Partitioning Versus Buffering

^ Nice. I’ll give it a try.

to clarify i meant hitting the button to execute it but im sure you knew that! not when the tackle recovers :X

Partitioning help

Hi. I’m practicing with Urien, and I’m getting better at buffering, but partitioning is a little iffy for me right now. It seems to be really inconsistent for me, and I’m not sure if my charge times are correct. Or maybe I’m not quick enough in my charge during a dash after charging down for a second.

I was just wondering if you guys have a certain method or timing to partitioning that helps in making sure you get the proper charge and not overcharge or undercharge. Or perhaps if there’s also a certain method you guys have as far as dashing, then quickly holding the stick down after the dash? Thx.

As you play the game more and more, you will partition more easily and your timing will become very good! When I first started off partitioning I used to practice this way:

1.Jab Heabutt,cr.jab, dash(charge down during dash),jab headbutt,cr.jab, dash, jab headbutt… you get the idea. Practicing this makes a hella difference because it introduces you to basic partitioning and will lead you to more complex partitions

After doing a knee drop(any strength) immediately charge down for its amimation, dash(charge down while dashing),knee drop, dash,… etc. Also note you don’t always have to repeat the same move. You can go:

Knee drop,dash,headbutt,cr.jab,dash,knee drop.

Yyour applying the same principles but just doing different moves.

Well ,when partitioning, hit the charge as soon as possible during the dash. Try not to start the charge too late during a dash. It is possible to overcharge(only when partitioning) or undercharge a move. Remember to hold charge as soon as Urien enters the dash animation. Practice makes perfect.

Basically if you can get those basic partitioning tips down, it would help you immensely. Once you get really into Urien, you’ll be partitioning like nobody’s business, lol. It seems so easier after practice. You even plan it, because when you do a move, I always charge during the move(as if i’m gonna partition). If I cant partition(not because of my skill, but because of the situation) thats fine. But if I can it opens up a whole new opportunity, maybe even to get in an unblockable if the requirements are met. For example:

I throw a character close to the corner. I charge for the upcoming partition during the throw, the opponent quick stands, I dash over to the opponent(charge during dash) St.Strong xx Forward tackle xx Aegis , the opponent is now in the corner and I can follow this up for an unblockable.

Hey, thx Ramza. The one piece of advice you gave me that’s definitely working right now is the knee drop and then charge while Urien is doing the knee drop, dash, then headbutt. That one in particular is coming out everytime. :wgrin: The crouching jab I’ve gotten most of the time, but still needs some fine tuning.

The one thing I’ve noticed is that I find partitioning somewhat more difficult going from right to left as opposed to going from left to right, but hey, I just got my joystick last Tuesday, so when I get accustomed to handling my stick, I should be able to do well going both ways.

Thx for the help Ramza. Hope you don’t mind any more questions from me in the near future.

Great! Just keep practicing those, the technique will come in real handy! Don’t worry about that, once you get used to your stick you will have no trouble at all. Of course I don’t mind questions, ask as many as you like. As a matter of fact, I just sent True_Tech a PM asking for help, and he sent one back right away and helped me out. So your not the only one dude! :wonder:

Ya Ramza those are some usful tips:tup:

Thank you!

Hey

Hey, can you guys help me out? (Yeah, again.).

One thing that’s giving me a hard time, especially if I catch someone with a series of tackles in the corner, is being able to hit that last tackle xx LP Aegis.

Or even if it’s a normal corner situation, and I use c. LK, MK tackle, xx LP Aegis. Should I be hitting LK, THEN f + mk, and double qcf for LP Aegis?

See, it’s the square gate with my joystick that I’m having a hard time with that, and I haven’t been able to figure out if there’s a technique I should use.

Also, for Urien’s j. HK, s. MP, LK tackle, xx LP Aegis. I’ve gotten it sometimes, charging in the air during the j. HK, but after s. MP while keeping the joystick neutral, do O then simply hit f + LK for the tackle? I’m tryin to pay attention to it and see how I’m doing it, if I’m even doing it correctly.

