UMK3 used 3/5 and 4/7 Grand Finals I think. UMK3 matches went by super fast as well.
Why not do 3/5 the entire tourney, including grand finals?
You mean about as long as AE grand finals if they have two 3/5 sets?
we tried 3/5 in norcal on one than more occasion, it took a reallllllllllllllllllllly long time
if I could vote 10 times no I would, bc I got shit to do in the morning after sessions
not sure about this, i mean if people wanna try it fine but i’d say do it for the remaining month 1/2 of vanilla. With the DHC glitch gone in ultimate games will be longer and the fact that they are saying ultimate is more of a tactical / zoning game than vanilla was, expect longer matches. I don’t really wanna see a 4/7 grand finals all the time even if the players are badass.
Also it’s up to the tourny organizer… I’d say if it’s a MARVEL ONLY tourny then go for it but as long as SF4 is still in the picture a 3/5 format is not gonna fly. SF4 takes up way too much time and still currently more people sign up for SF4 than marvel. Hoping that will change when ultimate hits. But with SFxT around the corner as well I don’t see 3/5 happening.
I wouldn’t do it at Starbase mostly because (for a good reason) Starbase/Ramnation starts at/around 11pm, so yeah lol.
Sorry to say, I don’t watch AE.
oh shit I’m a cylon :cybot:
I’d like to see 3 out of 5 for top 8 matches at least.Maybe 4/7 grand finals?
The thing is about 3 out of 5 in pools and semis, is that it makes it that much harder to determine whether the tournament will run on time or not.
Ideally, yeah every set in a tournament would be a FT10 or FT20 or whatever. Then you’d know for sure who was on top.
But we have to be practical. If events were 3/5, a Marvel tournament with 100+ people could take all 3 days without time for much else. As it is, a Top 8 takes about 90 minutes to watch which is perfect.
If you really have to know if you’re better than someone or not, that’s what FT10 and money match type stuff is for. Tournaments reward some different traits of players, like consistency and nerves, adapting quickly and so on.
I would like to see the “Marvel Teams” format changed because that shit is just annoying. 1 match per player and it winds up being nonstop button checks.
Meh, I say 3/5 for the top 8, keep everything else the same.
Normally I disagree with any changes made to tournament/in-game rules. They usually just don’t go through and well, I think you should just take the game as it is or leave it (the only exception being Smash Bros, but that’s a different story).
But I actually agree this time around. Of course it will always depend on the amount of people. This rule won’t fly so easily for something like EVO, but for smaller tournaments I think this is a very good option. The speed of the matches in Marvel is really fast, a 2/3 could be over in 3-4 minutes. That includes players sitting down, checking buttons, picking characters (often twice), etc. That easily takes up a minute if not more. A 3/5 honestly wouldn’t be that much of a stretch in a smaller tournament setting.
Something a lot of players here won’t care about but probably should is that 3/5 is a lot more fun for newcomers or players who simply aren’t as good. A tournament involves payment, and playing 4 matches where you lose 4 times really quickly just isn’t fun. With a 3/5, low-level players will be granted more of a chance and a longer sitting against better players. Basically, you’ll get more bang for your buck, and new players will come around more often, which means the community will grow.
Although I also agree that 4/7 grand finals is really excessive considering the bracket reset. I think it’s easily something we, as players, can test out during the rest of Vanilla’s lifespan. If it turns out to be better, the 3/5 format can be used for Ultimate. If not, no big deal, the 2/3 format sticks around for Ultimate.
Your logic is infallible.
If it becomes the norm, I hope EVO would go to 3/5. Due to their pristine organization, I went faster going 3-2 at EVO than I went 0-2 at Starbase one night LOL.
Okay, maybe not but it sure as hell felt like it.
I totally agree with 3/5.
Look at every other game played. Marvel the only one with 1 round, others have best of 3 or best 5 rounds and they do 2 matches. Marvel 1 round best of 3 matches.
I said it before, Final Round had 3/5 in its top 8 and it’s one of the best MvC3 top 8 we have seen so far. Do you guys realize that the infamous bionic arm moment wouldn’t have happened had the Marn/Combofiend match been a 2/3?
We all saw/were at EVO, and we all enjoyed it. Some of us saw people/got randomed out in both games. In a game like the Marvel Vs. series, I think that it is in the best interest that all tourney organizers for a change in the tourney format. The games in the marvel Vs. series can end before you even know what happened. The second game you will most likely be dong what you failed to do the first game, and that doesn’t guarantee a win unless you are really adaptive. Both games can end quick due t…
Found the old topic

Your logic is infallible.
I said everything I needed to say about that topic 6 months ago when people where first bitching about the damage. I don’t feel the need to repeat myself.
I found this funny:
time is the only issue with this, otherwise I don’t see why not
1.5 months later…

we tried 3/5 in norcal on one than more occasion, it took a reallllllllllllllllllllly long time

That’s a sudden change of heart… >.>
