Are your FPS set on Fixed?
Yes, it’s on fixed. Here’s my benchmark: http://imageshack.us/f/15/unled1xz.jpg/ - all ingame, and the few config settings should be correct, with all the stuff previously mentioned in all the threads here on SRK.
It might just be my internet acting up this evening, but I’m still re-configuring my drivers, checking my 3d/gaming settings and auto-tuning my gpu clocking just to make sure theres nothing getting overheated or so, etc etc.
Also defragmenting and trying to clean up my hdd’s, hopefully it should work after all this. I suppose it will work out in the end, but my stuff should be quite ok configured as it is, due to previous competetive FPS/PC gaming and always optimizing settings.
So far AE pc have been a bit bittersweet, with having to use an old keyboard to get past the intro, and these random stutters.
These stutters or lag spikes happen to me to and are caused by an unstable connection, usually wireless on either your or the opponents part. There will be times in online matches where you get hit by a lag spike mid combo and will cost you the match. I have noticed that when i play wireless against people on wired it happens to both of us, but if we are both playing on a wired stable connection none of these stutters or lag spikes happen. I have a fairly old router but a really new wireless card so the wireless isn’t too reliable.
Wait, do you have vsync forced from the gpu control panel or what? O_O
If you are getting any kind of slowdown or stuttering, if you have AA turned on (I don’t care if it’s 2x), turn it off.
@ Danime, 8x MSAA serves no purpose but to slow down your game. Yes I am aware it blurs edges and improves the image quality, but things move so fast in this game you do not have time to look at jaggies.
On every PC I’ve tried this game on, turning AA completely off nearly doubles the frame-rate from near 60 or 70 to well over 120 FPS. AA + Motion Blur + Online = Good luck having that run smoothly 100% of the time. As soon as I turned off AA I have yet to see an in-game stutter or hiccup in well over 50 ranked matches, and 100 endless matches, all green bar and yellow bar players, and previously it didn’t stutter all that often, but annoyed me when it did. For this game, I see absolutely no need to have AA turned on, and it is always 100% smooth no matter what without it. Additionally, if you use the Steam Overlay and you have AA turned on, you will slow down your game to a crawl, at least in my experience on 3 separate gaming PCs.
In regards to people saying there’s not many people online, I wish you would be more observant. You don’t see very many games because they are filling up so fast you don’t have time to see them except for those that are not filled. It’s very common for me to try and join one person’s game with 6 lobbies available, getting the “unable to join” message because someone else joined first, and then searching again to see “No opponents found” message. I host a game after this, and within seconds someone joins me. There are a ton of people online on the PC version at all times. I’ve been able to find games with green bar, A rank PC players at all hours of the night, every night since launch.
If a computer runs the game fairly well even with AA and AF turned on, does it matter? I find that this game isn’t very demanding, and if I’m getting acceptable framerates with them on, would it make a difference? Thanks
AF is not a factor here, only AA. With AA on 2x or 4x or 8x, the image quality only improved a tad bit compared to when it’s turned off, but the performance gains when it’s off are night and day. It matters because you don’t want acceptable, average frame-rates hovering around 60 FPS because that means your minimum frame-rate is below 60 FPS. For a game like this, you want to maximize performance over quality no matter what. Your minimum frame-rate should be well above 60 FPS. You’re not going to be able to stare at the jaggies present in a scene anyways, you’re going to be focused on beating your opponent, so just turn off AA and you’ll have a smoother playing game as a result. If you want to leave AA on, go ahead, but remember why your game slows down when it starts to slow down.
However, if you have an absolute monster of a PC and are getting well over 100 FPS with AA turned on, then by all means, keep it on. But benchmarking and getting a barely passing 60 - 70 FPS with AA on means you’re going to encounter slowdown because of it.
Okay thanks for that info, this is the first time I’ve played a fighting game on the PC (I’m used to BlazBlue on PS3). With C8x AA the benchmark shows me at 124 FPS. Would Vsync or Fixed frame be preferred for this game? Thanks again
Personally, I play with Vsync on always. Otherwise I tend to get some screen tearing. My pc runs the game about the same as yours. It seems smoother to me with variable framerate, but most people say to use fixed when you go online. Also, I totally agree with AL3ZAY about AA. I leave it off.
Seriously the only thing that really annoys me right now is that everyone is playing 4-8 player endless all the fucking time. Does no one ever play 2 player endless??? I create them and someone might join in 10 minutes…
I just wanted to pop in and ask about the load screen. So I was playing today and I was mashing start at the load screen and it started faster than usual. I think if you have a fast computer you actually skip most of that VS screen that shows the characters. Anyone else notice this? Sometimes it says waiting for player, but I imagine that if both players hit start at that screen the game would start faster.
Edit: C2Q I’m totally with you on endless. Why do people want to wait in a lobby? I create a 2 man endless and set the rounds to 5 because I want to get as much game time in as possible, and nobody joins!
Like everything else, gameplay seems to be best when in your region. Overseas is like, nearly impossible, man. I dont see much difference from SSF4.
I know what you mean. I usually do 3 player endless. I don’t mind watching one match, in case I want to step away for a moment. Having to sit through 4 or more, though? No thanks. What system are you playing on? I haven’t had to wait very long at all so far on the pc version.
I noticed the loading screen skips if you press start as well. At first I thought it was just a fluke, and that the game just loaded really fast, but you can definitely press start during the VS. loading screen to skip it if both players PCs are fast enough. When you’re playing offline VS it’s instant.
In regards to endless, for me, I like to watch other people play so I can learn from them, or learn how they handle certain situations vs. my character or characters I like to play as. Yeah I like to get in as much game time as possible, but it’s a lot of fun to invite 4 or 5 of the best players I know and just voice chat and whoop on each other for a few hours, trying to get a solid win streak against them all. The largest rooms I host are 6 players, 8 players is too many for me, because if I lose, I end up doing something else for a while and skipping my turn anyways.
Kache, I have vsync forced via D3Doverrider.
I just put it on for the benchmark. I can play perfectly fine with everything maxed like that, but as I said before, I don’t use it during actual gameplay. Everything is set for performance, AA off etc, when I play. And I use a wired connection of course, but I do that on my ps3 as well, and I still don’t have these kinds of stutters there. But after all this cleaning up, defraging, checking settings and all that, I’m fairly sure the problem isn’t on my end.
I play on PC. Its ridiculous. Does no one like player matches anymore? wtf
I think people dont really want to bother with ranked because the points will get jacked up with people using mods to increase their score.
Load times are faster it is hands down the best version of the game.
Wrong buddy were arent that many because the retail copy is still not everywhere avaible and you can easily tell that by looking at the PP and BP ranking of chars. On XBL every char is capped at #9999 that means shit ton of players playing. On the pc version i cant say the same for half of the chars.
PP and BP are now online stored not every tard like in sf iv can mod this.
2 is boring.
3 is better, because when you lose you have time to think what you did wrong, and plan a strategy for the next match.
Did you try not forcing anything?
