Petition for arcade release of SSF4

Im signing. Capcom is being ridiculous.
The reason why we know so much about the game is because of SFIV players in Japan. Most of them def wudnt play the game if it isnt released on the arcade, and the ones that do play will hold all the secrets of the game until a huge tournament which can be months and years. Not a good idea Capcom, American Street Fighter players need the Japanese to play this game for competition, interesting tactics, and financial success so that Capcom will make more Street Fighter games.

I’m going to be an asshole posting this, but this is what I think (Disclaimer: what I think, I don’t speak for anyone else you listed). What makes you think that we will play you guys online when we could easily play against each other and level up offline? What makes you think arcade isn’t the way to actually play the top level players because we can’t deny your requests to play or accept your friend request? Online sucks and will always suck. I’ve lost to COUNTLESS people online 10-0, but when it’s offline, it’s different. I believe that having the aura of the person around you makes you play better and know them better. Not listening to their buttons, just having them around you no homo. If I’m playing someone online, how can I take them seriously? How do I know they aren’t playing on their beds laying upside down playing with their stick taped to the ceiling? But this is coming from me who claims to only play serious for money, am considered an asshole in the community, and I’m fat so take my shit with a grain of salt if you want. But I guarantee you that ‘top’ players would choose to play offline than online any day.

Folks are still going to play each other offline on this and level up. I agree with the online thing no amount of connecton is going to help with lag. I guess folks in the U.S.A. are just going to have to hold console sessions. I still think Ono is bullshitting an arcade release is coming.

sometimes i wonder if its opposite day everyday with ono?

Explain to me why Sega or Namco would distribute Super Street Fighter IV when lately Capcom powered their arcade version of Street Fighter IV on Taito Type X2 hardware, so most likely Taito will distribute the upgrade again. I would agree Sega if it was 2000 when Capcom decided to put on Sega Naomi hardware.

By the way I vote for an arcade release before console.

I hate to say it but it is the truth… Me as well as many, many others have been watching the decline for almost the past 20 years…first hand.

Anyone not in NYC, Cali, Chicago, Houston, Omaha know that arcades are dead.

It would be nice to have an arcade release but it’s not needed like some think it is.

theres NOTHING guaranteeing that i or anyone else will be able to specifically play you guys…yeah i KNOW that the best players play each other in games with good connections like in hdr, in lobbies, shunning peeps that arent at there level… (i do the same its only the natural course of things).

but the point is that i have 0 chance of playing you in particular or any other top player in particular that isnt in my area, unless its online.

sure maybe my chances only go up like maybe 1/10th of a percent online but its still better than 0…

also, i’ve also been wrecked online by peeps that i can beat offline… in its current state, it sucks. but theres nothing that inherently states that it has to stay that way… technology gets better as time goes by.

and to answer your last point:

i do think arcade is the best way to play the top players… however, that is REALLY not reflected in the current us setup:

ALL of our arcades have 1 setup currently except for denjin, which = long waits between getting beaten, the only thing to do in between is to talk strategy “theory fighter” or watch the champ play… "match videos"
but neither of those is actually playing, which is where the REAL benefits are REALLY going to come through as far as getting SUBSTANTIALLY better.

it is better for “the average” player to play the pros online because… there is no other option for most people besides flying there asses into an arcade environment for there weeks vacation…

basically i’m of the belief (and this is only my belief)
that skill has NOTHING to do with Cali or New York or the midwest, japan… etc.etc.
it has everything to do with practice, talent, and having players that push you past personal ability threshholds in order to beat them.

practice can be gotten online.
talent is random and spread equally among the masses
players that push you are also available online

the only thing needed is netcode to support high level play… if we can get netcode that can have a constant 2 frames of lag or less… if… of course.

i honestly think that there are HUNDREDS of unknown talented players out there that could challenge the best if given the right environment to nurture there skills. the more people that play this game the more that we will see people come out of the woodwork like YO I"M HERE TO OWN FOOLS, that actually have game. i want to play against those people and not just be restricted to playing against the 50 or so players that are available on one machine over the course of an entire week.

simply put, online means more practice time for people like me, and maybe even the occasional run in with an unknown prodigy or top player.

