Paradise Arcade Shop, LED Joysticks, Buttons, Mods and more

Glad to see this finally happen  lol. Oh, the dark arts of corruption.

Could you make them for the hori scv top panel too? lol

I do have another question. I had done the ‘ultimate’ jfl mod (wrapping electrical tape around the actuator) and I love the short throw but I noticed the tape leaving a black sticky residue.
I’d really like to upgrade to your actuator but I have no clue what size to get. Any guidance?
FYI, I’m using the Paradise silent jlf zippy mod and was having issues hitting corners till I did the tape mod so I’d really need the actuator to resolve that issue while slightly reducing throw range (I’m guessing +.5mm above what it would take to resolve the corner issue).

Hoping to place the order tomorrow

@ChaoticMonk - If you can swing it, get a .5mm and 1mm oversized. I prefer the .5mm with Cherry and 1mm with Omron/Zippy. They don’t cost much.

Actuators won’t do anything for throw (unless you get the “Gate Hater” in which case it makes the distance between the actuator and the gate wider and makes the throw longer) but I think what you are really concerned about is the engagement of the switches. Gates can change throw and actuators will typically only change switch engagement. Hope this helps. Most of these types of mods are personal preference and the best way to find what is right for you is to try a few different things. Good luck.

@ChaoticMonk It seems like every time I reply to you it’s to agree with @iNENDOi!

I use a 1mm actuator on my stick with the silent Omrons - I usually use a .5mm actuator on a standard JLF, but found that I needed to go up a step to hit the diagonals consistently on the silent switches. But, as suggested, best to get a few and try them out.

Thanks guys, I’ll try the 1mm and see how that goes.
And yes, I meant switch engagement when I said throw

Ugh…shipping comes out more than a couple actuators. Guess I need to find more stuff to buy lol

I hope everyone is ready for Christmas! I’m not! I’ve been too busy taking care of you! It’s a gorgeous, sunny, 80 degree, day here in Paradise and i’m in a good mood. So, don’t tell Bryan (ie armi0024) i’m throwing a sale! Enter the code 5Off just as you see it and you can get 5% off any Kaimana item. I just added 2 more kits that are already discounted 5%! I’ve added 2 - 11 button kits, one with an RGB joystick and one without.

That shouldn’t be hard. Ha.

Why not buy some springs to compliment your actuators? That and you could do what I sometimes do and buy the LS-32 Silent Zippy set and dremel the levers for short levers to use in a JLF or LS-56.

Dude. Wtf? Is that what I need to do to make my LS-56 silent? Damn.

You gain actuation distance due to the zippy switches having a lower activation point. So your LS-56 won’t be as quick unless you mod the zippy switches, which is manageable, but I’ve only done so with small pieces of paper. Either way if you don’t mind a slightly slower stick without the mod then it’s actually quite nice with a 3lbf spring and stock gate.

I personally prefer 4 lbf with no throw now, but I am experimenting with different switches, gates, and spring tensions.

Wow, I couldn’t do 4 lb, even with a 20 gram switch. I find that too much extra tension on the 56 tends to make the pivot uncomfortable to play on.

Man, I can’t wait for that Hayabusa. That’s my Xmas present this year.

We have had a huge number of requests for 9lb JLF’s, we are getting them but I never thought those would sell out…

And I can’t even fathom what Hulks are playing on those, lol.

Well i guess since you are travelling minimum distance with the no throw, the 4 lbf almost has a snappy-ish feel. I don’t really know how to describe it, but i like it myself. I tried 4 lbf on a JLF and the longer throw made a much bigger difference, where it almost felt fatiguing to play on. Its weird but I don’t get that feeling when using 4 lbf and no throw on a 56.

Also @Armi i got the package… and I’m a tad confused on how to set up the strips… i probably should cut the lengths but I haven’t gotten much time to look at them. Have you gotten a chance to tinker with them yet?

Susan,

I got my order in safely the other day… (Not the shaft cover — I understand that’s coming later.)

I’m happy with the way the Zippyy’s turned out. They really do feel like the LS-32!

They initially felt like they had higher tension than the stock LS-32 but that could have just been cold affecting the spring components of the joysticks. Once I broke them in they felt about the same as the Seimitsu product. The Zippyy spring is practically identical to the LS-32 spring with the exception that it’s metal-stock silver and not coated black like the LS-32 spring.

Here is something people should hear about the Zippyy… The clearance around the mounting area is BETTER than the LS-32-01. The LS-32-01 PCB gets in the way of installing the joystick onto the faceplate and must be removed before screwing onto the mount area. You can install the Zippyy into universal mount areas (after replacing the stock flat mounting plate with the LS-32’s SS Mounting Plate) with no problem. You might have to bend one of the directional progs a bit to put the screws in but that’s the extent of the obstruction I encountered.

The rest of the Zippyy is pretty much the same as the LS-32 down to the lousy C-clip covering the actuator which I threw out (and replaced with a 3/8" E-ring as soon I could) and a secondary restrictor gate that fits the same way as the LS-32’s.

The Zippyy’s Flat Mounting Plate is a virtual clone of the Seimitsu RE: Flat Mounting Plate. The only significant difference I saw was the screw head holders in the Seimitsu RE: Plate are deeper… No question the Seimitsu and Zippyy Plates are interchangeable.

The new two-toned red/blue balltop handle looks really nice on the joystick I installed it on…
Glad that I ended up picking that balltop. Goes well with the “dark knight” theme on my revamped joystick!

Might post a pic of that joystick later on… That joystick was something I had in mind for a while now and has become my favorite Mad Catz TE stick after the new parts (R-B balltop handle, red shaft LS-40-01 I also bought from PAS) were installed.

Oh, and the chocolates are gone already.

I had midnight munchies after installing the Zippies!

i tried 9lbf then i d

i did this without dremeling/cutting/etc. but you’d need to have the right things. i keep saying this, but if for some reason you get a hold of short-levered omron microswitches, those short levers are compatible with the “silent” zippys. now a good source of these short levered omrons would be, sadly, neogeo aes joysticks, which i know not many have, nor wanna alter.

if you’re interested, here’s my result, granted the video doesnt really make it “silent” probably due to how i was holding it and the short levers were shaking around, making more noise, but trust me its a lot quieter in real life.

Do they have a nicer deadzone? I really hate the “wiggle room” that the LS-32s offer and your post made me curious to try the Zippyy sticks.

They’re virtually the same joystick as the LS-32… The parts are interchangeable!
I did not feel any difference from the LS-32 once the sticks settled in and warmed up.
(Yeah, they were cold and it felt like the they had higher tension springs for a while!)
The only notable difference is the name “Zippyy” printed on the side of the joystick’s body and the “Zippyy” stamped on the dustwasher.

If you already don’t like the LS-32 or have issues with it, the Zippyy won’t be better.

I just got them because A) I wanted to equip at least two joysticks with LS-32 type joysticks; and B) these are a lot cheaper than the brand name!

Certain case restrictions aside (they won’t fit into Round 1 or Round 2 Mad Catz TE cases without making a big hole in the inside of the USB cable compartment to accommodate harness adapters) AND the fact that you have to figure out how to string out converter harnesses to use these joysticks in place of five-prong PCB levers, they’re actually ***very ***good value for the money.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! Bryan and Susan