No. Just buffer it into the Aegis. For example, for the c.LK situation, do this:

db.lk>>tackle(but do a Hadoken motion,so you go from db.LK all the way around in a Hadoken motion to toward for the tackle, the same as buffering Hadoken to Shinkuu Hadoken), then all you gotta do is one more QCF+P for the Aegis to come out. Its like you do db.LK>tackle(but you do a HCF motion from db to toward+Kick>Aegis

Not quite the way to do it. The way you do it is:

Charge back during the j.HK, then also charge back during the s.MP, then forward+Kick for tackle. This way is much easier and gives you more charge time

I hope this helps you

Hello! I’m new and seeking info on how to play with urien!

what is charge/buffer over-lapping???

when you cross-jump/VKD your opponnent how do you mantain charge?

i have problems with make the 2nd tackle…need help please.

dude hold the charge for the first tackle as long as possible and to remember to go to db again before you hit kick to store extra charge.
Even when practising if the second tackle whiffs thts better then a standin mk or lk atleast you get timings down o and remember to hit the first tackle as soon as possible after the cr hp animation finishs it will become naturual to in all due time hope that helps

great post

Learning Urien and I have a few questions:

  1. To cancel cr.FP into LP Sphere xx Aegis, is there certain timing for it? I keep trying to use cr.FP into QCF LP (Sphere) > QCF LP but Aegis just doesn’t want to come out…

  2. While doing TTH, and I want to cancel the second tackle into Aegis, do you buffer the first QCF motion during the tackle or quickly do both QCFs afterwards? I’m having a very hard time doing either.

  3. For j.FP (charge) > st.MP > EX Headbutt, do you quickly press down during the MP for extra charge or do you just land > st.MP > up+EX?

  1. Certain timing. It’s hard to explain but the way I get it out right is

1…2.3 Where 1 is cr.fp, 2 is jab fireball, 3 is fierce aegis. This is tricky because unlike other fireball characters, Urien can actually hold onto his fireball, so the timing isn’t like just doing fireball xx shippu or something like that

  1. Both versions are used, I personally prefer the buffer. It’s just preference.

  2. When you have enough charge you don’t need to press down again, (charge)(let go) s.mp up+pp. Just do it kinda fast.

You have enough time to do two QCFs after the second tackle, but buffering the first QCF is easier, yeah. And I kinda hear you on this, I still can’t really get the second tackle into Aegis down 100%. Then again I usually don’t go for the corner unblockable since everyone here knows how to escape them, but that’s for another thread I guess.

The latter. You SHOULD have enough time during the j.HP to have a full charge, then just do neutral MP->EX Headbutt.

I’m having alot of trouble performing charge buffering combos with Urien.

For example :c.fierce, mk tackle, Mk Tackle (or EX tackle).

Is it possible that I’m doing the commands to fast? Or is there no such thing as too fast with these juggles?

The first tackle from the cr. hp should come out as early as possible. I start to do the motion for buffering the tackle right after the ‘grunting’ sound that the opponent makes. Then you should do the next tackle as soon as possible (not right after, you might end up with a f+mk or a mk). It’s mainly about practice, after some practice you’ll find a “sweet spot” for when to do the 2nd tackle.
So overall, its db, elbow, wait for the grunt, (f,db as fast as possible right after the grunt) then do the next tackle.

Since you want to do the 1st tackle of TTH as early as possible, it’s helpful to know exactly when Urien recovers from c.hp. He recovers when the bottom of his knee touches the ground. To hone in on the timing, you can practice the following: Do c.hp, hk~mk~lk tackle (piano all three kicks starting from the hk end). What happens is that if your timing is right, hk tackle connects. If you are too early, mk or lk tackle connect, which will be obvious because they look different from the hk version. If you are late, hk tackle whiffs and you drop the combo. By performing this exercise, you can get a good feel for when you should be tackling in the tackle tackle headbutt combo.

Best of luck.