For those of you who made sensible posts about why the US scene doesnt NEED an arcade version (people like Valle, not like Sablicious), you are for the most part correct. The US scene in the long run will do just fine without arcade as most places in the US dont have arcades. Console works fine for the US.

It wont work for Japan and many other countries. I know tons of you posted stuff like “who cares? fuck them! our community will do just fine”) which regardless of whether you care about Japan’s actual SF community or not, just hear me out…

Honestly not having an arcade version of the game will greatly cripple the competitive scene for it as others have pointed out using SC as an example. As a whole, you have to understand that most Japanese players play multiple games. EVEN IF they somehow manage to get a console scene going with gatherings at some location (that will have to most likely be rented out, since as it was mentioned, Japanese apartments REALLY ARE FUCKING SMALL), many gamers who enjoy playing other fighting games will feel less inclined to play SF. Say someone plays GG, BB, Tekken, and SFIV. If they go to the arcade, they can find comp for any of those games and have the choice to switch between them. If they have to go to some specific far off place to play on console, they may find it easier to simply go play the other games instead. This will reduce overall interest in the game and when interest goes down, the community starts to die. Just look at the GG community in the US. Once the game was dropped from EVO, the turnout at other tournaments stated to decline. And on the other hand, just look at how big the SFIV community has gotten in the US! Many people who played other games mainly before have switched, and I have heard from MULTIPLE people that a lot of them even still like the other games BETTER than SFIV, but they play SFIV because “thats what everyone is playing now, and thats where the hype is and the comp is!” A game without comp is as good as dead. Even myself as an example, I am mainly a Guilty Gear player (and always will be), but I have recently been getting more interested in SFIV too now that SBO is over. I live far as hell from decent game centers (I travel 3 hours every weekend just to go play at the arcade) so during the week I cant play any GG. I play lots of SFIV online, and I think im starting to get better. I might even be interested in joining some tournaments soon. However, If theres no arcade release in the future for SFIV there arnt going to be many tournaments since 99% of Japanese tournaments are held at arcades. and NO THEY WONT RUN THEM ON CONSOLE. Japan is very bureaucratic and it would just be too much hassle to get it to be allowed at most of the major game centers. With no tournaments to look forward to at all, I certainly am not going to be as interested in the game. Ill play a few random casuals during the week but it doesnt leave me with much inspiration to step my game up. I think a lot of Japanese SF players will feel the same way especially when they play other games too.

So to get back to my point, you are probably thinking “who cares if the hype and the comp die in Japan, and who the fuck cares about this ElvenShadow scrub? It wont matter in the US where most of us play on console.” Its going to affect you indirectly through having no more SFIV at SBO, and you can forget about arcade based gaming countries having players travel to EVO and stuff as often. The stealing strategy thing is irrelevant. Its all about the entire interest and strength of the WORLD community taking a huge hit. The more worldwide exposure these games get, the more chance of these games becoming more mainstream there is.

Now lets look at this from a business standpoint. Here’s what I think is gonna happen. The arcades DONT NEED the Taitox2 cabs in the first place, but many of them already have them because they are running games like SFIV, BB, and Tekken on them. However, tons of arcades are running SFIV on regular old cabs. TRF mostly does this as an example. The game runs just fine, you just have to play on a smaller screen. Releasing just the boards for the new games isnt going to be that big of a deal for Capcom. Look at fucking TvC! Im not hating on the game, but every time I go to the arcade, that game gets like NO play at all. I dont see why if they can put that in arcades why they cant release Super4. Thats why I think (as many have pointed out) that Ono is bluffing his ass off. If he was a smart business man, he will go with his bluff that its console only to boost sales for the console version in Japan (since as it was pointed out, console sales are worse compared to USA and EU, mostly due to the fact that Japanese gamers will mostly play at the arcade). Many players will be disheartened by the fact that there wont be an arcade release but they will buy the console version anyway for the love of the game (but there wont be much of a tournament scene at first). Then once Ono sees the numbers he wants for the console sales, he will bring out the arcade version so that he can also see profits from arcade release. However, the arcade release will above all else, create more hype and interest for the game, and once you starve the arcade community enough and throw some bones at them, they will come feeding like a pack of wild animals. Capcom gets more money, more hype is created, and the scene will thrive once again. As long as he releases arcade version soon enough before Tougeki, this would probably maximize profits.

