Petition against SOPA

The founders seemed to view democracy as evil. So much of the mechanisms of our govt function to prevent us from falling into the pitfalls of pure democracy. Representatives, in part, are one of these safeguards. So is the right to petition (lobbying). Our representation in the house is intended to be further buffered by the senate, which is intended to be more insulated from the will of the masses (which may or may not be the case with all the fulltime career politicians we have). But it doesnt stop there, you could actually go on and on about our govt is set up to thwart pure democracy… They seemed downright paranoid about the erosion of civil liberties over time. They knew they were trying to do something that had never been done before.
I think that the plan the founders set up would work very well if the guidelines in the constitution were followed. Since they are not, I think the only thing that can preserve much of our liberty is a well-informed public.

You need to be banned again.

Congressman: “What does this bill actually do???”

::: Lobbyist hastily pushes the Congressman onto the House floor :::

MPAA Lobbyist: “Don’t worry about it. It’s all good; just quickly pass this bill that we’ve already written up for you. It’s great for the economy and you can claim all the credit for it! Oh, and here’s your check for you campaign funding, Mr. Senator.”

Congressman: “I’m a U.S. Representative.”

Lobbyist: "Representative … Senator … whatever, good luck to you on your next term. :wgrin: "
“And if you can get it passed in a speedy manner, we’re prepared to give you a bonus check for your effort to help us … err, America .”

Wow, that’s alarming and terrifying!

I voted for a person to be in government, not a corporation. I also would like the know the person running my city/state/country has enough sense to earn enough money to run a proper campaign, rather than have McCains/MPAA/RIAA/McDonalds/GM/Ford/etc throw a ton of money at them, so they can win an election, and then we have somebody in office who owes favours to a corporation.

Politicians should NOT need any money from ANYBODY, corporation or grassroots. These are people who will be running where I live. They better have a damn good track record already, rather than just get their name out their due to corporate influence (ie - Sarah Palin).

Not to mention, have you seen the Republicans and Democrats? These are groups of super rich people who run corporations. They do NOT need fucking handouts, people.

and how did I know that Chris Dodd would be an old ass white guy?

edit: My current worry is that Lamar Smith is already the sponsor of another bill. H.R. 1981 Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011. What’s to stop him from tacking SOPA onto the anti child porn bill? Who in their right mind would vote against an anti-child porn bill? SImilar to how they managed to allow US Citizens to be detained as terrorists by adding shit to a military spending bill right before Christmas

I would find it rather frightening to live in a purely “majority rules” state, myself, especially when sensationalism reigns in a given society.

I cant tell if you agree with my post or not

then you obviously don’t know what the fuck you posted, as mine is quite clear.

also, this made me chuckle:

Seeing as I posted the exact same thing that I quoted from you, I can only assume you are in agreement with me
thanks for clarifying, i guess

Not surprising. This administration LOVES to do that with shit that fucks everyone over. And Dodd sounds like Piglet suffering from palsy.

He openly says live on FOX news that donations are used for bribes.

Temporary good news?

A bit more interesting is when you look at the total campaign contributions made by the music, TV and film industry to all the officials pictured.

Kind of like how in a job, you don’t agree with a company’s viewpoint…but the company speaks for your views.

Nova Theme goes with a Revolution, people.

Lamar Smith’s other project: an invasive online surveillance law called the Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011.

Gentlemen… I shit you not.

Well, if it wasn’t confirmed before, America is now definitely confirmed for joke country.

Fuck this bullshit, I’m moving.

Looks like Im gonna have to kill Lamar Smith myself.

His name is Lamar. His parents are Eloise and Jamal. He is as white as the driven snow.

Does not compute.
