Thank jebus. Then really other than being against change in general, I have no problem with it
I vote we have a speed selection similar to SF2: Championship Edition, i think thats the one that had all sorts of speed selections.
[edit] i only suggest it for those that want the âvanillaâ speed. But playing in the new Tourney mode will always has the default speed
The current speed is a little slow and by little I mean a lot. Adding 3 percent wonât ruin the game, but itâll open a door that you wonât be able to close. âItâs still too slowâ so on and so on and so on until you have Skull girls HD hyper fighting remix turbo edition 2012. I would have just sneaked it in and say itâs a random feature if you beat the boss you get a Turbo mode.
My firm belief is that I am okay with the change if you know how it will modify the game and think it will be fine. If punishes remain exactly the same, combos arenât lost because of skipped frames etc I think it could potentially be a good change. Though it feels like a really sudden and strange idea to make such a sweeping modification to the game in such a small time frame.
This feels a bit like a solution in search of a problem. Is there something that will be âfixedâ if there is a small speed increase? Or is it just preference? It is hard to tell without actually playing it sped up. I already feel like some resets/overheads/throws/mix ups are very difficult to defend at the current game speed. I donât want to see footsies and the neutral game become less important. I see a lot of responses that say speed it up so it will be like marvel but I mostly enjoy skullgirls for being unique when compared to marvel and not similar. Would this speed change affect throw tech window at all?
More generally thanks for asking for community input about the games development. I feel the skullgirls team doesnât get enough praise for being so open to community feedback.
Recovery is not fun, but itâs definitely needed to avoid having a homogenized game where just the character with the better specials has everything because everyone has the same movement options or everything is safe.
Double doesnât have a airdash, thatâs kind of unfun, but would also put her above and beyond the rest of the cast, same with making her DP safe.
Painwheel has to commit to flight for her movement, in that functions her strength and weakness, giving her a better ground dash changes her completely and she no longer has to commit to flight and changes match ups possibly completely in her favor.
OK, let me elaborate. I was thinking more along the lines of SF3, that moment towards the end of a fight when both players are back to the neutral game, trying to get that last hit. You move forward, anticipating a super, then hit down, anticipating a sweep, and dash back. Those kind of moments are what makes SF3 the best SF, in my personal opinion.
Skullgirls is loaded with those types of moments. If youâre reset back to neutral without any health you donât just go apeshit airdashing; you wait out your opponent, see what they will do. As a Filia player, I constantly threaten ringlet spire xx gregor samson. If Iâm against a Peacock, throwing Georges would be the proper reaction. Then it becomes a game of patience and reactions. I love this about Skullgirls.
Increasing the speed of the game will make reactions slightly harder (which as we all know is already a problem being taken care of with tech throws), so why do it? Itâs interesting to play a dancing game with your opponent. Increasing the speed will turn a game of reactions into a game of predictions, and Iâm 100% against that.
PS: Iâm pretty damn free, so donât insult me if this is extremely low level play Iâm discussing here. Itâs just what I enjoy.
Edit: I know the speed increase wonât make too much of a difference, but a difference none the less. Take my post with a grain of salt though, the game will be awesome at either 7f skip or 9f skip, and Iâm still going to play it either way.
Not having an option is totally different from having one that feels terrible and useless.
Hmm, is there a way to do the Normal/Turbo option, yet for Tournament Mode have a fixed standard?
I think before I vote on this it would be helpful to see the comparison. Take, like, Death Crawl or headless Cat Scratch Fever and seeing them with and without the speed up to see the comparison.
3% seems almost slow enough to not affect anything much, but Iâm not sure. Iâm leaning more to voting yes.
3% seems like itâll be minor change yet good but I would love to see a side by side comparison of the same actions (like running, air dashing and a combo now vs sped up) since I am not in Cali and canât WNF to try myself :[
Yes! Speed increase sounds cool. Love that you polled for it too.
I voted no because I would like to see how the other changes will affect things in a tournament environment before any kind of speed change is implemented. A speed increase may seem like a good idea now, but we have no idea if a speed increase may or may not be a detriment in how the game is played in the long run.
How will this affect Peacock players? Will this make it harder for them to deal with rushdowns?
Yeah i also think a comparison vid would be nice, just to get an idea side by side. Not sure how noticeable 3% would be on video by itself.
I like Skullgirls as it is now, but there have been numerous times when I have said âI wish the game was fasterâ so I say yes.
Oh my god, Mike, you just donât know how much I LOVE you right now. WE NEED TO GO FASTER PEOPLE!
PEOPLE NEED TO START LOVING THE SPEEEEEEEEEED.
Seriously Mike, if I could Iâd buy you a game of your choice on steam right fucking now, BUT I HAVE NO CREDIT CARD ;_;.
I want to take a stab at it first before I say anything. Initially, though, I donât like the idea because I think itâs fast enough as it is.
Will this affect online in anyway? How about the 360 version? I honestly donât mind the speed now, mix ups are already hard enough to block anyway lol
edit: Maybe this should be front paged?
its hard to say without trying it, but fuck it go for it
Except youâre putting the poll on SRK, which is full of ADHD morons who are ALWAYS going to vote overwhelmingly for anything that would make a game more in favor of any feature that:
- is [S]scrubby[/S] âuser-friendlyâ
-speed-oriented
-encourages 3-minute long combos and safe rushdown but discourages zoning or gameplay that requires patience, mindgames, or psychology
Iâm sure if you put the tweaking of IPS up to vote here, it would get shot down like a brown-skinned liberal on a Dick Cheney hunting trip, but thatâs something the game badly needs no matter how much the scrubs like their combo exhibitions.