So in short, im pretty sure there WILL eventually be an arcade release.

For those of you who dont care because it wont effect the US scene from an isolated standpoint, just sign the petition anyway, it takes 10 seconds. Just help out the rest of us who do have our reasons for caring.

For those of you who want to boycott the game because it wont be on arcade, support the scene as a whole and buy it anyway! Boycotting isnt going to help shit, and you are only hurting the scene and yourself by not buying it.

For all you people who just want to hate on an arcade release cuz it makes you feel like you have a big e-cock, go die in a fire.

Also, anyone who replies that this was a Japanese nut hugger post, learn to read (and actually comprehend the meaning of the words)

I have been playing fighting games since their inception (I’m 30 years old), and I am apart of the arcade generation. I rarely played games at home, almost strictly in arcades most of the time. But the times have changed, arcades are DEAD in Atlanta, and will remain that way forever. No one here really cares about arcade, and I’m more concerned about the state of my local competition, than what’s going on overseas. I will be seeing my local competition before I’ll ever see Mago, Daigo, and friends. All this mean is that there will be no more youtube videos to XCopy, but maybe it will make things a little more interesting.

A decade ago our top players Alex Valle, Eddie Lee, John Choi and others had to let go of arcades and learn to play on console. It has worked out just fine for them, and they still dominate the US scene. They are no worse. I understand the pains of playing on console. And at heart I still prefer to play in an arcade than play on console at someone's house. It's the way I grew up, and it'll always be my preference. But let's be honest with ourselves, Capcom releasing arcade games is just not a sensible thing.

The era of pure arcade players is dead, and died with 3s. 3s was absolutely the last game where there appeared to be an imperative need to play it on the arcade hardware. There were still the Pyrolees, 5 Stars, and others who wouldn’t touch console in a millionaires. Now times have changed, and that mentality has died, and it died almost 2 years ago.

Japan will conform whether they like it or not. They want to play this game, and they are just going to have to get use to it. Our top players have gotten use to it for better or worse, and now it's their turn. If anything THIS will level the playing field, and it may put the USA and Japan on the same level.

I would love to see videos of console characters used to their full potential in Japan, so i definitively think they should have an arcade release of SSF4

This in bold is the point that Magus and myself and a few others have tried to make multiple times here, and which is really at the entire heart of the thread. Like I gives a fuck about business economics and misplaced nationalism. It’s about let’s ensure that sooner or later, SSF4 will be in arcades for those lucky enough to have that option available. Even if it’s consoles first. The way we ensure that is to raise our collective voices. It may not help, but damned if it hurts.

What the hell will happen to US owner that imported SF4 machine due to the overwhelming request from fans?

I don’t think they will ever recover their cost if Capcom did not prove an option to update the machines. SF4, BB, Tekken are the things keeping the little Arcade we still have alive beside DDR.

I don’t think any US arcade owner will risk importing another machine from Japan if SSF4 get no arcade release. Casual player bring the highest revenue, but it is the arcade loving hardcore that keep SSF2T alive for more than 10 years.

Arcade is such important aspect for fighting games, just look at freaking SC4, do people really want future Capcom fighting game turning into … THAT? Just sign the freaking thing, no sign up, only take 20 seconds.

SC competitively community has been on decline since SC2. SC2 was released in arcades, but it was sustained on console. Also SC players do NOT have a vast arcade background. The two communities are totally different and should NOT be compared. The SF community has a much tighter fan base that span arcade AND console. It’s been like this for years in the SF community with a slight tilt in the favor of arcade players. Still a console only SF game will not kill the franchise. Our top players will not abandon the game because it’s on console. all of the top players are already playing on console already, can you think of any top player who DOESN’T play on console in the US?

Hell online play will work out better for Japan anyway. They have fucking fiber country wide. Their online games are much better and less laggy. Online play is only sucky for us American players, they’ll be fine. It’s really all up to them, but the medium for them to level up is there.

