Let that thing dry well man. If it’s anything like my case it’ll take a few days to harden. I’m having paint rub off where my right wrists lays on it cuz I didn’t put enough layers or wait long enough (Waited 2 days even). Apparently though it gets dry to the touch quickly, if it gets wet it can rub off.
If you have the patience. I say give it 5-7 days. I know it’s rough, but it’s better than perhaps having to repaint it. Now that I have the art on it, not looking foward to the pain of spraying another layer.
You putting clear on there I hope? Having the clear get scratched and rubbed off is better than the paint. Let my mistakes be your boon!
Yea it has alike 5-6 clear “gloss” coats on there. The finish product is in the custom stick thread btw.
But yea I let it sit for about 2 days then I got too excited and installed the button/stick/axisdapter.
I’m pretty proud of my work for it being my first time. Next time will be a custom box!
Very nice! Welcome to the krylon club! 15 coats? damn thats a lot, my buttons for home and turbo were tight from too many coats… if i used 15 i don’t think they would fit.
I just did two coats on the turbo panel, 15 on the case. The can’s pretty much empty, lol. My buttons had trouble, so I wrapped some sandpaper around a pencil and practiced what I learned in Sex ed.
Krylon triple thick glaze or whatever. Wait until I can get pictures of the one I painted black, that shit looks so good on a satin finish that it’s a fucking piano black finish on a madkatz.
I’ve painted countless plastic pieces in my automotive background for a good few years now and I must say that you obviously didn’t spray close enough or didn’t spray enough for you doing "four coats"
While it isn’t a dye, it clearly states what it is on the can and the commercials for it also reinforce that the paint has a greater adhesion to plastics.
I love Krylon.
lol
Guts are fairly easy to take out, only 12 screws IIRC. Everything lifts out as a huge spaghetti mess but goes back in fairly easily. Just as long as you remember how everything is laid out you shouldn’t have a problem putting it all back in.
You talking about mine? Well I kind of lied about the coats, probably closer to 10 after I resanded the thing after the drip. I still have some in the can tho.
How can you tell it wasn’t close enough? Any closer and I feared getting more drips. You say you’ve worked with this stuff alot. How long should I wait to play on this thing? I have some paint “wearing down” where my wrists rests on the buttons right on the corner. I gave it nearly 3 days to dry really, it says chip resistent in 7 days not dries in 7 days lol… I might have to respray it. Which is annoying since I already have the art on there. Not looking forward to that.
When I do respray it, what tips do you have on procedure? Should sand the entire thing down to the bone, or just enough to get an even coat on all the chipped areas? Wouldn’t mind it a bit shinier, but most importantly… strong and reliable.
I need a bit of advice. I didn’t wait long enough or something, and while setting my wrist on my case it peeled all the red up around the top rim. I can see the white. I’m not really sure what to do.
Should I just the sand front down (where the problems are) tape the rest up except for other problem areas and paint away?
edit: I guess I could try peeling the front off and just redoing it. Considering how easy it peeled off before.
It’s because, like me, you played on the thing before it was ready. The same thing happened to my case.
Now after a week it was so dry I could rub it with a wet rag and it ain’t coming off.
Just got too hasty. I’m going to wait for it to get a bit warmer up where I’m at then resand it down and do it proper as in the guide. This is why I would have gone with vinyl dye, but it’s too late now.
Just mask up the stick, sand everything down pretty good (since you got clear on it), and re do the stuff. I might even find some Krylon primer. I’ll tell you how it goes.
