I don’t think we need a front page article for this.
“Skullgirls - Mike Z increases game speed by 3%!(?)”
Just seems so silly.

Well I slept on it, and I came to the conclusion of in favor of the speed increase. I feel like much of what I do is in is a result of feeling the game is faster than it actually is. It’s a slight increase that I think might make timing more comfortable for some folks. For those who have found their groove, I’m sure they won’t have any problems adjusting. but I’ll be sure to give it a whirl at WNF and give some feedback.
Taking community input.
God bless Mike Z.
I say a faster game would be more fun but what do I know. This is my first fighting game I actually really like.
Yeah, I haven’t been this into a game since…well…since MVC2, haha.
I voted for faster but i would of picked a different option if it was available
that option would of been “Pick What you think is best Mike Z”
Fixed. Seriously though I’m pretty much on the same page as you Sanger. So many changes to the game - several of which have nothing to do with balance… they’re just personal preference… I mean whatever but there’s already only 1 other person in all of Guadalajara who I can play with. Nobody else in our community of 50+ people that meet every week for SF4, Marvel, and KOF are interested in it. Dino and I are the only ones trying to persuade everyone and my motivation to play it has been taking a giant nose dive lately with all the changes coming out. I’m sure I’ll give it a go post-patch but… I dunno… we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s frustrating when there is almost nobody to play with locally and online matchmaking doesn’t factor in the player’s skill level.
Yes. Please increase the speed!
Do it if it makes the game better, and please don’t let the majority of the decision rest on a forum poll.
Voted no, I kind of like slower fighting games, I cant stand the chaotic MvC3 speed.
Mike already said it won’t be at at MVC 2 level or even MVC3 3 level. Its fine if you just voted no because you prefer slower games, but your reasonings blew it out of proportions
I’d have to say no, mostly because I’m happy with the way it is.
Not too fast, not too slow. just riiiiiiight.
I would be fine if it was a bit faster.
Oh, it doesn’t. (^.^) But I always want more information. Plus, since this is PURELY aesthetic, everyone’s opinion is more useful than asking the public about, say, IPS changes.
So, I’m trying to get a feel of what exactly that means. If a Peacock is camping in the corner throwing bombs and item drops, isn’t it true that characters now will be able to get to the corner faster than before the speed change? So while Peacock is also faster, if she’s staying in one spot and zoning, it would now be easier to punish her, or at least, one could reach her quicker than before? Or am I missing something?
I keep wanting to have an open development process, but every time I mention anything in public I immediately regret it. Go internet.
That’s WHY I AM ASKING. “Hey, this doesn’t make any difference but I can mess with it, do you think it’d be an improvement or not?” You can say NO! You’d rather I not ask? What the heck.
(Also, “several of which”? This is the only thing I’ve even mentioned that’s not to directly address a balance issue or fix a bug…)
Factual correction - the online matchmaking ONLY factors in the player’s skill level, but it does so a bit too harshly. :^P
You’re missing something. :^S Have you never played a fighting game with Turbo choices?
How about a dumb analogy? Play the game and blink your eyes rapidly. Now imagine you edit out the blank spots - the game appears to run faster because you SEE less of it, even though everything really happens at the same speed.
If you would be able to reach the corner in 70 frames you can still reach the corner in 70 frames, because 70 frames still go by…just you (the player) don’t see 10 of them so in real time it now takes 60 frames. But if her airplane bomb were to land and let her call another one in 70 frames, it still lands in 70 frames…but you don’t see 10 of them, so to you (the player) it lands in 60 frames and she can throw another at that time. The relative speed of things doesn’t change. You can’t magically jump out of setups because your character jumps faster, since they DON’T jump faster. You can’t suddenly punish a gunshot with a HP if you couldn’t previously do that, since your HP isn’t ACTULLY faster.
Filter the thread to reads Mike’s post if you haven’t already.
The frame skip will happen more frequently (every 7th frame instead of 9th) making the game look/feel a little quicker. Frame data is completely unchanged.
The speed gap does not widen between the difference between the cast. Like Mike said its purely aesthetic. The movements will just feel slightly faster as your doing certain actions and that applies to the whole cast so no one gets “buffed” or “nerfed”. At best it will require some adjustments but adjustments are gonna happen anyway from the IPS change alone
So is it literally only aesthetic then, right? As in going back to my Peacock camping in the corner, before and after the speed increase, it takes the exact same amount of time for Valentine to get to the corner and catch (a stationary) Peacock?
That’s cool then, I mean I don’t see why not. I think the game already looks perfect, I don’t think I get it exactly lol, but whatever, I trust Mike’s judgement and you guys seem to be all for it. I don’t see how I can contest it if it doesn’t even effect gameplay at all.
ill say a yes. although im fine with it as it is, you did say it would be noticeable only in movement and not in links and chains, soo a yes for me
Not everything needs to be Turbo-sized. The speed’s perfect the way it is.
