Pelican PS2 Real Arcade Stick Mod

So I opened up my arcade stick and noticed that the wires are soldered onto the buttings kind of strangely. Not really experienced with arcade sticks so I was wondering why 3 buttons were wired to one another. There was a black wire going from one to the other and to the other. In any case I suppose that’s how I should put it back together when I get my parts shipped in.

Is there anything else I need to know when it comes to getting this done? I never opened up the stick before so I thought it could just be a drop in sort of replacement but I don’t mind doing a little soldering. Would it be wise to get a couple dozen qd’s so I don’t have to go through the hassle of resoldering whenever I open the thing back up?

Yeah. I’d recommend taking a picture of the current wiring. It’s nice to have when you want to double check your work or if you’re doubting yourself.

If there’s a wire going around to all of the buttons then that’s your ground. It will need to be reconnected like that with the new buttons/stick. QDs are good if you want to replace a button/art without the hassle.

Good luck with the modding. I myself can’t wait to start modding/customizing a stick - problem is, need to find one to mod :stuck_out_tongue:

Post pics once your done!

Sure thing, though it’s not going to be the most attractive mod per se. :stuck_out_tongue: If anything it’ll look more plain than it already does. Now if only Lizard Lick would hurry up, hehe.

They just chose to daisy chain the grounds very strangly. You dont have to do it their way. I have modded this stick before with Happ parts years ago.

What’s another (less strange) way to go about it? I just want to do the job as cleanly as possible, making future modifications not too much of a hassle.

I haven’t seen the inside of a Pelican, but here’s what my SFAC daisy chain looks like. The black ground wire you were referring to just needs to go around and connect to all of the buttons. It’s the red wire (obviously) in mine.

Sorry for the late reply. I have a collection of screws so I just used any flat head screw that went hand and hand in size with the stock screws. You just need the screws to be almost similar in width as they have to go through the case holes and the mounting plate. Other than that the length (of course not too long so they won’t fit the box haha) and look is up to you. Nothing really complicated about it.

Out of curiosity, are there any pictures floating around of these things modded? I’ve been trying to look at around and most threads are several years old. This results in the pictures usually no longer being available. I’m just very curious as to what others have done.

I too have the Universal one, and trying to find if anyone has gotten it to work with an adapter. The one I got from Amazon was a failure, the Ant Commandos one, but it doesn’t work with much it seems, may be defective. It works only in one mode with either the Dual Shock 2 or the Arcade Stick, and even then doesn’t work correctly.

Are you using the Universal Stick too? If so do you know which adapter from there that you purchased?

ANT Commandos converter & universal

Another Universal owner here. I JUST got the Ant Commandos converter, it also does not work for me. Clearly people have the non-universal version of this controller OR they’re using another kind of converter. Can everyone list the converters they are using if they have the universal? Looks like this converter is going back to eBay… :arazz: Too bad, it works great with regular PS2 pads.

So I’m ordering parts for my pelican, going with the IL-euro stick. What converter do I need to make it ps3 compatible. Also, I’d like to know where the heck I can get a bottom for this thing. I got it from a buddy, and the piece that covers the bottom and encloses all the wires and what not is missing.

Assuming your Pelican is a PS1/2 PCB, you can either use: Pelican converter, Real converter, In-Pin, or a Mayflash SuperJoybox 3.

All of the above converters have no lag problems.

I hate to beat a dying horse but the real question here is if it will work with the Universal, not the PS2 only version. The PCB inside is different to accommodate the additional connectors for the XBox and Gamecube.

What about the bottom piece? Anybody want to sell me their’s?

Heres what I did with mine (i have 0 construction skills and it shows lol) … The adapter that I use works fine on the ps3

Where did you find that PS2->PS3 adapter as you clearly have the Universal Stick? I love the L brackets too!

The bottom is pretty much cork board, you should be able to get a piece cut to size at Home Depot, etc. If you want some measurements I’d be glad to get them for you.

I’d appreciate that, once I get my parts in I don’t want the bottom to be open like it is now.

I think I bought it here…http://www.mayflash.com/pc/pc013/pc013-1.htm I can’t seem to recall it was a awhile back… I know it was from HK though.

That looks great, you’re just getting me more hyped up to finally do mine. Did you solder the wires on or did you use the qd’s?
