So I finally got around to seeing it. Partway through the movie I had to consciously tell myself I needed to turn off my brain more. After that point I enjoyed it even more. My only gripes are
[details=Spoiler]The Red Typhoon and Cherno Alpha got wasted way too quickly. It’d have been nice If they’d managed to take out at least one Kaiju. Also could the Russian team possible be any more stereotypically Russian
Linking two people with no history together, and don’t even have the same mother tongue seems like it should be a problem. I know they put the part where main character knows Japanese in there but still it doesn’t really make sense to me.
I feel like some of the most interesting stories in the world would have actually been from earlier time periods than when they’re down to just 4 Jaegers. The early parts of the war, and the decline where they started losing more Jaegaers would have been nice to see in more detail. [/details]
I did kind of come to like how absolutely unsubtle this movie is with everything. Everything is pretty much given to you at face value. In other movies that aren’t so self aware the probably would have detracted from the end product. Here it helps facilitate more monster punching.

I finally saw it - 3D IMAX…if there was a movie to push 4k 3D, this is it…the eye candy was soooo good…all I could think of was how I was going to get this experience at home.
Sadly I can’t.
I actually had no fucks given about the plot or any holes, nitpicking is super minor, half the stuff mentioned on here feels more like people ‘searching’ for an issue than their really being an issue. All in all, my only issues with the movie…
Acting was ‘meh’, but that didn’t concern or affect me…
Robots were beaten too easily - the Russian one had ‘held the wall’ for like 6 years, but get pieced out like that…
The EMP would have taken out the hero jaeger…
The laws of physics were given their resignation papers, and I was fine with it…
The category 5 should have been Godzilla…

I think the reason the 2 ‘nonmajor’ jaegers got scrubbed out so quickly is because they were fighting the 2 biggest kaiju to date… They weren’t ready. Nick has the right reaction to this movie, all caps one sentence :perfect:.
The best part of the movie was the way the kaiju really seemed threatening and the damage they were doing to the jeagers was cringeworthy even though they were giant robots. The atmosphere of the battles are amazing.
They were the two biggest to date yes, but that isn’t why they lost, they lost because it was 2 at once, and the Kaiju had been ‘evolving’ so to speak at the time. I’ve got no issue with them getting peace’d, I just wish they would have gotten more shine. Especially since they were well designed. Come on fam…a ninja robot? With Goro arms, that does a kick flip on a kaiju? I need MOAR of that shit in my system.

I agree with wanting more lol. They were arguably the 2 coolest jaegers, mostly because of their uniqueness compared to Gipsy and Eureka. I just meant it was understandable.
All I know is that PacRim mythos has to grow somehow lol. On going comics or a cartoon, even CG like the latest GL would be suitable imo, are probably the way to go in not a sequel.
[details=Spoiler]The only sequel I would want is the aliens opening up a new breach. They did it once, on Earth, and bunch of times elsewhere. Why wouldn’t they try again? They probably know the humans are out of Jeagers, due to Charlie’s drift.

I could see human’s getting comfy and returning to their old ways of $ rules all. They’ll recreate the rift in order to exploit the resources on the other side, but will unleash something far worse. Or we could just conquer and kick the shit out of the aliens.

Fuck that, the sequel ideas they talked about were way better.
Cyborg Kaiju(Mecha-Otachi maybe?) and evil Jaegers.
They alluded to Charlie’s character having control over Kaiju due to hive-mind mentality.
He’ll they could use the “Kaiju lying dormant hidden from the radars awakening once again” plot.
Keep it simple, fast forward 20 years, new breaches open up. Technology allows for more hi-tech jaegers to be built. Shit gets crazy. Last fight is a category 6 which requires 5 small jaegers to form into one.

If the sequel has Jaegers combining Voltron style to beat a Kaijuu, I think I’d be done with movies cuz NOTHING will top that shit. The pinnacle has been reached.
Are they just from outerspace or are they interdimensional? If they are space aliens, that be cool. As long as there is a Jeager that is Deathscythe. If they are interdimensional, they are going to need a breach. Doesn’t need to be underwater, could be on the fuckin moon, but a breach. imo. I could be over thinking a little but… :shrug:

Crap I don’t know a single thing about Voltron, or much at all from other animes. But I kinda wished that Pacific Rim did something with the Yaegars that vaguely referenced Metal Gear, like railguns or lasers/hydrocutter. Kojima is a fan of the film and he would’ve came in his pants.
Hehehe that’s right. His sacrifice in Prometheus was alot more emotional to me because of how it was a last minute decision and everyone decided to crash with him. ;_;

Hmm… they had to activate the Ion defense thing while piloting the ship for the result they wanted, which was to destroy the Alien ship.
But the biggest reason why is because we would lose out on that epic moment.
