PDX Weekly Tourney / Casuals

I was jking

Well I got the place clean. Bout to watch this Akira bluray and chill.

Also, I had to take a job tomorrow at 2:30 so I won’t be home until probably 6-7, it’d be easiest just to call it off for tomorrow. The timing is too awkward. I will make up for it with some mid week sessions.

Blanka’s ultra isn’t unblockable. I’m almost positive it hits on the first frame at close range though. Like that comment said, the first hit is low but doesn’t do any damage, followed by an overhead, so you have to block low then high for the rest of the ultra. Still though, it does like 200 chip damage… ow.

nice im glad a blanka player read that and commented, thanks for attempting to clear this up for me.
so basically my first inclination was right, i messed up the timing on blocking it. but instead of being c.blocking for too long like i thought at first i actually stood up to block too fast? allowing the non damaging low part of his ultra to break my block and then get hit with the jumping part of his ultra(no time to evade cause of the distance(close to me on my wakeup) im assuming). does that sound right holyrobot? so its not unblockable under any circumstance, but it can hit you before you might be aware its active I.E. the first hit hits low for 0 damage but sets you up for the rest of the ultra if your in range for that first hit.

200 chip? >.< harsh

You shouldn’t be getting hit by an ultra that isn’t combo’d into to… ever.
As far as standing up too fast goes, wait to hear the sound of you blocking the low hit to stand up if you cant eyeball it.
I don’t see how you couldn’t be aware that its active, with the whole animation of Blanka activating the ultra
I’d say its better to take the 200 chip instead of avoiding it. On block Blanka rolls back into the air and is vulnerable for you to punish (hopefully that 200 chip gave you ultra).
If you don’t block, Blanka just rolls on the ground getting more or less instant recovery. During the roll he is fairly hard to punish as he is covered in electricity.

Sorry if any of that wasn’t needed.

Random ultras are stupid, but do hit sometimes. That’s just their nature, being random.

I’d say it’s better not to take 200 chip instead of taking it. Most characters can ultra on Blanka’s way down and connect before taking any chip damage, or do an Ex move that has some invincibility property. Even if you don’t have any meter, most characters have ways of escaping the chip damage, which is good to know about during times that you can’t afford to be chipped to death. Shotos can dash back while Blanka rises and jump over with a tatsu easily enough. Even a character like Gen can get over with a regular special, genkirou. I think dashing after Blanka and punishing from the other side is also possible though character dependent.

One of the interesting things about Blanka’s ultra is its crossup potential. I haven’t gotten it down yet, but top players in Japan can cause a 50/50 guessing game after a forward throw on what side the ultra will hit on. It’s risky, but there’s literally no way to tell which way to block. Blanka can also combo into ultra but the timing is a 1-frame link which = a ridiculous risk of missing it and having the ultra be blocked/punished.

The first hit is from Blanka pounding the ground. This hits low and if you far enough away you don’t need to worry about this. I’m nearly positive Blanka has no hitbox on the way up in the air and his hitbox starts on the way down as an overhead. The rest of the hits are mid, so you can block them standing up or crouching. Blanka is punishable while moving up in the air. I’ve been able to soul throw a Blanka ultra without taking any chip while he was still in the air and I’m sure there are other moves that work just as well but I haven’t tested it out (probably EX shoryuken would either stuff it or trade).

PS - Blanka’s super does have a hitbox on the way up in the air and is used as his antiair option. Ultra isn’t really a good antiair unless you predicted the jump instead of using it on reaction.

I hit confirmed the ultra off the startup of a low poke, just to clarify from my end what I was doing, but noone wants to hear that because they know better.

To be honest I am not real keen on responses like the one I received last night after my contribution to the “discussion”, even if you can somehow prove your point its not really worth getting upset over unless you are the type of person that gets angry at their friends, and that is the type of person I don’t really care to be around. Flexibility will serve you better than rigidity in most discussions I believe, so try to be more laid back and not so defensive.

All around yesterday there was a lot of argumentative talk that wasn’t productive in any way. I think that if people can’t be civil and have a good time even in the face of adversity they should just keep their mouths shut about it, or go home if you’re too grumpy. Being comfortable with each other doesn’t mean we dump our baggage on each other.

It’s not a lot to ask, so I am asking for more polite behavior in the future because I certainly don’t want to be made to feel like certain people are disruptive. I have no doubts that we can have a room full of comfortable people playing to get better and treating it more like a school than a barroom brawl.

Off to work. Don’t be life scrubs. Treat each other well.

