The other thing that gets me is how well this movie ties Cloverfield together with a Godzilla movie…it could all co-exist in a single universe…hell the flying Kaiju LOOKED like the Cloverfield monster (who ironically had the baby, which the Cloverfield monster is considered)

First true-summer blockbuster movie imo. At first, I tried to comprehend the reasoning on why giant robots instead of bombs but then I turned off logic thinking and the movie shined. Will watch again.

It would also allow for a drastically different looking set of Kaiju.
If this were to be a franchise this is how I would want the sequels to go.
PR2 - Cyber Kaiju controlled via neural handshake. Dormant Kaiju, including level 5’s and above awaken and attempt to re-open the rift.
PR3 - Evil Jaegers. Combing Jaegers, two or three per combo at most. Chow is leading them.
PR4 - Space aliens that want to take over the earth.
PR5 - The rift dwellers are back, and stronger.
Breach on the moon, monsters threaten to blow that shit up…space fights…LOL
Well now that the scientist drifted with the Kaiju, will could see them breach every Government HQ, even where they build the Jaegers.That would be the most logical thing to do, but space fights does sound awesome!
Man, this movie has opened up a rift of possibilities for where it can go. Movies, TV shows, comics, video games, TOYS. Hopefully this movie makes it’s money back and then some.

That being said, this film was pretty sick.
Stopping the funding of the Jeagar program to instead fund the wall is simply them giving up. They’re just doing it in a way that leaves people false hope and allows the higher ups time to dig into bunkers or flee to Elysium or something. Honestly giant monsters are great for destroying cities but suck at getting 100% kill on living creatures. Too many places humans can hide and breed that they can’t reach. Perhaps that was their plan. Give up the coastal cities and start moving people into underground safe zones.
OK probably not but even that would be s cool premise for a movie or something.
I like it, because you KNOW that’s how things would go down if some sort of global catastrophe happened. Hell, it happens all the time on a smaller scale, every time the shit hits the fan, the upper class folks pack up and leave while the lower class gets screwed.
I’m actually excited to see Elysium because of this premise.

Technically we did get the “For my family” line but yeah, someone needs to send Del Toro the G Gundam collection so in the sequel he can have one character pull off either a Domon speech or hope beyond hope someone (probably a bad guy) pull a Master Asia and beating a Kaiju or Jaeger.
