Del Toro + Elba combo is very promising. I hope the only similarities to Eva are monsters vs mecha, cause those were the only good parts of Eva.
No, they just used the cliche “BRAAAM” that everyone’s been using ever since Inception (and even before).
the Inception boom is pretty much a cliche of every action trailer these days
Anyone else notice how much “Gypsy Danger” resembles Air Man?
I’m a little let down that it seems they are controlling the giant robos remotely (although it makes the most logical sense), it’s kind of hard to be concerned with the pilots’ well-being when they are remoting in from a bunker far away from the battlefield.
I thought the same thing too lol. Especially the last part of the trailer where the Jaeger was throwing that punch and had steam coming out of its elbows.
BIG O! IT’S SHOWTIME!
Everyone keeps mentioning GLaDOS.
Why?
That reminds me, I should probably watch a playthru of Portal 1.

This is why…
Two animes I thought of when I saw this trailer:
This
and this:

My boy Jax Teller controlling a giant robot fighting fucking giant monsters and Idris Elba my man crush in 1 movie!?
IM SO EXCITED
Jax Teller controlling an eva unit? That is awesome. Seriously, i must watch them heat the shite out of cloverfields
Yeah I meant that one. I wasn’t sure what term to use.
TALKING ABOUT BIG O
They need to have a “Jaeger”(such a badass name for the mechs in this film, glad they chose it) with that Big O punch technology

Well he did have steam out the elbows.
Biiiiig o!
Jaegger? Why do giant robos have to have german names all the time?
The Germans in WW2 were engineering some pornographic shit if you are into “hyper industrial style” machines like tanks/planes/whatever needed bolts to keep it together, so they get a lot of love from creators when they design like-minded things.
There’s probably a better way to describe it than “hyper industrial style” but I’m at a loss right now.
Go go Pacific Rim Rangers!

I believe the style is called “diesel punk” which takes inspiration from 1920’s German Expressionist Films and 1930’s pulp.
And so the spoof trailers continue.
Evangelion

And for any old school super robot fans.
Mazinger Z

Tosho Daimos

The last one is pretty fitting since the titular robot in Daimos was controlled in a similar manner to the ones in Pacific Rim.
Now, all that’s missing is a G Gundam one where we see a Jaeger giving a kaiju a punch with my love, my anger and all of my sorrow (because we all know that the Kaiju are invading… WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI!!!)!