EDIT: Removed, problem solved.

I agree with everything Justin said here.

If the atmosphere doesn’t change from this negative shit, I won’t be attending many more sessions at Jeromie’s. When there are so many other venues opening up to us, we don’t have to take this kind of bs.

Sounds like a fun night

We had fun playing VF5 at my place after. That was way fun.

You and Justin are two of the biggest problem players since the beginning, it was you two fighting and then coming here and bitching about other fighters behind their back.

You both agree about me never listening because I will never put up with any of the bullshit negativity you guys spew constantly, you set the example for other people and when they follow it you have succeeded in ruining the atmosphere.

I love learning from other people but when I have something to say noone wants to listen. About the game and life, when I am wrong I know it and admit before needing to be told, I don’t need lessons about myself from people like you. I am fully aware of myself, you might try it sometime. I will have plenty of great sessions with the whiners gone.

In fact, on top of all that, trying to turn this on me after you guys’ behavior yesterday is simply the kind of BS you profess to want to avoid. Take responsibility for your own actions and have a little respect for the people around you and you won’t get told.

Kurt never had problems with anyone and we played tons of games without getting in fights before I let everyone else in, the change in his behavior is something very noticeable because of the way you guys treat him. I miss those days when we could disagree but still enjoy each other’s company.

Lol. This thread has become hilarious quick.

I am sorry, I did not mean Ronnicle’s reply, I meant Kurt’s last night when I listened to you guys argue for 5 minutes before saying what I saw, which was a response to a poke I saw come out, maybe it wasn’t a poke, maybe Kurt is right, but what I saw seemed to be worth nothing at all but a rude response. I didn’t like the response he gave me because it really wasn’t like him to act that way. He normally takes the time to say “hey maybe we disagree but we respect each other enough to leave it at that”. Last night he got hazed pretty good and the vibe was less than positive.

I also agree 100% that Joe should reel it in a bit from his craziness last night, and I don’t think he should have touched you, but I am pretty certain that he already knows that and probably regrets any harm he may have caused since he is really a pretty positive guy. All I can say is I feel for Joe because some shit went down for him recently and it’s gotta be hard to deal with. Allow me to apologize for everyone and say once again that all I am looking for in players here is people who can stay positive in the face of adversity.

Yeah, I have laid it on you pretty hard once or twice Justin and I apologize. I don’t dislike you, I kind of like you actually because you are a pretty straight up person and most of what you say is pretty useful and interesting. You can’t fault me for trying to have my own opinions in the face of yours when you are delivering them so forcefully to people, just agree to disagree and move on instead of taking it so personally. We all have our moments, and I try to keep mine to a minimum.

EDIT: Removed, problem solved.

im assuming “we” means everyone at your house, because my personal behavior has not changed at all or been effected negativity by anyone recently. i also havent been in any fights and do enjoy everyone’s company, so i find my name being involved a bit dramatic tbh but thats also me being vain, not wanting people to think something about me that they would easily know the truth about if they took the time to know me.

unnecessary man.

my response was not meant to be rude though i suppose i did not explain myself, i thought you’d understand what i meant and that i try to cover all my bases before claiming something. so i apologize that i did not consider how i may have sounded, i was basically just caught up in the blanka’s ultra discussion(not argument).

HolyRobot was nothing but informative:tup:. ive known jermoie for awhile, long enough to say that he does listen to genuine advice and when you debate with him you have to be ready for points of view you may have not considered, which may be because hes almost twice my age. he does not say things to hear his own voice, he tries to be informative and helpful even if the subject of the debate is a bit stern and does not try to imply negativity behind his words, much like i do not.
when i read about all this i was genuinely surprised. i arrived happy and left happy, with none of these kinds of things on my mind. and was bummed that Saturday got canceled due to a late running job.

i agree that your respectful as fuck though, but if we’re talking about “people talking shit behind backs” the only person ive heard that from was panda.
upon hearing your(panda) opinion about jeromie i tried to see your point of view and just judged it as a “harsh” statement because i tend to speak only for myself. but man if you feel that way towards jeromie then i think hed probly appreciate you not coming over, shame as that may be. if you two cant enjoy each other’s company without having negative feelings then idk what to tell you.

i was chillin and then i see my all this shit, with my name all in it too. we need to get along.

I’ve stuffed his ultra on the way back down before, I guess what I meant to say is its better to be safe than sorry for me. Just the difference in our play style I guess. I like to play super safe.
To each his own!
