PC: SSF4 AE - How is it online?

That’s a bit of an overstatement. Two tournament players have said PC online is pretty good, doesn’t really mean “the pros say PC is the best”. Also even though the PC version can provide the best available online experience for this game (if you have an appropriate setup), it’s still ass compared to offline.

Ok so I just ran fraps with AE and the frames never drop below 60. By never I mean it dropped once to 58. So what is it cuz it aint the pc?

No, and I didnt say they did, but nice try. By saying “(except if you are playing the PC version)” you are obviously a PC hater.

I will proudly state that I hate the PC version of SSF4:AE.

:arazz:

Glad we cleared that up!

I would love to actually see the ping of my opponent instead of a random status bar, where nobody could say anything about the quality of the connection.

For people who have problem with the menu (slow, endless loading, crash in fullscreen…) here is two tips that help me to resolve all my problems

 1. Set RenderingThread=OFF in the file My document\CAPCOM\SUPERSTREETFIGHTERIV/config.ini
 2. try to launch the game in windows 95 or 98 mode compatibility

With this, the game is working perfectky on my config - Win XP SP3 - ATI RadonX1900XT - Catalyst 10.2

If you aren’t a PC hater because you’re in love with your console version etc., you need to know some details about how to run it top notch online:

1. Set frames to fixed in option menu. Force vsync with d3doverrider.

2. Use fraps or another program to record your FPS count and check whether it falls below 60 or not. Tweak your settings as low as possible to get 60 MINIMUM FPS. A small detail, online gaming uses more resources than offline gaming. If you manage to get 60 min fps offline tweak even lower the settings to be on the safe side online, you need the reserves, trust me. Don’t tweak all the setting on ‘max’ with 70-130 fps in the ingame benchmark if you cannot get 60 fps minimum.I suspect, a lot of people who complain here, either tweak the settings too high or have a weak computer that cannot warrant 60 fps minimum with the lowest config.

3. Use fast, wired internet connection if possible, try to play with people in your area. Open the required ports in your router, don’t run downloads and other applications which require bandwidth in background.

4. If you play with adapters for input make sure, you bought ones which don’t have input lags. Any cheap adapter allows you to play with input devices from consoles but most of them aren’t lag free.

All other issues are capcom related, they have to patch it. You can’t do much except for waiting…

By the way, don’t expect capcom to patch your PC hardware. If you can’t fulfill the requirements 1-4, don’t expect the PC experience to be better than on consoles. On a sidenote, PC experience online > consoles in SSF4 AE big time with the right settings…

Thanks, this may be very helpful info for some configs.

What does rendering thread even do?

No. Software acts differently towards different hardware, and software configurations all the time. This is precisely why I think Capcom is at fault, as they did not iron the game out very well. This game clearly has a problem and cant realistically be considered the best version of the game by anyone with the least bit of common sense in regards to computers

I was wondering too. not sure I know yet tho…looks like some sort of optimization, mine works better with it on. maybe better for multicores?

From what I recall, it enables multi processors and/or threads!

Sooo…isnt it better if i leave it on since im using a quad core???

People who say PC version is the same as 360 need a wake up call.

I feel bad for the people who aren’t having the same wonderful experience as I.

Step your tech. knowledge up.

I do spend a lot of time in Training mode, offline casuals with friends, and Online, on the 360 version of SSFIV and Vanilla SFIV, and the PC version of AE.
As well as hours upon hours of SFIV at the Arcade when it first came out, as well as every weekend, all day playing AE at the Arcade for 2 months.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
The game.
Runs.
Flawlessly.

And your bigotry doesn’t change that.
I’m not pinning the blame on your machines, I’ve explained that already, if a game works fine on one setup and doesn’t run well on a different setup of equal or greater power, the blame is on Capcom.
All I’m saying is THE GAME RUNS FUCKING GREAT ON MY MACHINE, so stop running around spouting that you’re a special snowflake who is the only person smart enough to see stuttering.

Only the graphics are better on PC. If u have a good connection and legless TV its the same on x360. I have both version and if u meet other ppl that use the same good specs the experience is on both good.

Yes leave it on, you can check this by minimising the game window and going to your task manager. The performance tab in the task manager must show
25% CPU load (or lower) on a quad core with rendering thread set to OFF.

This is good for Single Core processors only. In windows 95/98 compatibility mode, only one core is used. For me, it shows 50% CPU load.

I’m still not satisfied with my AE experience. It’s still lagging. Still search for improving opportunities

SSF4AE.exe uses 50-60% CPU capacity. I guess this is too high???

I’m on a 2-3 year old TOSHIBA SATELLITE Gaming Laptop Core 2 Duo 2,2 GHz, 512 Geforce 8700 GT etc.
60-70 FPS+ A Rank, Minimal Details, Fixed Framerate, No AntiA etc. Benchmark suggesting higher Graphics

I used this and it worked great for around an hour. Next time I played it crashes it :frowning: If I close d3d it works fine but it was a lot better with it for input lag. Any ideas?