As dead as the arcade scene is in the US . There needs to be an arcade release! As many stated before japan is a huge aspect to the competition. Also it will most likely look like SC 4 if there is no arcade release. Its a bummer cuz my scene relies on console tourneys at peoples houses because our arcades are ghetto and suck. Ex: San Diego arcades have GG XX Reloaded instead of AC wtf?? but i could drive up two hours to AI and fight some good competition. The US arcade scene can always come back but you need games like these to bring it back. SF IV is one of the more casual competitive fighters around and im even surprised to see some of my friends interested in it. With new installments such as SSFIV you will see new blood to play against and this could strengthen our scene . Sadly if there is no arcade release there will be little to learn on from others and lets just face it! Tourney play is a hell lot better then online. Online is getting there but it doesnt have the aesthetic values you get from an arcade.

I love arcade, but there is no saving them. And again, do NOT compare SC4 to SF. There are far more things that factor into it then just a console only release.

Arcades have bounced back several times, but let’s see why they have. In the early 80s, the arcades died because of the economy and the lack of quality games in them. That’s okay, because Japanese companies started making games using and arcades got more variety. So everything was good.

In the early 90s, pretty much the same thing. Basically, arcade downfalls have previously always been about the quality of games in the arcades. I remember in the late 80s and early 90s how arcades were saturated with nothing but beat em ups. And even then you could still find cabinets in every convienient store, and find an arcade in every city in EVERY state. Why? Because arcades were still superior to console. There was no incentive for people to abandon arcades back then.

Fast forward to 10 years ago when console hardware caught up to arcade hardware, and you’d see the difference. Arcades started closing left and right. Cities with tons of arcades were baron within periods of a few years. Sure Cali may have held on, but other places suffered.

Bottomline, there are no more arcade comebacks. This isn’t the days of the early 80s where you can make a great game like Pac-man or SFII and all of sudden you bring the arcades back to life. No the overall impracticality of arcades are obvious at far too many levels. Arcades are either inconvenient, costly, and offer no real direct competition for console and online gaming. how are arcades going to ever compete with that? They can’t, it’s over. As sad as it is to admit, arcade gaming is dead in the USA.

It’ll die in Japan eventually too, since there is little practical reason to have arcades there too. It’s embedded into their culture there, but Ono is Japanese and he didn’t find a reason to put the game in arcades. I wonder why? I have read that Japan arcades are in a decline, probably not to USA level, and probably not a rapid decline, but even arcades there are dying to some degree. It’s time to move onto the new era.

Poll needed a third choice

Yes, the game deserves to see an arcade release, but it won’t kill the series if it doesn’t.

SSF4 will live and thrive if the game is better then SF4. We won’t know until after the game is out if it will be.

It is true that lately some arcades have been closing but the majority of them are in smaller areas with less population. And even though some have closed down in larger cities, new ones are still popping up as well.

It truely IS embedded into their culture. Sometimes GG players will ask me about how the scene is back in the US, and when I tell them we have almost zero arcades and everyone plays at someone’s house, they are absolutely shocked! They just cant fathom such a concept!

Why in the hell would I sign a petition that I don’t agree with? That’s fundamentally fucked up.

PS: Pardon my language.

If this is true and no Arcade Version for SSF4 maybe JAP arcades can do this …

PS3 inside Cab…

Charge by the hour insted of per game or wtv … its not the end of the world :S

I think that Capcom should do a limited arcade release in large cities at the very least. Or they could even do an arcade release after the console version comes out. Even though I can’t just expect Capcom to hop aboard the “titanic” that is the arcade industry, i think that at this point in time it would be the right thing to do.

SFIV is one the better and more successful arcade fighters and im sure it has brought in a lot of money for game centers in large cities like tokyo and osaka.

Personally i think that japanese arcades need street fighter more than street fighter needs japanese arcades. But i still understand that aspect of japanese culture and i hope that capcom changes their mind about this.

***Maybe arcades in japan could be like big console free play areas that you pay for a monthly membership or a per-day pass. There are certainly many other types of public gaming areas, such as LAN centers, that could set a standard for a sort of “new school” japanese arcade.

I think that if this doesn’t work out, someone in japan will think of a new way to do Game Centers, and they will make big bucks doing it. im not too worried.

(but i did sign the petition anyway to help out)
