Pad or stick?

So you stay away from Charge characters, eh?

My down key got me fraustrated when I was practicing Charlie’s/Chun’s aerial supers. I use a pad. The Gouki AE pad. Still trying to get used to it. I had a T5 Hori, but I sold it after I got the pad. I feel as if the pad is a more amiable controller than a stick. Just remember to set up your buttons before you start playing with a pad.

No, it’s not that bad. Charge f,b works nicely, and sometimes I miss to execute d,u nicely, but it’s really not that bad. 360 is the tough stuff.

I second this. That d-pad is amazing.

But overall, stick is better. I haven’t even used it long, and I definitely find it better, especially in games like Garou. But d-pad isn’t too terrible, and some games I actually find myself preferring it.

I have no problem doing 360s on a keyboard, but doing them from db is awkward. Have to take my hand off all the directional keys then quickly do hcf or hcb, u+p. Its a lot easier in more forgiving games.

Stick motherfucker

couldnt agree more

In this topic: a bunch of people who never used a Saturn pad in their life.

wiimote

Is it anything like those SF Anniversary controllers? Those d-pads were garbage. I know someone that loves it though. I always preferred how Sony designed it’s d-pad.

Right now, I use Dual Shock for PSX/PS2/PC fighters. But since I have 360 and not PS3, I’m using the Hori EX2. I’ll be upgrading to the SF4 stick when it comes out but I’m also curious about the SF4 pad coming out. Depending on if I get any better executing dps and qcfx2’s on stick(I’ve been told it’s because of my stick having square gate), I won’t be going back to pad for serious play.

a lot of people i know love the old saturn pad.

but back when i used pad, i liked the ps1 digital pad (the one without the analog sticks) the best. the pad didn’t get worn down and mushy as much as other pads and it seemed more consistent for execution.

of course like i and many other people have said before:
if you play fighting games seriously. get a good stick! it’s so worth it.
but the learning curve is a bitch. (i recommend learning it on a new game to ease the process)

ps. ps3 hori fighting stick is NOT a good stick. only good for modding.

screw pads and sticks

edit: actually fuck the power glove

racing wheels are top tier for fighting games

Is that the Logitech controllers with the “loose” d-pad? I love that one. It clicks and there’s space around it to move in, feels good. Almost like a d-pad stuck unto a very short joystick or something.

The Classic controller on the Wii has a pretty nice d-pad too.

 I’d love to see that! Actually, I’d love to see someone play a fighting game with a DDR mat!

I grew up in the arcades, but I played more at home as time went on so I got more used to the SNES controller than anything else. I have a bit of a hard time playing on the PS2 D-pad, but I modded my PSP D-pad and I actually am starting to prefer that, strangely enough. O_o

I still got my saturn plus 4 S-Type controllers

I heard from credible source, that racing wheels are the best for Zangief’s 360 motions…

This one??

God, it gave me terrible blisters.

its game dependent. for example if you play marvel your going to probably wanna use a stick. but if you are playing something like ST pad would be fine. although stick is like always better lol

personal preference. end of story

how about you’re wrong

ST can be pretty rough on pad with shotos (due to the stupid DP window) but it’s still totally doable. I don’t think any gaming device will make you a better player, but stick is the easiest to get proficient with and makes everything much more natural. I still play Guilty Gear #R online with a pad (So it doesn’t mess with my AC muscle memory … and I played with pad during #R) and I still feel very comfortable with either, but I like Stick better because it just feels right and it’s less fatiguing.

Keyboards always impressed me. If anything can bemore exact then stick it’d be keyboard, though it’s a lot less intuitive.

Anyways, I think the reason the reason almost all the best players play on stick is less because of how much better stick is (though they’re great) and more to do with the best players playing at arcades (another big point toward learning stick)
