to have Japanese competition

I saw almost 60 pages and got happy. 60 pages of signatures! That might actually be substantial to Capcom. Turns out to be 60 pages of people arguing. Not that debate is bad, just that I do believe that’s not the point of this thread.

Put my name down for an arcade release

Even if so, it’d be the console version which feels significantly different to the arcade release.

The arcade version not only fosters and continues the arcade culture, but its also the definitive version of the game. The console releases don’t hold a candle to it in my opinion.

To all the people wondering why Capcom won’t do an arcade release even though it’s so easy, here’s my theory:

A simultaneous Japan arcade and console release might detract from the overall sales of the console version because there will be 2 versions available. If both versions are available then it splits the market. The execs at Capcom want to maximise profits and so will release it on console only forcing players to buy retail versions. They don’t want customers to decide which version is best or which one they want to buy/play which is fair enough I suppose.

This is why Ono is not allowed to release an arcade version even though he believes it is the best thing for the community. It’s also why the developers and Nakky are trying hard to get an arcade version. If we do see an arcade version it’ll be a month or two after console release which I think is the agreement that Ono and the developers are trying to work out with higher ups at Capcom.

This is similar to the views of Fubarduck who wrote about this idea in an article I posted a few pages back.

I forget you can’t masturbate to your favorite japanese player once this game comes out instead you have to do it to american players…

2010 times have change no?

I enjoy watching matches and limiting it just to American matches will obviously lower the total amount of matches that can be watched.

Also it seems to me way more Japanese videos get posted than American anyway. It isn’t even close unless there is some youtube user I don’t know of that I don’t subscribe too (I have frame-ad, arcadeinf, sf4db, lordaborigine+sf4).

i think you misunderstood me.

my thinking doesn’t require either sony nor microsoft to come to an agreement with eachother. i hardly think sony or microsoft agrees in what console games generally are being developed for first in the development cycle. bayonetta springs to mind quickly. i hardly think sony agreed to that being developed for the 360.
it’s all a matter of competition and kapitalism. i never said that the console manufacturers should come up with any agreement, but come up with a solution of their own for the arcade developers. microsoft offering their solution and sony theirs. they would both compete on getting contracts on the big arcade games.
this would of course force the console wars into arcade territory though, but it’s a funny thought though.

If so, then it would seem like the card system is doomed; you wouldn’t have cross-compatibility should both be viable solutions. Arcade games already have boards spec’d by the developers, no need to add a third party in Sony or Microsoft to bring licensing costs even higher. The reason they don’t do it is because that market seems to be way too small; if arcades were still abundant worldwide, then yes; but as it stands no.

I’m sure the game developers choose whether or not to develop for consoles; Sony & Microsoft don’t need to agree to have a release out on their platform. Bayonetta was worse on the PS3, but you didn’t see Sony prohibiting its distribution after seeing how it turned out.

end thoughts

This is such a no-brainer I don’t even know why it is being discussed. I can understand the price of view-linx cabs as a huge barrier but this could pretty much single-handedly expand the life of this game. Having been to Tokyo myself… the need for arcade systems is primary to the development of competitive play. Without arcade releases this game could die in Japan… or at the very least significantly decrease the amount of competition/skill out of this region. As a japanese developer too… I just don’t understand why there would be hesitation. Even if the amount to develop for arcade = a loss of profit it will significantly increase the life/reputation of the game… which gives it more legs.

Financially, by not releasing the arcade version, Capcom will save themselves a lot of money. They’ll gain a lot more by focusing on DLC. You want tourneys? Get a hotel room and a PS3.

6-months after the thread began, and it’s the same shit:

“What’s to stop Japanese arcades from using PS3 consoles?” - has been answered 367 times I think.

Then a couple “Can’t masterbate to Japanese players lolz.” posts followed by “I don’t care, doesn’t affect me, I’m a selfish piece of shit” posts.

Anyways. Thanks for everyone who supported this.

umm maybe because Arcades are either Dieing/Dead in the U.S. and Capcom refuses to basically cater to just one region (Japan)…Thread?

To all the haters

At the end of Godsgarden #2, in the closing ceremony, Nakky made a short speech and was quoted as saying (rough translation):

“We’ve been listening to the requests from our fans, like an arcade version for the sequel . . . I’m trying quite hard and advanced to the Producer-level so something may happen.?Anyway, for reasons such as that, I really hope everyone can make it to the National Tournament on 4/4.”

This is yet more evidence that SSF4 arcade will be announced at the Japanese SF4 National Tournament next month. She might as well have said they’re going to announce it then, the way she said it in Japanese.

Yeah, I’m putting that into my “Asian Indirectness Translator” and coming up with “Expect an announcement about SSF4 arcade at the National Championships!”

Thanks for the info!

Fuck yeah! Awesome news!

I am with you on this, nothing beat sitting down at a good ole coin op machine!

I’ll believe it when it’s announced. But if it is announced, FUCK YEAH!

Well, considering nakky’s blog postings, any times she starts hinting at something then urging people to check back or go somewhere on a specific date, there’s an announcement. I’d say that’s as solid as an announcement as we can get prior to Japan Nationals.

It’s the most suitable place to announce it, too. Not to mention, Ono has been hinting quite heavily at a “special announcement” in April, and we already know virtually everything about SSF4 that could qualify as a “special announcement”.

I’m stoked! An arcade release will bring forth the best competition for SSF4 possible.

Now, we just need to find out exactly when the arcade release will come out. Presumably they’ve been working on it for some time already. I’m planning a trip to Japan in the summer, and it would be awesome to go after SSF4 comes out in arcades. Hopefully we’ll find out a date in April, and hopefully it’s released by June or so!

If SSF4 comes in arcades, that is very good news. One of my favorite time killers for the past year has been watching videos of top level Japanese play in SF4, and with Super’s more interesting cast of characters it can only get better
