A number of GG players in our scene informed me that they don’t have a paypal account to pre-register for the tournament.
What would you recommend in this case?
Note to self: I gotta pre-register too.

How many tv’s are goin to be there? I know im bringing mines but do we have enough?
Oh shit Return of the Dragon(Shirt)???
They coul show up and pay the five dollars at the door. Or you could talk to all of them and collect their information and money and try and get it to Axel or I before the 23rd. Just make sure you have everything in order and all of the required info, that they give you the correct amount. That could get messy though if any money gets lost or info gets mixed up. Only do it if you feel comfortable with it.
23rd is the end of pre-registration by the way.
I posted up on DL that I’d take money and pre-reg local GG players on my PayPal so you might see a few coming of them from me over the next few days. So you’ll know when you see them it’s legit . I haven’t had my identity stolen or anything. For the GG’ers I don’t personally know, you’re gonna have to eat the $5 at the door fee or actually get yourself a PayPal account.
Just want to say sorry for not really being on the ball lately, especially with only 3 weeks left. Just caught up in finals and final papers.
Here’s a quick list of things that still need to get done in the next three weeks. I’ll try to get on them after Friday. Anyone who wants to work on them is welcome to to.
Equipment Check- Making sure we have all the equipment we need.
Contact local papers, The Stranger and even news stations.
Schedule a meeting with all tournament runners and go over running the tournaments.
Last minute advertising ideas?
I was figuring I’d wear my STHD shirt, but I suppose I could always drop by Hot Topic and see if they have anything that looks dragonish before I go up.
StiltMonster, does your leave from work mean that the STHD code is done? Btw, what dates are you going to be here? You should come by the local game dev get together.
^ +1 for KOF 98 UM casuals!

ROFLMAO!
I would love to parry McCain.
Okay, the tournament is right around the corner.
With only two weeks left, there needs to be a meeting between all the tournament runners, and anyone helping, to figure out exactly how the tournaments are going to be run and go over the plan for the day.
Everyone is welcome to come to the meeting, and it would be great if people could volunteer to help out at the tournament with small stuff like set-up and registeration. Mechanica, Deezo, XTG, Sorias, Zigmover, JWO, and Axel, if you could post up a good time to meet and talk about this, we really need to figure out how you want to run the tourneys. You are the tournament runners so you need to decide how you want to run them, and you will be the authorities that people will come to to ask questions for your tournaments. They will be your rules. It really important that you try to make it to decide on this stuff.
Post up a time that is good for you. I put mine at the bottom.
Zach’s is an obvious and convient location, but if we decide on that time, I want to maybe meet up at UW or someplace convient a few hours before to figure out the really important stuff. Having a meeting while games are going on is tough, and this stuff can’t wait, especially not a week before.
Here’s a list of things that need to get decided on. Sorry it is so freaking long, but if you could read it, and add to it if you see anything missing, then that would be great.
Running Tournaments. Review of how to seed players, run brackets, do buys, and disqualify people. Setting a standard time before dq’s would be good.
Registration times. We should have a number of registration times throughout the day, so that people playing Marvel or 3S don’t have to get there at 12:00 to sign up, and wait till 6:00 or 7:00 to play.
Cut off times. Once a tournament starts, how long will the main runners let people register until they close it off? This should be the same for all games (ideally) so no one registers 30 minutes late for Tekken, and then can’t do the same for ST.
Working the Registration table. It would be great if some people could donate 45 minutes or so of their time during the day to work the table during registration times, to help the event run smoothly.
Money handling. A small, set number of people need to be allowed to handle money and no one else. This is so we don’t get ten random people taking entry fees, and then something goes missing or someones name doesn’t get put down, and then we don’t know who to talk to. It’s not a matter of trust. It’s a matter of organization.
Security. I would like to have the people running the tournaments in charge of specific stations that they are responsible for watching. There will be only one door in and out of the tournament, and the registration table will be in front of it, so we should see anyone leaving with something. This is important to talk about and figure out and other ideas are welcome.
Policy on violence. I don’t think we will have a problem, but having a clear policy of what we consider violence or harrasment and how we handle it will make it easier to deal with it if it comes up.
Money Match policy. Money matches will be going on. It is sort of out of our juristiction to do anything about money matches. It is between the players and we aren’t a casino. But if a problem does come up, it might be good to have a plan on what we do if it does somehow involve us.
Set-up. We need to figure out who is helping. It starts at 12:00 and first tournament is at 1:00.
Labeling Equipment and Entry Fees. We should set up a system for labeling people’s equipment and making sure that entry fees for certain games go to that games pot. This could be very simple, but good to talk about it anyway.
Switching consoles and storing equipment. There is a very safe place to put all the equipment when it is not being used, but we need to have a system to make sure that nothing goes missing when consoles are being switched between tournies. Randomly carrying stuff out of the room once a tournament is over can’t happen.
Teardown. A system of how to make sure everyone gets there stuff back at the end of the day, and making sure there are at least a few people who will stick around to help reset the room will be really helpful.
So that is just a list of things that I want to discuss and decide on before the tournament. Anyone is welcome to contribute to the list. It won’t take as long to get through as it looks.
Again, everyone is welcome to help with running the tournament on the day of. We will need a lot of hands, especially from people who we know personally and who we can trust/rely on.
Here are the dates I am available.
June 17th- Before 4:00pm
June 18th- all day
June 19th- all day
June 20th- all day - Zach may be having a get together on this day, but I would want to meet before games started. Sometime before 8:00 at UW or someplace convienent.
June 21st- After 1:30pm
June 22nd- Before 1:30 pm
There is no entry fee just to watch correct?
True True.
Very not at liberty to talk about what’s going on with STHD on here.
I met my parents at Sunriver last Friday and came over to Portland on Sunday. I have the rest of the month off, am heading back down to California either on the 29th or the 30th. This weekend (father’s day) and the 18th through the 27th, I’ll have my daughter so arcade and other time will be pretty sparse in there. If PDX people want to have a night-before session at Lloyd Tilt or something before everybody goes up to Seattle on the 28th, I’m down.
I’m sure that’ll happen whether we plan it or not.
If your going, lets talk ball man!
Fuck yeah, gotta trick my friend to drive me there but that shouldn’t be a problem. We should be moved into our new place by then which is reasonably close to UW anyways (18th and Madison). I just finished finals today so I am very free if you down to ball.
Oh hey, was it important to register with a location?
'Cause it seems I didn’t.
Its cool. Its just a nice thing to know where people are coming from and who we are reaching.
